You might have 2 rounds. For tech interview my sincere advice is that BE THOROUGH WITH YOUR BRANCH SUBJECTS! Out of the 4 computer subjects(c, c++, ds and rdbms) prepare any one thoroughly and atleast the basics of other 3. For HR interview prepare some general ques like:1. Tell me about yourself2. Strength and weakness3. Why TCS4. Why IT (for non-stream students)5. Where you see yourself after 5 years6. Hobbies and interests7. Your idol and why INTERVIEW TIPS-  1. Dress properly2. ALWAYS have a smile on your face3. Be confident and enthusiastic4. ALWAYS be polite and humble5. NEVER bluff. If you don’t know something tell them politely6. ALWAYS try to lead the interview7. During tech interview, ALWAYS explain them the concept. This will also show them your communication skill.8. NEVER EVER argue with the interviewer So friends, BEST OF LUCK for your campus recruitment. BE CONFIDENT AND YOU WILL MAKE IT!

WRITTEN TEST :( ONLINE TEST)  Contains 3 sections

1)      Verbal (Synonyms – Antonyms - Comprehension Passages)2)      Quantitative Aptitude3)      Critical Reasoning

 SECTION-1(Verbal- 30 questions - 20 min)      Synonyms (Refer In GRE BARRONS 12th Edition )

Antonyms (Refer In GRE BARRONS 12th Edition (page no -126))       Passage completion

  Some of the previous questions in quant .Go through these models and try to solve them. They will give same models but they change the data. SECTION: 2(QUANT- 38 questions - 40 min )  1) If log 0.317=0.3332 and log 0.318=0.3364 then find log 0.319 =Sol: Given log 0.317=0.3332 and log 0.318=0.3364Then Log 0.319=log0.318+ (log0.318-log0.317) =0.3396  2) A box of 150 packets consists of 1kg packets and 2kg packets. Total weight of box is 264kg. How many 2kg packets are there?Sol: Given x= 2 kg Packs y= 1 kg packs  => x + y = 150     .......... Eqn 1 => 2x + y = 264   .......... Eqn 2 On solving these two equations x = 114 By using equation 1 114 + y = 150 => y = 36 =>Number of 2 kg Packs = 114.  3) My flight takes of at 2am from a place at 18N 10E and landed 10 Hrs later at a place with coordinates 36N70W. What is the local time when my plane landed?a) 6:00 am b) 6:40am c) 7:40 d) 7:00 e) 8:00 Sol: (Hint: Every 1 deg longitude is equal to 4 minutes. If west to east add time else subtract time) Ans: 8:00

 4) A Flight takes off at 2 A.M from northeast direction and travels for 11 hours to reach the destination, which is in northwest direction. Given the latitude and longitude of source and destination. Find the local time of destination when the flight reaches there?

Ans: 7 AM (or) 1 PM

 5) A moves 3 kms east from his starting point. He then travels 5 kms north. From that point he moves 8 kms to the east. How far is A from his starting point? Ans: 13 kms  6) Aeroplane is flying at a particular angle and latitude, after some time latitude is given. (8 hrs later), u r asked to find the local time of the place.

7) An Aeroplane starts from A (SOME LATITUDE IS GIVEN ACCORDING TO PLACE).At 2 AM local time to B (SOME LATITUDE). Traveling time is 10 Hours. What is the local time of B when it reaches B?

8) A plane moves from 9°N40°E to 9°N40°W. If the plane starts at 10 am and takes 8 hours to reach the destination, find the local arrival time. Sol: Since it is moving from east to west longitude we need to add both Ie, 40+40=80 Multiply the ans by 4  =>80*4=320min Convert this min to hours i.e., 5hrs 33min It takes 8hrs totally. So 8-5hr 30 min=2hr 30min So the ans is 10am+2hr 30 min Ans: 12:30 it will reach  9) The size of the bucket is N kb. The bucket fills at the rate of 0.1 kb per millisecond. A programmer sends a program to receiver. There it waits for 10 milliseconds. And response will be back to programmer in 20 milliseconds. How much time the program takes to get a response back to the programmer, after it is sent?Sol: The time being taken to fill the bucket. After reaching program it waits there for 10ms and back to the programmer in20 ms. then total time to get the response is 20ms +10 ms=30ms Ans: 30ms  10) A file is transferred from one location to another in ‘buckets’. The size of the bucket is 10 kilobytes. Eh bucket gets filled at the rate of 0.0001 kilobytes per millisecond. The transmission time from sender to receiver is 10 milliseconds per bucket. After the receipt of the bucket the receiver sends an acknowledgement that reaches sender in 100 milliseconds. Assuming no error during transmission, write a formula to calculate the time taken in seconds to successfully complete the transfer of a file of size N kilobytes. Ans: (n/1000)*(n/10)*10+ (n/100).... (Not 100% sure)

