If you want to do more maths then try the online lessons from BBC Bitesize:

https://www.bbc.co.uk/bitesize/tags/z7s22sg/year-2-and-p3-lessons/1

These are also on the Red Button on your telly.

Stretch that brain with these challenges, there are 4 for you this week - answers below.

(you know the rules – no peeking!)

ANSWERS – I hope you didn’t peep

Spelling

You can either practise the spellings onto a piece of paper and have a go putting them into

sentences or you can print the spelling pages out which are at the end of this document.

The zh sound spelt with an s: treasure, television, usual, pleasure

The sh sound spelt with ti: station, patience, position, mention

The ar sound spelt with a: fast, father, path, last

Common Year 2 words: friends, across, really, baby

Have a look at these games and websites:

Don’t forget board games too such as Scrabble, Boggle or Quickword which might be lurking

in the back of a cupboard!

English

Day 1

Watch David Attenborough narrate a butterfly emerging from its cocoon.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qiGus6bmgGU

Then watch footage of a baby snake coming out of an egg without any commentary.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2X4UR7Jm6zU

Have a go at writing your own simple narration for the snake hatching out. A narration is

the talking that is in the background often spoken by presenters such as David

Attenborough or Chris Packham. No speech marks are needed for this, just a continuous

narration.

Attempt to write in the present tense, as it is happening.

You could then play the clip and read out your narration at the same time.

Day 2

Look at the film trailer for James and the Giant Peach.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=J4lIMZXKd0g

How do they encourage you to watch the movie … any movie!

Design a poster for your favourite movie to encourage people to go and watch it.

Day 3

James Henry Trotter and his friends are trying to get to New York. If you have finished the

book, then you will know if they make it or not. Find an image of a building in New York and

have a go at drawing it? Remember that when you are drawing a building it is ok to use a

ruler to get those lines nice and straight. If you are feeling very adventurous you could try

and draw the New York skyline.

Day 4

Complete the word search. If you can’t print this out don’t worry, just have a go at making

your own word search.

Science

We will be comparing plants found in familiar habitats with unfamiliar habitats using different factors such as water, light and temperature.

Do you think a plant could germinate if the sun stopped shining? Jimmy has bought a cactus from Tapps Garden Centre and he thinks he can plant it in his back garden in Baldock. Can you write a leaflet or poster explaining how Jimmy should look after his cactus at home. You will need to explain what his cactus needs to survive and you could also include how it is adapted to live in desert habitats and not in an English back garden. (fold a piece of A5 in half to make a small leaflet.) Big Question

Could an oak tree grow in the desert? If not, why not? Geography How does the geographical satellite image of Baldock differ from that of Kampong Ayer?

If you can get Google maps on your laptop or tablet, have a close look at Baldock and then

Kampong Ayer.

Can you find (on both maps)

A school

A supermarket

A river

A park

A police station

A river

A house

If you zoom in close enough you can see roads and walkways. See if you can find your

house in Baldock or wherever you live and then find a house that you would like to live in, in

Kampong Ayer.

DT

Carry on making your garden in a box. In school this would be a 2-week project. Add some

flowers which you can make with anything but very simply by drawing and cutting them out.

Can you attach them to your garden so that they are 3D? Experiment with different

methods.
