NOTES: Comparing the parts missing from the specimen on Card 2 and the parts present on the slide there is little doubt that the two are associated. The PUBL. The Queensland Museum register numbers for the Syntypes of this species are T.9176 (Card 1) and Hy.3188 (Card 2). LONGIVENTRIS OOTETRASTICHELLA Girault, 1913. 1913, Mem. Girault's label is rather confusingin having "S 9" after "Coccophagus" and"Type 4" between "Coccophagus mariaGirault" and "A blerus piceipes 9". Itcould be read that "Type V' refers to thelast mentioned species. However, the typeof Ablerus piceipes occurs on another slide. It is difficult to understand why Girault haswritten " d 2 ... Type 4" associated withCoccophagus maria. Perhaps he intendedthat 1 9 was to be his Holotype. Since aHolotype was not designated in the

If one examines the PUBL.DATA with Polynema mendeli it is clearthat the Holotype is a single male on a slidewith Gonatocerus spinozai Girault and theHolotype of Polynema nordaui Girault. This information fits Slide 1 and is backedup by further information in the samepaper. In the introduction to the paperGirault says, "The following species haverecently been captured by Mr Alan P.Dodd and very kindly given to me". The

only time that full collection data are givenis with the first species Polynema bicolorand they say, "... sweeping jungle growthsalong forest streamlet, near Nelson [=Gordonvale], North Queensland, December6, 1912 (A.P. Dodd)". This date is presenton Slide 1. The PUBL. DATA withPolynema nordaui described in the samepaper state, "Type ... the above female inbalsam (mounted with Gonatocerusspinozai and the type of Polynema mendeh)."Under Gonatocerus spinozai (describedin 1912 by Girault, Mem. Qd Mus. 1140) Girault says, "At the same time thatthe above new species [ Polynema bicolor ]was captured Mr Dodd obtained a pair ofthis species". The PUBL. DATA for P.wallacei on Slide 2 (descr. by Gir. in 1915,Mem. Qd Mus. 3 : 166) state "Type ... 1female on a slide with a female of mendeli".All of this information clearly points tothe male on Slide 1 as the Holotype of P.mendeli and the female on Slide 2 as anadditional specimen. The confusion resulting from the incorrectlabelling of the above specimens has beencompounded by the actions of twosubsequent workers. New (1976) incorrectlyassumed that the female on Slide 2 was theHolotype and appears to have overlookedSlide 1. Sveum (1982) attempted to solvethe confusion by assuming all specimens ofPolynema mendeli above were Syntypes. He then selected the male as a Lectotypeand the two females as Paralectotypes. Both workers appear to have overlookedthe clear evidence in the original paperwhich is listed above. The confusion shouldnot have arisen and selection of aLectotype was unnecessary. The twofemales were not mentioned in the originaldescription and therefore have no type-status. Their selection as Paralectotypes isinvalid. New (1976) has similarly confusedthe issue with Polynema nordaui byselecting the wrong specimen as theHolotype (the correct specimen is the maleon Slide 1).T.3614 on Slide 2 is a duplicate QueenlandMuseum register number for the Holotypeof this species and has been cancelled.