Microprocessor is an electronic computer Central Processing Unit (CPU) made from miniaturized transistors and other circuit elements on a single semiconductor Integrated Circuit (IC). Before the advent of microprocessors, electronic CPUs were made from individual small-scale Integrated Circuits containing the equivalent of only a few transistors.

By integrating the processor onto one or a very few large-scale Integrated Circuit packages (containing the equivalent of thousands or millions of discrete transistors), the cost of processor power was greatly reduced. The evolution of microprocessors has been known to follow Moore's Law when it comes to steadily increasing performance over the years.

This law suggests that the complexity of an Integrated Circuit with respect to minimum component cost will double in about 18 months. From humble beginnings as the drivers for calculators, the continued increase in power has led to the dominance of microprocessors over every other form of computer; every system from the largest mainframes to the smallest handheld computers now uses a microprocessor at their core. .As with many advances in technology, the microprocessor was an idea wbose time had come. Three projects arguably delivered a complete microprocessor at about the same time: Intel's 4004, Texas Instruments' TMS1000, and Garrett AiResearch's Central Air Data Computer.

A computer-on-a-chip is a variation of a microprocessor, which combines the microprocessor core (CPU), some memory, and I/O (input/output) lines, all on one chip. The proper meaning of microcomputer is a computer using a (number of) microprocessor(s) as its CPU(s), while the concept of the patent is somewhat more similar to a micro controller.

11) Which of the following descriptions would NOT fit a microprocessor? A) Electronic computer B) Central Processing Unit C) Memory disk D) A single integrated chip circuit.

12) Select the TRUE statement from the following. A) Microprocessors and computers on a chip are variations of each other. B) Integration of processing power on chips has made processing power cheaper. C) Before microprocessors, CPUs were not made from individual small scale ICs. D) A microprocessor circuit only has transistors in it.

Directions for Questions 16-20: Read the passage and answer the questions that follow on the basis of the information provided in the passage. Dynamic Link Libraries Windows provides several files called dynamic link libraries (DLLs) that contain collections of software code that perform common functions such as opening or saving a file. When Windows application wants to use one of those functions or routines, the app sends a message to Windows with the names of the DLL file and the function. This procedure is known as calling a function. One of the most frequently used DLLs is Windows COMMDLG.DLL, which includes among others, the functions to display File Open, File Save, Search, and Print dialog boxes.

The application also sends any information the DLL function will need to complete the operation. For example, a program calling the Open File function in COMMDLG.DLL would pass along a file spec, such as *. * or *.DOC, to be displayed in the dialog box's Filename text box. The application also passes along a specification for the type of information it expects the DLL to return to the application when the DLL's work is done. The application, for example, may expect return information in the form of integers, true/false values, or text. Windows passes the responsibility for program execution to the DLL, along with the parameters and the return information the DLL will need. The specific DLL is loaded into memory, and then executed by the processor. At this point the DLL, rather than the application, runs things. The DLL performs all the operations necessary to communicate with Windows and, through Windows, with the PC's hardware. After the DLL function is complete, the DLL puts the return information into memory, where it can be found by the application, and instructs Windows to remove the DLL routine from memory. The application inspects the return information, which usually tells whether the DLL function was able to execute correctly. If the operation was a success, the

application continues from where it left off before issuing the function call. If the operation failed, the application displays an error message.

