Year 1 TIMETABLE ( w.c. 1 st March 2021) Hi all Well, well, well. This is it children – the last week of learning at home. I’m sure many of you (and the mummies and daddies) will have mixed feelings about this. There have been some really lovely parts of being able to be in our home with our families. I don’t know about you but we’ve had some days where we’ve stayed in pyjamas all day long! We couldn’t do that at school (we’d look a bit silly if we did!) I hope that most of you will be quite happy and excited about coming back and us all being a class together again. We can’t wait to see you all again. We’ll have a class Zoom again on Friday and hope to see as many of you there as possible. You have all stayed so positive throughout this time at home and you should be so proud of yourselves. We are extremely proud of each and every one of you. Day 1

This week is the week of World Book Day. We’ve planned lots of fun activities to plunge you into the world of authors and illustrators and to think about how books are created and what makes them popular. Today’s focus: imagination and character creation Today you can enjoy the story The Paper Dolls by Julia Donaldson. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0BuURAo5f3k Below the timetable you’ll find a template for some cut-out paper dolls. Have a go at creating your own characters – they can look however you like – and give them names. Can you act out a story using your own paper dolls? Let your imagination run wild and free!

Measurement – Length and Time Work through Lesson 1 – Compare lengths activity and have a go at the activities. https://whiterosemaths.com/homelearning/year-1/spring-week-8-measurement-length-and-height/ Next find 5 random objects and arrange them in order from shortest to longest then longest to shortest.

Science – sorting and grouping We have looked at materials and objects during our science work this half term. Today we are going to think about how we could sort or group different objects and materials. Read through the PowerPoint called Sorting on the class page. Now you need to gather up some objects made of different materials (about 5 or 6) and think about how you could sort them. Think about the different properties of these objects. Once you have grouped them, can you group them in a different way? Use the sheets below the timetable to record your grouping.

Today’s focus: links to real life I am going to read you a story called When I Grow Up by Melanie Joyce https://youtu.be/Ix9Klsfc8n8 Ask your grown up (or teacher) what they wanted to be when they grew up. Did they become that? Think about what you are and are not allowed to do at home. If you could re-write the rules what would you be allowed to do? Eat sweets all day? Watch TV whenever you wanted? Have whatever you wanted for dinner every day? Finish this sentence: When I grow up I will be allowed to……….. Now that we’re thinking about ourselves as

Who do you think might have stood guard on top of those walls? Follow this link to find out more information about the castle walls: http://www.primaryhomeworkhelp.co.uk/castles/defence.htm You’ll work in three stages today: 1 – practise cutting out the tooth-shaped pattern at the top of a piece of card

What a wonderful library to be surrounded by. Imagine what it is like for the girl in the picture with all of these exciting books around her. Your task is to write a short story about the girl going into a book, having an adventure. There is an example under the timetable to use for support.

PE It might have been a while for some of you since you last REALLY got your bodies moving and shaking. Today we’re going to have some fun with a high-energy dance PE lesson. If they’re not busy try and get your grown-ups and teachers involved – you’ll feel so good by the end. In our house this one really got the baby wriggling and kicking! If you can convince your grown up to film you both giving it a go we’d LOVE to see those sent to the class e-mail address! Enjoy! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LO1S8dNtC5A

PSHE We’ve all had very different experiences of being at home for our learning. We’ve all enjoyed doing different things and will all be feeling slightly different to one another about coming back. Enjoy this Twinkl story about returning to school: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_SFjuYaNc8Y Now have a go at writing down (or drawing) how YOU are feeling about everyone returning to school. Perhaps you could write a list of all the good things about being at home and all of the good things about going back to school. Which list is longer? This might help you to work out how you feel about it all. It’s good to talk things through with a grown up and also to take some time to relax your mind about things. Enjoy a session of Cosmic Yoga to relax:

Story Starter:

This was no ordinary library. When you opened a book and began to read it, you were taken on an exciting adventure into the book itself. If you read a book about a rainforest, you were whisked off on a quest to the Amazon rainforest. If you read a book about pirates, you were suddenly on board a pirate ship sailing the seven seas.

Lucy loved this place like no other. Reading was the most exciting thing in the world. Today she sat on the comfy chair and opened a book all about…
