Community Service Environment

Yakima Chamber of Commerce Clean-up Green-up Campaign – pick-up litter in the downtown area

Adopt a Highway Program – pick-up litter along I-82 Operation Harvest – Collect canned food donation for the local food banks. Operation Santa Claus – Distribute toys to needy children Camp Prime Time – maintain a cabin that we adopted for the Camp Prime Time

organization Abandoned Senior Support – Adopt an Nursing Home, provide Christmas presents to

residence and gather for singing on Friday’s at noon. Continue provide volunteers for the Gap to Gap – a local relay race that provides funding

for the Yakima Greenway

Vocational Service Vocation Day – High school students listen to an inspirational speaker talk about

careers or dreams, etc and then the students visit a Rotarian’s business to find out about career opportunities.

Group Study Exchange – Host a GSE Group from a foreign country Speech Contest – Annual speech contest for high school students to speak on the Four

Way Test. Scholarships are awarded. RYLA – Sponsor a student to attend Rotary Leadership Conference

International Service Youth Exchange – Host 1-2 exchange students GSE – Host group study exchange group

Club Service Club Fitness and Health – Provide information and motivation to members to exercise

and live healthy lives. Club History – Publish various historical facts regarding Yakima Sunrise Club Manual – a summary of goals and objectives of the club and a description of

each committee Social events – Organize lots of opportunities to enjoy fellowship with club members,

such as the following events: Golf Tournament, Moonlight Hike, Guess Who’s Coming to Dinner, Skip Out and Ski, the Annual Dinner for out-going President, in addition to several other potluck, BBQ Events and/or Dinner events.

CLUB SERVICE A

Attendance: Increase average attendance to 80% Notify members below 60% Reinforce attendance requirement Encourage Make-ups, inform members of E-Club make-ups Recognition of perfect attendance at the annual meeting

Classification: Survey open classifications by August 30 Classify all new members Present open classifications to Board and Membership Committee

Membership: Net increase of 4 new members Review classification survey and determine areas of concentration for membership

growth. Regular reminders to the club on sponsoring new members Work with the public relations committee to promote Sunrise Rotary as a service

opportunity.

Rotary Information: Orient new members Provide information to club members on the monthly Rotary theme Organize periodic rotary information meetings Provide an educational /orientation process for new members which effectively

stimulates enthusiasm on the part of new members in the general concepts of Rotary

Audit: Audit prior year club finances by the end of January

Club Fitness & Health: Develop a fun program to help club members stay fit and healthy Conduct periodic programs and/or announcements that highlights benefits of healthy

living and balanced diet.

CLUB SERVICE B

Sergeant at Arms: Maintain level of fun and raise additional funds for the club—be creative! Keep sergeant programs to a maximum of 5-7 minutes

If needed, make sure the meeting room is properly set-up Remind members to keep the humor clean and politically correct

Program: Continue to provide interesting and informative programs (anything current and/or

controversial, anything that has to do with people working to improve the valley, health and wealth related topics, interactive programs, real-life stories, etc.)

Refrain from having programs that have a political platform, school levy presentations, self-promotion.

Plan programs at least 3-4 weeks in advance Provide upcoming programs to the bulletin committee and inform Program chair &

President

Greeter/Invocation: Schedule club members for greeter and invocation on a timely basis Email monthly or quarterly greeter/invocation schedule to members. Send email or phone reminders one to two days before scheduled date. Committee chair should be prepared to stand in or find a replacement should member not

show.

Roster: Accumulate and maintain current membership information Quarterly email reminders to members asking for updated information Send reminders to members annually to obtain or update pictures Coordinate collection of information for Rotary book

Ways and Means: Uncover new ways to raise additional funds through club activities Lotto – consider purchasing a Rotary item once a month to raffle off Super Lotto – maintain current accounting of the pot size Paul Harris frames & other fund raisers

CLUB SERVICE C

Allocations: Continue to evaluate and recommend to the Board qualified charitable programs for

funding from the Charities fund. Locate and evaluate new charitable program(s) to allocate the additional funds we raised

in the raffle last year Make awards to the charitable organizations at the club meetings Report allocations in the bulletin on a regular basis with a description of the program

funded.