16) By using DLLs, Windows: A) Saves processing time B) Multitasks C) Shares program code D) Communicates with PCs hardware

17) To use any routine of a DLL, Windows: A) Searches and copies it in the application code and executes it B) Loads the DLL file and searches and executes the routine C) Loads just the required routine in memory and executes it D) Searches the location of the routine and instructs the application to execute it

18) Which information does an application need to passto Windows to use a DLL routine? A) Just the name of the routine B) Just the name of the DLL, which finds in turn the routine to be executed in return C) Both the name of the routine as well as DLL and any parameters D) Name of the DLL, routine, any parameters and type of information to be returned

19) According to the passage, while the DLL routine is executing, the calling application: A) Waits for the routine to execute B) Continues with other tasks C) Helps the DLL routine perform by communicating with Windows and through Windows with the PC's hardware D) Passes all responsibility of program execution to the DLL and is removed from memory

20) The DLL function after execution returns: A) The parameters and information into memory, where it can be inspected by the calling application B) Information into memory, where it can be inspected by the calling application C) To the calling application the information required by it so that it can inspect it D) The information required into memory so that DLL can inspect whether the function operation was a success

Hi friends......I  am Misbahuddin Shamim, pursuing my B-tech from Techno India College Of Technology....and my stream is Information Technology.....I was not having internet connection at my home...then a friend of mine made me realised how important it is for the campussing...u must be wondering why have i started with this??/ coz i know friends that most of you are reading this paper froma cyber cafe...so my very 1st request to you all is that if its possible for you to afford internet connection..then get it done as soon as possible , as it really helped me a lot and it will help u too...it was only due to freshersworld dat i was able to understand the pattern, the important chapters as well as the questions which i have to attempt initially in the aptitude test...it is really v.v.v.v.v.helpful....I m really very much thankful to FRESHERS WORLD..

Naw let me tell you important things to be prepared for accenture:

It has 4 rounds:1) APTITUDE TEST ALONG WITH THAT ESSAY WRITING.2) GROUP DISCUSSION.3) TECHNICAL / HR INTERVIEW.4) HR / TECHNICAL INTERVEW.

1)APTITUDE TEST:Questions = 55 ; time limit = 60 minutes...along with that an essay to write in the same sheet in another 10 minutes...No sectional cut off , no negative marking..

Page 67: xa.yimg.comxa.yimg.com/kq/groups/22663648/193941192/name/TCS.doc · Web view(Now he stoped to ask questions and busy with his Mobile. After few mins I completed programe writing and

questions were easy..all u need to do is planning which questions to attempt first and which one to attempt at last...and yeah 1 more thing ..you have to be very fast and u can achieve dat only through  regular practice..all u have to do is to solve  few chapters from R.S.AGGARWAL ( verbal & Non-verbal as well as quantitaive)..i will suggest you some chapters ...you jus do those chapters properly and it will be more than sufficient for you...

The Aptitude test paper is divided into 3 sections: 1st section :consist of 20 questions which is completely based on english...Questions 1 - 10 : These are very easy..its completly based on prepositions and fill in the blanks with correct articles...if u have a gud command in english then do it in the begining else do it some time later on after solving some easier questions which  will mention later on...

Questions 11 - 20 :questions 11 - 15 contains one comprehension followed by another comprehension from ques 16 - 20... I will suggest you all to do the comprehensions at last.. and attempt the first comprehension before than the second one...coz according to my experience first comprehensions are always easier than the second one...

TIPS : DO THE COMPREHENSIONS AT LAST AND ALWAYS READ THE QUESTIONS FIRST AND THEN LOOK FOR THE ANSWERS IN THE PASSAGE...NEVER WASTE YOUR TIME IN READING THE WHOLE PASSAGE..

2nd section : consists of 20 questions which is based on quantitative as well as verbal and non-verbal...It contains questions from data sufficiency, venn diagram, time and work, percentage, time and distance, directions, blood relations, and the most important topic LOGIC (syllogism) which is the first chapter of the second part of R.S.AGGARWAL (verbal & non-verbal)...prepare these chapters very nicely...

3rd section :  consists of 15 questions which is v.v.v.easy, only a difficult portion can be of puzzle types..questions are like :Q.41- Q.45 Mark the answers according to the following:A- If all the three options matchB- If FIRST and SECOND options matchC- If FIRST and THIRD options matchD- If none of the three match

Example:KKTUJNGDFTSR       KKTUJHGDFTSR     KKTUJNGDFTSRAns: C

Another example:1896.5738491023    1896.5783491023    1896.5738461023

Page 68: xa.yimg.comxa.yimg.com/kq/groups/22663648/193941192/name/TCS.doc · Web view(Now he stoped to ask questions and busy with his Mobile. After few mins I completed programe writing and

Ans: D

Q.46-Q.49 were based on the Puzzle-type question. It said:Following was the criteria decided by the selection committee of Indian Cricket Board:1) Player's age should be 18-28 years2) He must be the captain of any cricket team for at least 2 years3) He must be a Ranji Player for at least 2 years4) He must have taken at least 20 wickets or made 1000 runs in a calendar year in Ranji

