OPTION 1

TOP SECRETMISSION PLAN – SAVING DAD

Alfie’s dad was hospitalized because of shellshock. When Alfie saw what kind of place the hospital was and in what kind of shape his dad was, he decided to save his dad – to bring him home.

Alfie went on a mission to save his dad.

Now, you’re going to write a plan about a mission to save your dad. Think about what you would do and what you think should be important. Then fill in the mission plan below.

TITLE Add a catching title for your mission:

STEP 1, preparation. When you go on a mission, it is important to be well prepared. You will want to visit your dad beforehand to look around in the hospital.

What do you think is important to know before you are going to save your dad? Why?

STEP 2, transportationYou need to take your dad home safely. How would you travel?

By bus, train, on horse back, on foot or otherwise? Why would you choose this kind of transportation?

STEP 3, Saving dadWhen you arrive in the hospital to save your dad, you need to have a plan.

How would you go by the nurses unseen? (Distraction, dig a tunnel, sneak by or otherwise.) Remember that you have to take your dad along.Describe your plan:

STEP 4, Hiding dadWhen you arrive home with your dad, you have to find a place to hide him.

Where would you hide your dad? Why there?

OPTION 2

InterviewImagine you are a reporter of the London Times and you got word about what happened on Damley Road. Being the great reporter that you are, you naturally head out to find the

truth behind the story.

You want to know how WW1 affected the community at Damley road and you start by interviewing the people who live there.

Exercise:1. Choose one of the characters from the character list that you made in class.

Try to imagine what they have been through and create a list of questions that you want to ask.

2. Try to answer the questions as if you were the character from the book.

3. Rewrite the Interview into an article for the London Times.

Tips:● Look into the following sites which can help you to think of some good questions.
