Unplug the units from the wall outlet before cleaning the exterior. Always usematerials specifically designated for the XES Synergix 8825/8830/8855 DigitalSolution. Use of other materials may result in poor performance and couldcreate a hazardous situation.

The XES 8855 Engineering Printer is equipped with anadditional safety feature, a Ground Fault Interrupter (GFI). Thissafety device will remove all power to the printer if an electricalfault is detected.In the event that power is interrupted to the printer, locate theGFI safety device on the power cord:Check that a red indicator appears in the window (A) of thesafety device shown opposite.If no indicator is present, press and release the black RESETbutton (B). The red indicator should appear in the window, andpower should be restored to the printer.if the device interrupts power to the printer again, or if power isnot restored by performing the above procedure, call XeroxService to correct the problem.

Media Information

MEDIA INFORMATIONLoading the Media - Rolls 1, 2, 3

1. Pull the handle and openthe drawer which requiresthe media.

2. Rewind the paperremaining on the roll.

3. Hold the roll at both endsand lift the roll out of thedrawer.

8. Hold the roll at both endsand set the roll into thedrawer.

9. Insert the lead edge of thepaper between the upperand lower feed rollers.

10. Rotate the lower roller byhand in order to feed aninch of paper between therollers.

6. Press the green lockinglever and insert the spindleinto the new roll of paper.

7. Align the edge of the rollwith the appropriate widthdimension on the spindle.

NOTE: To avoid unnecessarystrain, load the heaviest roll inthe Top Drawer and thelightest rolls at the bottom.

4. Press the green lever atthe end of the spindle.

5. Slide the spindle out of thepaper core.

NOTE: Ensure that the rubbertracking belt is underneath theplastic roller on the paperspindle. If not, the printer willindicate an out-of-papercondition.

MEDIA INFORMATIONMaking a Test PrintThe printer is able to producea test print by itself, withoutany external input device.The length of the test print andthe roll selection can beadjusted by Xerox Service.

1. Locate the test print switchin the small opening nextto the Status Display.

2. Press the test print switchwith the point of a ballpoint pen or somethingsimilar.

• The printer will produce asingle test print.

MEDIA INFORMATIONDehumidifierThe printer is equipped withheaters, which maintain themedia at a constanttemperature. The heatersoperate at night and in high-humidity conditions, in order toavoid moisture-relatedproblems with the media.

Xerox Service can set theheaters to operate in threemodes:

1. off when printing2. off when printer is switched

on.3. on all the time.

The heaters continue tooperate when the printer isswitched off, as long as theprinter is connected to a livepower outlet.

1. Open the Top Cover inorder to locate theDehumidifier Switch.

2. Set the switch to thecorrect position for dampor dry conditions:

• In damp conditions, thedehumidifier switch shouldbe set to the H position.

• In dry conditions, thedehumidifier switch shouldbe set to the L position.

Manual Bypass

MANUAL BYPASS FEED

The bypass feed mode is usedwhen the print, which is beingsent to the printer, is adifferent size than the rollmedia loaded in the printer.For example:You want to send a C sizeprint, but there is no C sizemedia loaded in the printer.You can use the bypass feedmode to run the C size print,using cut sheet media.When the correct media is notloaded for an incoming print,the Status Display shows theflashing code P-05.

1. Adjust the paper guides tothe correct size.

2. Feed the cut sheet mediasquarely into the printer,curl side down andbetween the guides, untilthe media stops.

• The Status Displayindicates the size when themedia is loaded (05-xx).

CLEARING THE MEDIA PATHMedia Jam J-01, J-02When a jam J-01 occurs, themedia jams while feeding fromRoll 1 in the top drawer.When a jam J-02 occurs, themedia jams while feeding fromRoll 2 in the middle drawer.

