WELCOME BY Mr BARTOLO CONSOLO, LEN PRESIDENT
On behalf of the Ligue Européenne de Natation, I send all good wishes for
the 11th edition of the European Masters Swimming Championships.
LEN and its masters are no strangers to Kranj, for in 2003 the European
Masters Water Polo Championships were staged there. In 2007 though it
will be the turn of our swimmers, divers, synchronised and open water
swimmers to enjoy the delights of Slovenia and certainly record entries are
envisaged. Who in the circuit of European masters could resist this invita-
tion to compete in such beautiful and tranquil surroundings? The main
Swimming and Synchronised Swimming events in Kranj will witness excel-
lent facilities in a peaceful rural area, whilst the open water swimmers will
be a short distance away at stunningly beautiful Lake Bled.
Whilst the Diving events will be held in Jesenice, Kranj and LEN are prepar-
ing to host Synchronised Swimming for the first time in the masters pro-
gramme. The masters family continues to grow and its ethos of good sport
and good friendship will, I am sure, be extended even more in Slovenia.
What a marvellous festival it promises to be!
With all good wishes to the masters of Europe and to our hosts in Slovenia
where the Organising Committee is preparing a European Masters
Swimming Championships to remember.
Best wishes and good training!
Bartolo Consolo
LEN President

WELCOME BY Mr JURE PROSEN, PRESIDENT OF THE SLOVENESWIMMING ASSOCIATION
Dear Sirs,
It is a great honour and a privilege that LEN should entrust the organiza-
tion of a major sporting event to the Slovene Swimming Association (PZS).
The fact that the European Masters Championships will be held in Slovenia
recognizes the successful organization of the European Junior
Championships and the European Open Water Swimming Cup, held at
Bled in 2005. Beside that we have hosted also European Waterpolo
Championships in 2003, as well as European Masters Waterpolo
Championships just after words.
I am convinced that the Slovene Swimming Association and the other
organizers will once again prove themselves to be great hosts, justifying
the trust which was placed on them. The 2007 Championships will be
organized at different venues. Swimming and synchronised swimming in
Kranj, diving in Jesenice and openwater swimming in Bled, but the dis-
tance between them is maximum 25 minutes.
All the Swimming Federations are kindly invited to participate in the
Championships and at the same time get to know the beautiful country
on the sunny side of the Alps.
We look forward to the visit of all LEN members.
Sincerely,
Jure PROSEN, BSc (Civil Engineering)
President of the Slovene Swimming Association

SLOVENIA, THE GREENGARDEN OF EUROPE At the heart of Europe, between Italy, Austria, Hungary and Croatia, where the
Slavic, Germanic and Romanic worlds meet, lies Slovenia, a country blessed by
nature and boasting in rich history. Few parts of the world can offer such a mosaic
of different landscapes and climates in such a small area. The Alps, the Panonian
Plain, the mysterious Karst and the Mediterranean hinterland of the warm Adriatic
all come together here, just a few hours drive apart.
The territory of Slovenia has been settled for millennia. The oldest known musical
instrument in the world, the Neanderthal flute, was found here. The old Illyrians and
Celts lived on the territory currently known as Slovenia, and the first towns were
built under Romans two thousands years ago. Such great military leaders as Caesar
and Napoleon have led their armies through this crossroads of Europe.
LEN did not entrust such an important championship to Slovenia by chance.
Whoever comes to this country immediately falls in love with it, because Slovenia is
known for its kind people, interesting and diverse surroundings, and plenty of dif-
ferent possibilities all within reach. Slovenians are traditionally skilled organizers of
big sporting events, and we are convinced that you will share this opinion when
leaving our country.
The European Masters Championships in Swimming, Diving, Open water and
Synchronised swimming will take place in Kranj (Swimming and Synchronised swim-
ming), Bled (Open water swimming), and in Jesenice (Diving). Kranj is the main city of
Slovenia’s Gorenjska region and boasts a swimming complex finalized in 2004 with an
outside and inside swimming pools. Bled is the jewel of Gorenjska region, attracting
many tourists because of its breathtaking scenery featuring a lake with an island.
Furthermore, it is only a 20 minute drive away from Kranj, and 15 minutes from
Jesenice and offers accommodation of the highest class at affordable prices. That is
why most of the participants will be staying at Bled, a town that will live for the
European Championships at the end of August and the beginning of September 2007.
On top of that, many interesting excursions will be organized, such as the one to the
Postojna Cave, one of the most beautiful and mysterious caves in the world, Lipica,
a stud-farm founded in 1580 with the white Lipizzaner horses, old Mediterranean
cities on the Adriatic coast and Kobarid with its world famous museum of the
biggest mountain battle in the First World War. All these destinations are only a
short distance away. Visitors will experience the beautiful nature, sample delicious
local wines and food specialties, and experience the hospitality of the locals.
Slovenia invigorates.
Additional information on Slovenia is available at www.slovenia.info
KRANJ, a town on a promontoryKranj holds a dominant geographical position and its administrative and economic
centre of the Gorenjska region. Modern Kranj is also a university town and the sports
centre of the most developed region in Slovenia.
A visit to Kranj starts even before you enter the old city center. The characteristic
pyramidal prominence welcomes all those who want to get to know the “capital of
5
the Gorenjska region”. The city of the poet Preøeren is settled on conglomerate
rocks under the Storæiœ Mountain, and right at the confluence of the Sava and the
Kokra rivers. When strolling through the streets of old Kranj, you will get to enjoy
the beauty of architect Pleœnik’s arcades with the fountain right next to the Rosary
church, and visit the City Hall with its wedding room and a permanent archaeolog-
ical exhibition entitled The Iron Thread.
The cultural city offers a wide choice of cultural events, especially during the summer.

