Current Thoughts…
Not ready to cancel DDA yet… but will
continue to monitor publisher practices
Seek DRM-free options to reduce user
frustrations
Re-evaluate benefits of shared print plan
Shared Print Approval Plan (a la CBB)
Broad profile in terms of subject areas
Focus on University Presses
1 copy of new titles to share across CTW (duplicates upon request)
Rotate shipments on weekly basis
CTW ILL for sharing titles
Pilot for minimum 3 yrs :: $100K per yr
Desired outcomes • Broader collection, more unique titles • Improved workflows, offer new titles more quickly;
fewer duplicates • Reduce selection workload; free time for other
responsibilities
Evaluating success • Ease of set up and rotating shipments• Ability to quickly fulfill title requests across CTW• Requests for & cost of duplicates (P & E)• Titles received = content expectations?• Usage over time across CTW
The Balls in the Air Collection Practices =
STL/DDA program (titles borrowed or bought upon use – happily so, for a reasonable price)
+ Shared Print Approval Plan (frontlist titles not available via DDA)
+ DRM free titles (preference: one platform for many publishers - JSTOR & Muse)
+ eBook Subscription (backlist titles)
+ Firm Orders by Selectors
