O God, who for our redemption gave your only-begotten Son to the death of the cross, and by hisglorious resurrection delivered us from the power of our enemy: Grant us so to die daily to sin, that we may evermore live with him in the joy of his resurrection; through Jesus Christ your Sonour Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and for ever. Amen.

The First Lesson: Acts 10:34-43

The people sit.

Lector A Reading from the Book of Acts.

Peter began to speak to Cornelius and the other Gentiles: “I truly understand that God shows nopartiality, but in every nation anyone who fears him and does what is right is acceptable to him. Youknow the message he sent to the people of Israel, preaching peace by Jesus Christ—he is Lord of all. That message spread throughout Judea, beginning in Galilee after the baptism that John announced:how God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Spirit and with power; how he went about doinggood and healing all who were oppressed by the devil, for God was with him. We are witnesses to allthat he did both in Judea and in Jerusalem. They put him to death by hanging him on a tree; butGod raised him on the third day and allowed him to appear, not to all the people but to us who werechosen by God as witnesses, and who ate and drank with him after he rose from the dead. Hecommanded us to preach to the people and to testify that he is the one ordained by God as judge ofthe living and the dead. All the prophets testify about him that everyone who believes in himreceives forgiveness of sins through his name”

Lector The Word of the Lord.People Thanks be to God.

The Psalm: Psalm 118:1-2, 14-24 (Canted)

1 Give thanks to the Lord, for he is good;his mercy endures for ever.

2 Let Israel now proclaim,“His mercy endures for ever.”

14 The Lord is my strength and my song, and he has become my salvation.

Refrain

4

15 There is a sound of exultation and victoryin the tents of the righteous:

16 “The right hand of the Lord has triumphed!the right hand of the Lord is exalted!the right hand of the Lord has triumphed!”

Refrain

17 I shall not die, but live, and declare the works of the Lord.

18 The Lord has punished me sorely, but he did not hand me over to death.

Refrain

19 Open for me the gates of righteousness;I will enter them;I will offer thanks to the Lord.

20 “This is the gate of the Lord;he who is righteous may enter.”

Refrain

21 I will give thanks to you, for you answered meand have become my salvation.

22 The same stone which the builders rejectedhas become the chief cornerstone.

23 This is the Lord’s doing, and it is marvelous in our eyes.

Refrain

The Second Lesson: Colossians 3:1-4

Lector A reading from the Book of Colossians.

If you have been raised with Christ, seek the things that are above, where Christ is, seated at theright hand of God. Set your minds on things that are above, not on things that are on earth, foryou have died, and your life is hidden with Christ in God. When Christ who is your life isrevealed, then you also will be revealed with him in glory.

Lector The Word of the Lord.People Thanks be to God.

The Gospel: John 20:1-18

Then, all standing, the minister appointed reads the Gospel.

Gospeler The Holy Gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ according to John.People Glory be to thee, O Lord.

Early on the first day of the week, while it was still dark, Mary Magdalene came to the tomb and sawthat the stone had been removed from the tomb. So she ran and went to Simon Peter and the otherdisciple, the one whom Jesus loved, and said to them, “They have taken the Lord out of the tomb, and we do not know where they have laid him.” Then Peter and the other disciple set out and wenttoward the tomb. The two were running together, but the other disciple outran Peter and reachedthe tomb first. He bent down to look in and saw the linen wrappings lying there, but he did not goin. Then Simon Peter came, following him, and went into the tomb. He saw the linen wrappingslying there, and the cloth that had been on Jesus’ head, not lying with the linen wrappings but rolledup in a place by itself. Then the other disciple, who reached the tomb first, also went in, and he sawand believed; for as yet they did not understand the scripture, that he must rise from the dead. Thenthe disciples returned to their homes.

But Mary stood weeping outside the tomb. As she wept, she bent over to look into the tomb; andshe saw two angels in white, sitting where the body of Jesus had been lying, one at the head and theother at the feet. They said to her, “Woman, why are you weeping?” She said to them, “They havetaken away my Lord, and I do not know where they have laid him.” When she had said this, sheturned around and saw Jesus standing there, but she did not know that it was Jesus. Jesus said to her,“Woman, why are you weeping? Whom are you looking for?” Supposing him to be the gardener, shesaid to him, “Sir, if you have carried him away, tellme where you have laid him, and I will take himaway.” Jesus said to her, “Mary!” She turned and said to him in Hebrew, “Rabbouni!” (which meansTeacher). Jesus said to her, “Do not hold on to me, because I have not yet ascended to the Father. But go to my brothers and say to them, ‘I am ascending to my Father and your Father, to my Godand your God.’” Mary Magdalene went and announced to the disciples, “I have seen the Lord”; andshe told them that he had said these things to her.

Gospeler The Gospel of the Lord.People Praise be to thee, O Christ.

The Sermon

The sermon today is given by the Rev. Dr. James M. Pevehouse, Locum Tenens

The Nicene Creed

We believe in one God,the Father, the Almighty, maker of heaven and earth,of all that is, seen and unseen.

We believe in one Lord, Jesus Christ, the only Son of God,eternally begotten of the Father,God from God, Light from Light, true God from true God,begotten, not made,of one Being with the Father.Through him all things were made. For us and for our salvation

he came down from heaven:by the power of the Holy Spirit

he became incarnate from the Virgin Mary, and was made man.

For our sake he was crucified under Pontius Pilate;he suffered death and was buried. On the third day he rose again

in accordance with the Scriptures;he ascended into heaven

and is seated at the right hand of theFather. He will come again in glory to judge the living and the dead,

and his kingdom will have no end.

We believe in the Holy Spirit, the Lord, the giver of life, who proceeds from the Father and the Son.With the Father and the Son he is worshiped and glorified. He has spoken through the Prophets. We believe in one holy catholic and apostolic Church. We acknowledge one baptism for the forgiveness of sins.We look for the resurrection of the dead,

and the life of the world to come. Amen.