BLEDIts natural beauty, points of historical interest and an advantageous geographical
location south of the Alps, make Bled and ideal place for tourism. The image of Bled
with castle, the lake and the island in the middle of the lake, are sights by which Bled
is known to nearly entire world. The Bled Castle, a silent witness to its former power,
resolute and proud on a high rock above the lake, stands watch over the town.
Lake Bled is renowned for its exceptional beauty. The forested slopes of the Jelovica
and Pokljuka, the Julian Alps with their highest peak Triglav - the symbol of the
Slovenian nation - and the Karavanke Mountains, serve as the background to this
heavenly spot.
In the middle of the lake lies the island with the Church of the Assumption. The
island and the church have a rich history. Inside the church there is the wishing bell
from 1534. In addition to all these features, Bled and its surroundings provide a
number of other interesting sights that are worth a visit.

JeseniceJesenice, a former centre of iron and steel processing, is located in the north-west-
ern part of Slovenia, 15 minutes away from Bled and 25 minutes from Kranj. The
town stretches along the deep, narrow valley where the Sava river passes through
Mt. Mezakla and the Karavanke mountain range. In the north, the area borders
Austria, with the border running along the mountain peaks Klek, Golica and the
Suha Pass and in the west the region ends with the Karavanke tunnel providing for
the shortest route from Slovenia to the western Europe.
Jesenice is surrounded by the Karavanke Mountains and other popular beauty spots
such as Mt. Golica, famous for white narcissi in May, capturing the admiration of
either a native or an eventual traveler to Jesenice region from abroad.

and field facilities, tennis courts, basketball courts and a skating ring.
The swimming pool area connects an outdoor and an indoor swimming pool. The construction of the indoor
swimming pool began in 1994, and it opened in December 2004. The complex also boasts a gym, sauna, spa

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONSHow can I participate?
To participate in the XI. European Maters Championships, you have to be a member of an European club which
is registered in your country’s national swimming federation and you have to meet the posted entry times.
How can I register?
You will find all the necessary entry forms on the web page or in the entry booklet sent to your federation. You
have to fill out and send the following forms:
- a photocopy of the passport or ID, showing the date of birth,
- an entry form approved by the National Federation,
- the filled in and signed “Release from Liability”,
- the filled in and signed accreditation paper,
- two photos for accreditation purposes.
All the forms should be sent to the following address:
SI SPORT Ltd, Mlakarjeva ulica 93, SI-4208 Øenœur, Slovenia
no later than on 22 June 2007 and paid to:
Bank: SKB Banka d.d., Ajdovœina 4, 1513 Ljubljana, Slovenia
IBAN: SI56 0312 6106 1223 446
BIC: SKBASI2X
Beneficiary: SI SPORT d.o.o., Mlakarjeva ulica 93, 4208 Øenœur, Slovenia
Terms of conditions: OUR
How can I make sure that my registration is correct?
The Organizing Committee will publish all the entries on the official web page. All the competitors will be able
to check their data and entries in order to avoid later mistakes and problems.
How can I find accommodation?
The Organizing Committee is offering a wide range of all types of accommodation which you can see on our
web page www.emc2007.com.
Prices are lower than regular hotel prices. Please note that the end of August and September are still the tourist
season, so many accommodation options could be occupied during that time. We advise all competitors to
book their rooms well in advance (as soon as possible).
Reservation deadline is 22 May 2007.
What is the best place to stay?
We advise all the competitors to stay in Bled. Bled is only 20 minutes away from Kranj, and it is a real tourist
spot with a picturesque lake and an island in the middle. When you come to Bled, don’t miss out on an enjoy-
able trip to the Bled island with a special boat called ‘pletna’, and make sure to visit the old castle, the muse-
um and the art galleries. It’s fun to watch the traditional and modern day cultural festivities, to ride around the
lake in a horse-drawn carriage, or do a number of other things we haven’t mentioned like playing golf, tasting
local specialties etc.
Staying in Bled will give you a lasting impression of the championships, and an option to spend a day with your
old friends.
A bus shuttle will be organized five times a day from Bled to Kranj.

What is the first thing I have to do when I arrive to Slovenia?
The first thing all competitors (also divers) have to do is come to the Information Center at the Kranj Outdoor
Pool, where they will get their accreditation and accommodation voucher. It is also possible to book tourist tours
there.
I’m flying to Slovenia, how do I get to Kranj?
The official partner AVIS is offering transportation from Ljubljana Brnik airport and even from neighboring air-
ports in Austria (Wien, Graz, Salzburg) and Italy (Trieste and Venice). We strongly advise you to book your trans-
portation in advance at the following address: [email protected]
The distance between the airport and Kranj is about 8 kilometers .
Will there be any organized tours?
The Organizing Committee will provide 13 different daily tours in Slovenia, and even in Austria and Italy. A short
description can be found on our web page under the title Tourist tours. Because the number of participants for
some tours is limited, we strongly advise all the competitors to book their tours as soon as possible.
What are the distances between venues?
The distance between Kranj and Bled is 20 minutes; the towns are connected with a highway. The distance
between Jesenice and Bled is 15 minutes and the distance between Kranj and Jesenice is 25 minutes. The ven-
ues are well connected.
When trainines for Open Water Swimming are possible?
Basicly, you can do training every day, because lines are the same as for rowing, but trainines will be on your
own risk.
