HOD Speak Dear Readers,
It gives me immense pleasure in putting before you this is-sue of Insight!!
2019 was an eventful year as VIT achieved A+ grade in NAAC and Electronics department has been accredited by NBA for a period of 3 years. We are looking forward to get an academic flexibility, which will enable us to introduce more skill develop-ment courses in the curriculum, increase the percentage of labor-atory sessions in the courses, industry internships for more and more students are some of the major objectives that are here in our minds. Department has taken initiatives for the same.
We hope that with such initiatives, there will be an improve-ment in the number as well as quality of the students entering engineering education. It will also make them industry ready. Re-
cently our department organized a training program on “Electronic Product Design”. It wit-nessed a good response from the students, which is indicative of student’s focus on “Creation and Creativity”. There was a pool of experts from the industry and academia who enlightened and motivated the participants.
We are on the onset of New Year 2020 and plan to achieve greater success.. Wishing Eve-ryone a Very Happy New Year !

Latest Technology: Cisco’s One Networking Chip
In the month of December Cisco has announced about the Silicon One which is a unique single platform for all routers and it is available for white boxes as well as for the vendor’s specific hardware. Cisco has a major shift in its networking strategy with the intro-duction of a new networking silicon architec-ture called Cisco Silicon One and a new high-performance router platform, the Cisco 8000. Cisco has launched the new application-specific integrated circuit (ASIC) at a special event for analysts and reporters. The major customers of the hardware are cloud service providers and other companies with mega-scale data centres (MSDC). The CISCO was not a supplier to those earlier. "That was an untouchable space for us," Jonathan Da-vidson, general manager for Cisco's service provider business, said in an interview at the event. Cisco has been working on a technology strategy in the field of silicon, optics and software. This will support customers in an advance digital world, the San Jose, Ca-lif.-based vendor said. Cisco said that the new chip will bring performance up to 25 tera-bits per second and will be available to third-party companies, such as cloud and service providers, looking to add high-performance networking to their infrastructure. Cisco also introduced a new high-performance router platform, the Cisco 8000, which is based on Cisco Silicon One and the company's new IOS XR7 networking operating system. This will help service providers keep cost down when building out and operating large-scale networks. It will become even more useful as carriers design and build their massive 5G networks. Cisco Silicon One will help businesses build infrastructure that meet the per-formance requirements of new applications including virtual and augmented reality, high-speed streaming, artificial intelligence, 5G networking, adaptive and predictive cyber-security, Internet of Things, and others yet to be developed, Cisco said. Cisco's Future product roadmap
Cisco's new direction with the introduction of Cisco Silicon One and its so-called "Internet for the Future" strategy is the most ambitious development project the company has ever undertaken, said David Goeckeler, executive vice president and general man-ager of the networking and security business at Cisco. Student Speak:
Hello everyone, my name is Shubham Patil and I am currently in the third year of electronics. I got into Vidya-lankar Institute of Technology in 2017-18. Selecting col-lege was hard for me as I am not from Mumbai. After consulting with my mentor, I selected Vidyalankar due to its supportive and friendly faculty. After visiting many colleges, I can surely tell that our campus is one of the best in Mumbai.
Being in the hostel committees limited me from joining college committees or councils, but their dedication to-wards all events is admirable. To my surprise majority of my close friends in college are from Mumbai and they helped me a lot in understanding the Mumbai lifestyle. Seniors are the next to the professors if one needs any help. I was helped a lot in curric-ulum related issues. Enjoy your first year, it's unlikely to relive those days. Making mini projects are focused more for all subjects as practical skills are the foremost useful in future life. I remember about spending more time in labs than in classes.
After 1st year the real course subjects starts, and we are introduced to our department and faculties in Induction program. Our college has a strong digital front, with VLIVE and ERP. We also get college email ID. There are lots of student benefits given by many companies. It ranges from a student concession in Spotify to free Microsoft office for PC, we also get free Autodesk applications. For leisure, we have gymkhana and a whole block dedicated to games from table tennis to PC. I had a start-up with my friends and our college’s ECELL helped a lot in providing necessary resources and motivation.
Personality builds according to the surroundings and I can say we have the best culture surrounding in VIT. I attended many training programs and industrial visits conducted by our college these really helps us in getting hands-on knowledge. Technology is ever changing these things helps us to keep track. Industrial lecturers are very helpful in get-ting a new perspective of our subject.
I am in third year now, the best time to think about future studies or jobs or courses and planning accordingly. Projects and internships play a crucial role in our pursuit. There is nothing like last minute submission rush, one day exam preparation, making non opera-tional projects somehow work, on the spot presentations, scavenging for notes during preparation leave, preparations for viva, etc. All evaluations are done weekly and notes are provided for each subject. Also library has all required stuff for studies. I think those are the things that make us better Engineers.
