Tuesday – Random Words 1) Choose a book 2) Ask for a number – this gives you a page to turn to. 3) Now ask for another number – this gives you the line. 4) Then ask for a small number – this will select the word. 5) Start timing! You have 15 seconds to write a sentence using the selected word. Try including them in 4 different types of sentences

Handwriting/fine motor skills

Monday – Make some no cook playdough with your adults. (BBC Goodfood recipe) Makes 1 coloured ball Prep 10 minutes You will need 8 tbsp plain flour

2 tbsp table salt

60ml warm water

food colouring

1 tbsp vegetable oil

Method 1. Mix the flour and salt in a large bowl. In a separate bowl mix together the water, a few drops of food colouring and the oil. 2. Pour the coloured water into the flour mix and bring together with a spoon. 3. Dust a work surface with a little flour and turn out the dough. Knead together for a few minutes to form a smooth, pliable dough. If you want a more intense colour you can work in a few extra drops of food colouring. 4. Store in a plastic sandwich bag (squeeze out the air) in the fridge to keep it fresh.

Playdough activities Tuesday – Use both hands the pound the playdough flat. Can you use one hand and then the other? After pounding the playdough flat, squash into a ball, pound it again and make another ball. Break off blobs of playdough and roll them between two hands to make large and small balls. Use both hands to roll out a long piece of playdough. What can you make? Wednesday – Let’s make dinosaur footprints Put the fingers and thumb together in the centre of a blob of playdough. Slowly stretch the fingers and thumb apart. How many footprints can you make? Thursday – Roll the dough into palm sized ball, stick your thumb in the middle and use your handwriting fingers to pinch all around your pot! Can you make little sausages just using your writing fingers? Friday- Can you make these creations?

Monday – We are continuing our learning about Katie Morag. She lives on the Isle of Coll in the Outer Hebrides. These are a collection of islands in Scotland. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kLIn1n6Wtmw is the story of Katie Morag Delivers the Mail. There are some story prompts below. Please listen and discuss what happens in the story. Ask children to talk about what they think of the characters, plot and would they tell someone else to read it? How many stars would they give it? Describe the main character, plot and events. Include your own opinion, using different sentence openers and evidence from the book.

Tuesday – Use the pictures above or draw your own to create a story map of this Katie Morag story. Don’t forget to include verbs and adjectives as you label the map. This is an example to help you.

Thursday – Write a book review about Katie Morag. Do you think she is a good character? Would you like to live on the Isle of Struay?

Friday – Can you match the post to the characters on Showbie? Pretend to be Katie and write an apology letter to one of the characters, explaining what has happened.

You could use words such as; less than, more than, equal to, half of, quarter of, even and odd.

Spellings Daily: Please practise the following spellings every day this week.

PSHCE/ Circle Time Use this time to talk as a family to prefer and reflect. This is a challenging time for all and it’s important to reassure everyone. Talk about what worked well and what you can do to make this week even better! You may wish to ask and answer some of these questions:

Katie Morag lives on an island. What is an island? Discuss questions they would like to know about the island. By now you have read at least 2 books in the Katie Morag series. Watch https://www.bbc.co.uk/bitesize/clips/zxfr87h . Describe the physical and human features of the Outer Hebrides. Can you draw a double circle map to compare Binfield and the Out Hebrides? Things that are the same are linked and the things that are different are not.

Science / Geography

We are continuing out topic of islands in our science topic this term. What is an island? What are the four countries of the UK? Explain that the United Kingdom of Great Britain and NI includes the island of Great Britain and the north eastern part of the island of Ireland (Northern Ireland) and many smaller islands. Using the map on the Lesson Presentation or using Google Maps, locate some of the main British islands such as Britain, Anglesey, Isle of Wight, Channel Islands, Skye, Orkney, Shetland, Isle of Man. How could we describe islands? How is an island different from the mainland? How do people get to an island?
