Outline of the yearTerm 1 and 2: On this day (History based topic); The Elves

and The Shoemaker, Mr. Grumpy’s Outing, The Great Fire of London and significant individuals in history. In R.E we are studying Creation, Saints and Advent.

Term 3 and 4: Julia Donaldson (Science based topic); Where the Wild Things Are, Monsters, animals and their habitats. In RE we will be learning about Revelation and Lent.

Term 5 and 6: Oh I do like to be beside the Seaside (Geography based topic); Jack and The Beanstalk, The Papaya that Spoke, human & physical geography (cities, towns, beaches,). In RE we will be learning about Pentecost, Sacraments and Relationships.

PPA cover Miss Bishop and Mrs Wells have crossover on

Wednesday afternoon. To ensure a smooth transition we meet from 1pm-2pm.

During this time Ms Thompson will teach the first P.E session of the week. (Mrs Wells will then teach the second P.E session on a Friday.)

Our aim is for all pupils and staff to ‘Learn and work together with Jesus’ through treating each other and ourselves with courtesy, care, consideration, respect and honesty.

We notice, recognise and celebrate positive behaviour and reinforce the right choices.

Full Value Contract

Each class is expected to create a “class contract” which sets out how the agreed behaviours / environment that the children will follow and adhere to.

All children and teachers will sign as part of their class agreement.

Our Traffic Light System is a calm system for encouraging good behaviour and making the right choices.

All children start on green every morning.

Positive comments and praise are given to pupils following our full value contract.

For pupils who don’t, they will be given a non-verbal look, then a calm verbal interaction, then a warning and then if things don’t improve, the child’s peg moves to amber. This will return to green if improvements are seen. If issue continues, then the peg is moved to red and 5 minutes of golden time is lost.

Children can also move from green to GOLD as a reward for very good behaviour, outstanding work and the choices made.

The expectation is that pupils use this script for all writing (task appropriate) and for homework.

Uniform

Please make sure that your child wears the correct uniform to school and everything is named.

When naming clothes please don’t just put initials in, make sure your child (and us) can identify their name easily.

Sex Education Programme Children know and understand that they are growing and developing in a God-

given community.

Examples of Year 2 activities:

What is community? Explore school as a community How can we contribute to the community? As children of God, how should we help each other? Understand human growth and development and know themselves as male

HomeworkThe expectations for homework consist of the following:• All children should read at home at least 3 times a week. This should serve to inspire

both a love of reading and to reinforce phonics work and comprehension. This should be recorded in the yellow reading logs and will be monitored by the class teacher / teaching assistant.

• Mathletics tasks will continue to be set for all classes and will build on the work covered in class the previous week.

• In KS1 a weekly English and Mathletics task will be set by teachers. This may be in the form of phonics, spellings or grammar work for English and should reinforce the learning in the classroom during the week. This will be set on a Wednesday and should be returned on a Monday

• Class teachers can set other tasks which may include research in preparation for a topic but this will be at the discretion of the class teacher and should be age appropriate.

• Links to relevant websites and resources can be provided for those parents who would like additional / further support and through conversation with the class teacher.

Year 2 SATs/ Year 1 Phonics check

In Term 6 all Year 2 children take Maths and English S.A.Ts tests.

We try to make this as low key and calm as possible and we make sure during S.A.Ts week that we do lots of fun activities too.

Any children who did not pass the Phonics screening tests in Year One will retake this with either Miss Bishop or Mrs Wells in term 6.

Maths We follow The White Rose maths scheme.

The scheme makes sure that children really understand concepts and ideas and can explain their answers through reasoning.

We use lots of practical apparatus and pictures to aid understanding.

Learning Outcome and Context At the start of each lesson, the Learning Outcome will

be shared with pupils. These are taken from the National Curriculum.

The context describes the task and the application of the Learning Outcome.

It is important that children understand “What” they are learning, “Why” they are learning a specific skill etc. and “How” they are going to learn it.

Presentation policy and expectations

As a school we want the children to be proud of their books and their learning. To help them achieve this we have clear expectations for presentation to include things like:

Consistent use of cursive handwriting

Dates and new learning outcome underlined using a ruler

Purple pens used for responding to feedback

Assessments During the year we will regularly assess your children’s

work. We will keep you informed of their progress through parent’s evenings, informal chats and end of year reports.

Appointments We try and make ourselves as available as possible, but

the beginning of the school day can be a difficult time to chat. If you have a concern then please do put it in writing, just in case we are unable to see you immediately. If you need to chat to us at length then please make an appointment via the office and we will see you A.S.A.P.
