The purpose of this document is to provide some advice and guidance for families in the event of continued school closures. We

know that you will be anxious about your sons and daughters missing lessons. We want to ensure that all students have access

to appropriate learning activities, but we are also aware that, in the current climate, there is a huge amount of information

being shared and that this in itself can be overwhelming for both pupils and parents.

Planning Learning Activities

Over the page, each department has provided activities for pupils to undertake. Obviously, every family will be experiencing a

different set of individual circumstances which may impact on pupils’ ability to engage in school work. We understand this, but if

schools do have to continue to be closed for a period of time, and your son or daughter is well, it may be useful to consider

establishing a routine in order to maintain some sense of normality and structure. We would suggest establishing three subject

based activities per day of approximately 45 minutes. We would also encourage pupils to use any extra free time they have to

read, to take exercise and to take some time to relax.

The details included here will provide a starting point. If necessary, we will update this information with further suggestions and

resources. If possible, please keep in touch with the school electronically and via social media. Follow us on twitter

@bryntirioncomp and use the school website http://www.bryntirioncs.bridgend.sch.uk/

Communication Tools

All pupils have a username address which allows them to access Teams. The address is their school [email protected] and the password will be the same as the one they use to log into the computer at school.

Teams

Teams are online collaborative working environments for teachers and learners. Staff can post material, information and assignments in the Team for pupils to view and complete. To access Teams pupils’ access the school’s rmunify site, open One Drive and launch the Teams app. Instructions on how to access the different online learning platforms is available on the school website, along with user guides for using Teams effectively. Construction

Activity 1

If you have completed the third homework, you will have written about and described, i) Measuring and setting out for tiling, ii) Cutting tiles, iii) Laying tiles, iv) Grouting tiles and v) Cleaning up tiles. However, what comes next? Ceramic tiles are used mainly in kitchens and bathrooms. In these areas we have sinks, showers, baths and toilets. How do we get water to these features/products? We use pipes and connectors. I want you now to look at the different ways of piping/transporting water around a house: Internal water pipes for houses. Please can you describe in detail the two main materials we use in the UK for transporting water around our houses. Explain why we use these products. I also require 2 full methods of how each system is joined and fitted in a house. Look at the following: Laying pipes Plumbing in pipes. Connecting pipes. Compare are contrast the different types of systems/materials to transport water (plumbing) around a house. Give your reasons for which system/material you would use in your house and why? I expect a couple of A4 pages on both methods (that’s a total number for all the topics), and another A4 page comparing and contrasting the different materials plus your reasons for choosing the different materials. You can add images to aid your work. DO NOT JUST COPY AND PASTE!!!!!

Activity 1

Choose a piece of music, listen to it and write about three musical points of interest you can hear. Use the elements of music (MADTSHIRTS) when writing your answer and include as much detail as possible.

Continue to engage on teams with script reviews: send in completed items of work and discuss with Mrs Davies.

Complete and send (either upload into files or send me photos) your Unit 2 Showcase work.

Activity 2

Write a short section of music (approx 8 bars) and then write a series of variations on the theme. Think about something different you can change in each variation, eg time signature, key, types of rhythms used, added melodies. You can do this by playing it on an instrument or inputting into Noteflight. Watch the funny YouTube video below for more ideas!

Complete page 14 of your devising book (this is the start of your portfolio). You need mind maps of your ideas, explanations of websites you visited, and a paragraph explaining what ideas you have had so far and where they came from (see example in booklet)

Continue to practice your instrument, voice or dance. Don’t let the regular practice lapse because you don’t have a lesson or occasion to work towards. Send me at least one video or audio recording of a song / piece / dance that you’re working on. You can upload these into the files section in teams.

Product Design

Activity 1 Biomimicry is where we, as designers, reflect on the patterns, structures and surfaces that are present in nature. Activity 1. There are a few resources for you to look at to get a better understanding of the topic. Please watch the YouTube video by following the link on the Word Doc, look at the PowerPoint and if you can print the dominoes cut them out and arrange the natural image with the product/design. It would be great if you could send me a pic of this. If you cannot print it then just try to match them visually.

Activity 2 Activity 2. With the theme of Biomimicry in mind and using the resources that you have been given, I would like you to design one of these products with a link to something in nature. (Don’t just think about the aesthetic/appearance side of it – think about structures/surface textures etc.) Design either: A piece of jewellery, An item of furniture, A gadget to solve a problem, Or if you have an idea then just check with me first. If you could model it as well as design it in some way, then that would be great practise for you.
