“Buying local food means that we are reducing our reliance on fossil fuel transport and have the freshest and most nutritious food available”

This inspiring guide is aimed at increasing the awareness and appreciation of local food sources to help local farmers and producers thrive and recognise the excellent work done by community groups creating local

markets, community gardens, edible streetscapes, and in saving heritage seeds. This draws upon the wealth of our renown, rich agricultural history.

I encourage residents and visitors to our beautiful shire to talk to producers, processors, restaurants and cafes to get to know your local food.

We should all regularly say “Thank You” to those who provide the food we eat and grow our local economy. Buying local food means that we are reducing our reliance on fossil fuel transport and have the freshest and most nutritious food available.

We celebrate this through events including Made in Dorrigo, as well as at regular monthly markets. Remember, bring your bags and baskets, and even better, walk or ride a bike to get there. I welcome you to savour our local culture.