Bulletin: Publish the bulletin at least twice a month Publish information from the various active committees Maintain a calendar of events Publish awards and recognitions

Historian: Develop and publish a written history of the club Committee members to each write one historical article regarding our club to be

published in the bulletin

Public Relations: Develop a PSA regarding Sunrise Rotary activities and the opportunities for service Coordinate with other committees to publicize projects and events. Publicize involvement in significant events and get the word out in the community about

Rotary

Social: Maintain a fun, active and well-rounded social calendar Publish the social calendar in the club bulletin Promote social events at weekly meetings…make it fun to spark interest…be descriptive

of what to expect at the event for newer members. For Guess Who’s Coming to Dinner, have long-time member invite new member to event Coordinate with the Ways and Means Committee if a new social/fundraiser is planned Work with past President to plan annual dinner

COMMUNITY SERVICE A

Community Service: Plan one new significant community service “hands on” project for membership

involvement If funding needed for a new project, present the project to the Ways and Means

Committee and Board as soon as possible Accumulate and evaluate a list of potential community projects for future consideration This committee is responsible for Camp Prime Time coordination Coordinate with the Public Relations committee to promote Sunrise Rotary.

Environment: Continue to participate in Clean-up Green-up and to maintain the area along I-82 that

we have adopted Publish work dates in the club bulletin Coordinate with the Public Relations Committee to promote club activities

Raffle: Equal or exceed last years raffle sales Hold a draft night to select raffle teams Promote active participation by all members in sales of raffle tickets Schedule and coordinate sale venues for member sale opportunities Keep membership apprised of progress….make it fun Coordinate with the Social Committee for a club celebration

Operation Harvest: Work jointly with the Downtown and Southwest Rotary Clubs in the collecting of donated

food items for local food banks

Operation Santa Claus: Coordinate with a local organization to obtain list of needy children and their Christmas

wish-lists Apply for grant funds from District to help fund this program Enlist members to shop and help distribute presents to children Develop and inform members of schedule for bike assembly/repair Coordinate with the Public Relations committee to promote Sunrise Rotary

Memorial Service Scholarship: Award a $1000 scholarship to a high school student who exemplifies the Rotary motto of

Service Above Self Coordinate with the Public Relations committee to promote Sunrise Rotary

Abandoned Senior Support: Identify seniors without family and provide outreach and meet identified needs especially

at Holidays Promote monthly singing gatherings at adopted Nursing Home Coordinate with the Public Relations committee to promote Sunrise Rotary

INTERNATIONAL SERVICE

Rotary Foundation: Total Annual Programs Fund goal equal to $100 per active member annually and

Permanent Fund goal of $1,000 Educate members about the Rotary Foundation Encourage support of the Rotary Foundation, $100 per member every year Encourage support of the Permanent Fund

World Community Service: Develop at least one new World Community Service project Fund and implement one or two World Community Service projects during the year

VOCATIONAL SERVICE

Vocation Day: Send out notifications/invites to Yakima Valley high school advisors 6-8 weeks prior to

YOUTH PROGRAMS

Youth Exchange: Sponsor at least one inbound and one outbound student from our club and share an

additional student inbound and outbound with the other Yakima rotary clubs Develop an inbound student calendar and encourage members to sign-up to take the

student on an outing/dinner in order to get to know the student Post outbound student letters/postcards in the bulletin

Speech Contest: Send out invitations to Yakima Valley high school advisors about 6 weeks prior to Speech

Contest day Select at least five quality high school students to give a speech on the Rotary themes of

Service Above Self and/or the Four Way Test. Award Scholarships to the finalists Consider moving to February to increase participation of high school seniors

RYLA/Student Visitation: Sponsor one student to the District 5060 RYLA program Inform club members and schools about RYLA Present a qualified candidate to the Board by April 1 Survey area schools for interest in Student Visitation at weekly meetings