1. Pull the handle and openthe drawer indicated by thejam code.

2. Manually rewind the rolluntil the lead edge of thepaper comes out of thefeed rollers.

3. Trim the lead edge of theroll squarely to remove anytorn or wrinkled paper.

4. Remove any scraps or tornpieces of paper from theinside of the printer.

5. Insert the lead edge of thepaper between the upperand lower feed rollers.

6. Rotate the lower feed rollerby hand in order to feed aninch of paper between thefeed rollers.

7. Push the drawer in until itis closed and latched.

1. Pull to open the topdrawer, middle drawer, andManual Bypass Shelf.

2. Remove any media fromthe inside of the printer.

3. Push the drawers andManual Bypass Shelf intothe closed and latchedposition.

4. Reload the media on theManual Bypass Shelf, curlside down.

7. Roll 3 only: Rotate thelower feed roller until thelead edge is visible in thecenter of the viewing hole.

8. Push the drawers andManual Bypass Shelf intothe closed and latchedposition.

6. Insert the lead edge of thepaper between the upperand lower feed rollers andfeed an inch of paperbetween the feed rollers.

1. Open the Manual BypassShelf and all three drawersin order to locate the jam.

2. Rewind the jammed rolluntil the lead edge of thepaper comes out of thefeed rollers.

4. If you are unable to rewindthe jammed roll easily,gently loosen the jamthrough the opening at therear of the Manual BypassShelf.

5. Remove any scraps or tornpieces of paper from theinside of the printer.

6. Trim the lead edge of theroll squarely to remove anytorn or wrinkled paper.

1. Open the right side door. 2. Turn the green lockinglever to the left in order torelease the InnerTransport.

6. Turn the green lockinglever, lift and raise theInner Transport until itlatches securely in theclosed position.

7. Close the right side door.

3. Push down to lower theInner Transport andremove any jammedpaper.

4. If paper has not been cut,rotate the green cutterknob one turn in theclockwise direction in orderto cut the paper.

5. Turn the cutter knob untilthe notch on the base ofthe shaft is aligned with thegreen marking at the nineo’clock (270 degree)position.

CAREReplacing the Toner CartridgeToner cartridges are suppliedas part of a kit, which containseight toner cartridges, fourtoner waste containers, andthree oil pads. The tonercartridges are packed insidethe toner waste containers,two to a container.When the first of the two tonercartridges in each container isused, the toner wastecontainer should also bereplaced. (Refer to Replacingthe Toner Waste Container.)Store the second tonercartridge in a cool, dry placeuntil it is required.

3. Pull down on the left end ofthe toner supplymechanism and removethe cartridge.

5. Install the cartridge into thetoner supply mechanismwhile keeping the sealedopening on the upper sideof the cartridge.

9. Close the right side cover.10. Dispose of the cartridge

properly. Seal the openingof the cartridge with tapeor put the cartridge in aplastic bag beforediscarding.

CAREReplacing the Toner Waste ContainerThis printer does not have amechanism for detecting a fulltoner waste container. Theprinter is designed to operatecorrectly if the toner wastecontainer is replaced after twotoner cartridges have beenused up.The toner waste containershould be replaced at thesame time that the first of thetwo toner cartridges, which arepacked in each container, isinstalled.Remove the second tonercartridge from the containerand store it in a cool, dry placeuntil it is required.

1. Open the right side cover. 2. Move the retainer upwardand out of the way.

3. Gently move the top of thewaste container outwardand remove the containerfrom the printer. Take careto avoid spilling any of thecontents.

4. Install a new wastecontainer in the printer.Align the containeropening with the wastetoner tube in the printer.

5. Lower the retainer tosecure the wastecontainer.

6. Close the right side cover.7. Dispose of the waste

container properly. Sealthe opening of thecontainer with tape or putthe container in a plasticbag before discarding.

CAREReplacing the Oil PadsThree oil pads, which applysilicone oil to the surface ofthe fuser roll, are locatedunder the fuser cover. The oilpads are packed as part of thetoner and supplies kit, whichalso contains eight tonercartridges and four tonerwaste containers.The oil pads should bereplaced at the same time thatthe first of the eight tonercartridges is used in theprinter.

WARNINGSwitch the printer off andallow the fuser to cool for 15minutes before replacing theoil pads.Avoid contact with face oreyes and wipe/wash yourhands thoroughly afterhandling.

5. Lay the corotron on a flatsurface to expose thecorotron wires forcleaning.

6. Clean the corotron wiresusing a lint-free clothdampened with water.

7. Rub the wires gently fromend to end until most ofthe toner is removed.

8. Turn the corotron over andclean the wire(s) on theother side.

9. Allow the corotron to drybefore replacing.
