Year 11 Maths Learning Map Algebraic Manipulaon Equaons Students’ will build on their understanding of algebra to solve a range of different types of equaon. These will include equaons with mulple unknown terms, simultaneous equaons, quadrac equaons as well as situaons where students will have to construct and solve equaons from the informaon given (e.g. for an angles queson). Graphs This unit supports students to build connecons between the abstract equaons and the more visual graphical representaons. Students will consolidate their knowledge and bring together the interrelated strands of sequences, equaons and graphs. Students will construct and interpret linear, quadrac and simultaneous graphs as well as those for other polynomials / standard formats. Number Fracons This block focuses on performing calculaons with fracons (including improper and mixed numbers). Within this unit students will consider the magnitude of fracons and their equivalents in order to place them in order of size. Powers and Indices This unit focuses on correct use of index notaon as well as allowing students to explore prime factor decomposion and its connecon with highest common factor and lowest common mulple. Students will also explore how standard index form can be used to simplify / understand numbers that are parcularly large or small (e.g. distances between planets). Rao and Proporon This unit builds on students KS3 knowledge and allows them to consider problems built around direct proporon and rao. This gives students an opportunity to apply their knowledge to more contextualised problems such as exchange rates, scaling up quanes in a recipe. Percentages Students consider the applicaon of percentages. This builds strongly on the understanding from HT2 and allows the applicaon of knowledge to financial problems such as interest rates or depreciaon. - TERM 1 - Stascs Handling Students will consider a range of different common methods of represenng data (e.g. pie charts, scaer graphs etc…). As part of this students will be asked to invesgate common misconcepons or misleading elements of presentaons that may be found in the wider media. Probability Students will consider the difference between dependant events and independent events to support them to challenge commonly held misconcepons around probability. Students will also explore the ideas of fairness and bias to understand why not all situaons are as transparent as they seem. Finally students will look at a range of methods for modelling / represenng and quanfying these scenarios to help them beer understand the nature of each situaon. Shape, Space and Measures Pythagoras’ Theorem Students will invesgate and then apply Pythagoras’ theorem to allow them to calculate dimensions of a right-angled triangle. Students will be supported to understand its possible historical applicaons and to subsequently apply this to a range of more contextualised problems. Angles Students will consider a range of angle facts. In the case of the most important students will be supported to explore proofs of these facts. Key elements include angles in polygons, interior and exterior angles, angles between parallel lines. Trigonometry Students will explore how trigonometric raos can be idenfied based on similar triangles. Subsequently students will apply their knowledge to be able to calculate missing sides and angles for right-angled triangles using sine, cosine and tangent. - TERM 2 - Responsive Teaching Based on TA2 Assessment DIRT - Assessment Review Paper 1 DIRT – Assessment Review Paper 2 DIRT – Assessment Review Paper 3 Addional content will be idenfied through the monitoring of the Asserve Mentoring materials and idenficaon of persisng gaps in knowledge. - TERM 3 - This sequence of learning is designed to build on fundamental knowledge and allow students to make connecons between content from the KS3 programme of study. Because of this, students are able to consider quesons that require them to apply knowledge from different areas of the curriculum (e.g. calculate the proporon of a shapes area that is shaded when the dimensions are given as fracons). LINKS TO PRIOR LEARNING HT3 is designed to give students the opportunity to apply their knowledge to the wider world and to support students to beer understand the informaon they are exposed to. This builds on the KS3 Naonal Curriculum. HT4 is designed to extend the thinking of students. It allows opportunies to build on their algebraic knowledge (form and solve equaons including angle facts, construcng a mathemacal response in trigonometry/Pythagoras) as well as to extend their understanding of proporon and similar shapes. LINKS TO PRIOR LEARNING The learning in this term is based completely on addressing idenfied gaps in prior knowledge and on supporng students to answer quesons that require them to use content from more than one area of the curriculum. Algebraic Manipulation

EquationsStudents’ will build on their understanding of algebra to solve a range of different types of equation.
