YEAR 1/2 PHYSICAL EDUCATION
Design your own fitness ladder!
We love using our fitness ladder in classes across all year levels for different skills. It helps with overall coordination, speed, strength and agility (moving from one place to another quickly).
You may have your own fitness ladder at home (please do not use a regular ladder as these activities will be unsafe). If you have chalk, you can design your own fitness ladder on your pavement and complete the following activities!
- Hopping in each section - Two feet together jumps - Quick feet in each section- forwards, backwards, sideways - One two left, one two right - step in, step out
Please see the link below showing a chalk ladder design from Mrs Van Ballegooy! OLW YouTube Video: https://youtu.be/QI2W-cAXtWA

FUTURESCAPES - Hand Washing Science Experiment
BEFORE YOU BEGINHand washing is an important habit for you to develop in order to help reduce the spread of bacteria and viruses that may cause sickness. Because germs cannot always be seen, you may not always realise that they are even present.
This experiment will give you a visual to help you understand that germs, even though they cannot be seen, can still impact your health.
PREPARATION● 3 slices of bread, preferably fresh bakery bread with no preservatives or
bleached flour (avoid white bread)● 3 ziplock bags labelled: control, clean hands, dirty hands. This will allow
you to compare the results in a few weeks.● Before you place a slice of bread in each ziplock bag:
○ Bag 1 - Control: wash your hands with warm water and soap, wear disposable gloves and place a slice of bread inside the bag.
○ Bag 2 - Clean Hands: wash your hands with warm water and soap. Dry your hands on a clean towel before touching the bread all over, then place it inside the bag.
○ Bag 3 - Dirty hands: touch a doorknob or door handle, run your hands over your laptop, toys, chair, tie your shoelace, then take a slice of bread and pass it around to family members who want to touch it. Finally, place the slice of bread inside the bag.
● Seal the ziplock bags and store them by a window or area where it can easily be seen.
● Observe the changes over 2 - 4 weeks.● To speed up the process, you can spray a small amount of water on the
bread slices.
