Programme

About the Conference

The General DebateThe General Debate is the opportunity for member States to formally express their views on the substantive issues of the Conference by way of formal statements at the highest possible level. The General Debate is expected to open on the afternoon of Monday 21 April 2008 and to conclude on Thursday 24 April 2008. Statements will be broadcast on the Internet in accordance with the order in which delegations have been inscribed on the list of speakers. The texts of statements that are remitted to the secretariat will be reproduced and distributed during the Conference in the language version(s) in which they are received by the secretariat.

The Committee of the WholeAs per past practices, the Conference will establish a Committee of the Whole to consider and report on the substantive items of the Conference, in particular the draft negotiating text. The opening plenary of the Committee of the Whole will take place on Monday afternoon, 21 April 2008 and the closing plenary will take place on Friday morning,25 April 2008. The opening and closing plenaries will be public meetings.

The Civil Society ForumThe Forum will be held from 17 to 25 April 2008. The plenary session of the Forum will take place on 17, 18 and 19 April. Civil society organizations will discuss and �nalize a statement to be presented at the opening plenary of the Conference. The Forum will continue its activities and events in parallel to the Conference from 20 to 25 April 2008.

The World Investment ForumThe Forum will be held on the occassion of the UNCTAD XII Conference from 19 to 22 April2008. It will provide an unprecedented opportunity for policymakers, corporate executives, investors and heads of investment promotion agencies to meet and interact through a series of conferences, networking and social events. It will include interactive sessions on three highly topical themes: prospects for global FDI, changing global production patterns, and FDI in Africa. It will also include policy events, such as the Global Leaders' Investment Debate and the interactive thematic round table 2 on creating an institutionalenvironment conducive to increased foreign investment and sustainable development.

About the Conference

The General DebateThe General Debate is the opportunity for member States to formally express their views on the substantive issues of the Conference by way of formal statements at the highest possible level. The General Debate is expected to open on the afternoon of Monday 21 April 2008 and to conclude on Thursday 24 April 2008. Statements will be broadcast on the Internet in accordance with the order in which delegations have been inscribed on the list of speakers. The texts of statements that are remitted to the secretariat will be reproduced and distributed during the Conference in the language version(s) in which they are received by the secretariat.

The Committee of the WholeAs per past practices, the Conference will establish a Committee of the Whole to consider and report on the substantive items of the Conference, in particular the draft negotiating text. The opening plenary of the Committee of the Whole will take place on Monday afternoon, 21 April 2008 and the closing plenary will take place on Friday morning,25 April 2008. The opening and closing plenaries will be public meetings.

The Civil Society ForumThe Forum will be held from 17 to 25 April 2008. The plenary session of the Forum will take place on 17, 18 and 19 April. Civil society organizations will discuss and �nalize a statement to be presented at the opening plenary of the Conference. The Forum will continue its activities and events in parallel to the Conference from 20 to 25 April 2008.

The World Investment ForumThe Forum will be held on the occassion of the UNCTAD XII Conference from 19 to 22 April2008. It will provide an unprecedented opportunity for policymakers, corporate executives, investors and heads of investment promotion agencies to meet and interact through a series of conferences, networking and social events. It will include interactive sessions on three highly topical themes: prospects for global FDI, changing global production patterns, and FDI in Africa. It will also include policy events, such as the Global Leaders' Investment Debate and the interactive thematic round table 2 on creating an institutionalenvironment conducive to increased foreign investment and sustainable development.

Debate generalEl debate general brinda a los Estados Miembros la oportunidad de expresar directamente sus puntos de vista en temas sustantivos de la Conferencia a través de declaraciones formales. El debate general se abrirá el lunes 21 de abril de 2008 por la tarde y concluirá el jueves 24 de abril de 2008. Las declaraciones serán transmitidas por Internet de acuerdo con el orden de inscripción de las delegaciones en la lista de oradores. Los textos de las declaraciones que sean transmitidos a la secretaría se reproducirán y distribuirán durante la Conferencia en el idioma en que hayan sido recibidos por la secretaría.

Comité PlenarioConforme a la práctica, la Conferencia establecerá un Comité Plenario encargado del examinar e informar sobre los temas sustantivos de la Conferencia, en particular el proyecto de texto de negociación. La sesión plenaria de apertura se celebrará el lunes 21 de abril de 2008 por la tarde y la sesión plenaria de clausura tendrá lugar el viernes 25 de abril de 2008 por la mañana. Las sesiones plenarias de apertura y clausura serán públicas.

Foro de la Sociedad CivilEl Foro de la Sociedad Civil se llevará a cabo del 17 al 25 de abril de 2008. La sesión plenaria del Foro tendrá lugar los días 17, 18 y 19 de abril. Las organizaciones de la sociedad civil analizarán y ultimarán una declaración que será presentada en la sesión plenaria de apertura de la Conferencia. El Foro continuará con sus actividades y eventos en paralelo a las actividades de la Conferencia del 20 al 25 de abril de 2008.

Foro Mundial de InversionesEl Foro será llevará a cabo en ocasión de la 12ª conferencia de la UNCTAD del 19 al 22 de abril de 2008. Proporcionará una oportunidad sin precedente para los responsables de las políticas, los ejecutivos de empresas, los inversores y jefes de las agencias de la promoción de la inversión de reunirse e intercambiar opiniones a través de una serie de conferencias, oportunidades para establecer redes y eventos. El Foro incluirá sesiones interactivas sobre tres temas de gran trascendencia, a saber: las perspectivas de la IED mundial, los cambios de las modalidades de producción mundiales, y la IED en África. Asimismo, el foro incluirá eventos en materia de políticas, como el Debate de los Líderes Mundiales sobre Inversiones y la mesa redonda 2 sobre la creación de un entorno institucional propicio al aumento de la inversión extranjera y el desarrollo sostenible.