If 1st condition is not fulfilled .. referred to chairmanIf 2nd condition is not fulfilled .. he must be an all rounder with at least 500 runs and 15 wicketsIf 4th condition is not fulfilled .. referred to VP

Questions were like following example:Rahul was born on Dec.10,1979 and is a captain of Ranji team since Feb 2005. He won man of the tournament last year for taking 24 wickets last year. He is:a) Selected       b) Rejected     c) Referred to Chairman   d)Data InsufficientAns: a(These questions are also easy if you draw a table with names of the aspirant in rows and criteria in the columns, and then checking whether he/she fulfils it or not)

Q.50- Q.55 were also a bit easy and were of two types:Example of type 1:If * means +, + means -, - means / and / means *, then what is the value of-8+4-9*7/12+3

Example of type 2:If * means /, / means -, - means + and + means *, then which of the following is true:a) 7+43*2/13-7+8 = 22.6        b) 4-9*7/4*2/3-7+2 = 25 ..   ..

(The type 1 are easier and less time consuming and type 2 are more time consuming but still can be solved. 3 of the questions were of type1 and other 3 of type two)..

NOTE: Friends i will suggest you all to start with this section...first do the question 41 - 45 and then do the questions from 50 - 52...and then do whatever u like....coz these questions are v.v.v.v.easy..and so u will gain lots of confidence after solving these 8 questions..if u can then solve the ques 53 - 55 also else leave it for later on as it is very much time consuming...

IMPORTANT CHAPTERS TO BE DONE FOR THE APTITUDE TEST:

FOR ACCENTURE EMPHASIZE MORE ON VERBAL & VON-VERBAL RATHER THAN QUANTITAVE...

Page 69: xa.yimg.comxa.yimg.com/kq/groups/22663648/193941192/name/TCS.doc · Web view(Now he stoped to ask questions and busy with his Mobile. After few mins I completed programe writing and

VERBAL AND NON-VERBAL :1) LOGIC (syllogism).2) DATA SUFFICIENCY.3) LOGIACL VENN DIAGRAM.4) DIRECTION SENSE TEST.5) BLOOD RELATIONS.6) PUZZLE TEST.

QUANTITATIVE :1) TIME AND WORK.2) TIME AND DISTANCE.3) RATIO AND PROPORTION.4) PERCENTAGE.5) PROBLEMS ON TRAINS.6) BOATS AND STREAMS.7) PIPES AND CISTERNS.8) PROFIT AND LOSS.

Do only these chapters which i have mentioned ....its more than sufficient...and yaeh once again emphasize more on verbal and non-verbal rather than quantitative...coz 70% are from verb&non-verb and 30% are from quanti....in comparision to these two...

After the completion of 60 minutes we were asked to write an essay in 10 minutes time and word limit was atleast 100 words and the topic was "US recession and its impact in the IT industry"....dont bother about the essay much, just make it sure that u have to fill that page with correct grammatical statements...it does not play an role in clearing ur aptitude...it is checked by the HR usually during ur HR interview and it may happen that no one bother to check  it also...

2) GROUP DISCUSSION : The topic which was given to us was "liberalisation"... time limit was 10 minutes...12 students were there in a group, a topic was thrown and you all have to share your views regarding that given topic...they selected only 5 students from each group of 12...so you can see that you have to give ur best effort and you wont get much chance to speak also coz it so happens sometimes that they make the GD go by person to person clockwise..

TIPS : Initially they may ask you to introduce urself...and u have to hit in this very moment only ..ur introduction shud be very strong...then u will 2 - 3 chances to speak on the topic.....friends u have to be louder and clear during your GD...with full of passions...

3) HR INTERVIEW :Questions were like: Tell me sumthing about yourself which is not there in the CV...then what do u do in your leisure time...then how can you prove that you have managerial skills...and then few questions were asked which was related to my answers...i m not writng all those things coz answers vary from person to person...all i wanna say is dat u

Page 70: xa.yimg.comxa.yimg.com/kq/groups/22663648/193941192/name/TCS.doc · Web view(Now he stoped to ask questions and busy with his Mobile. After few mins I completed programe writing and

need to be very much confident during your interview, there should be smile on your face, eyes contact with the HR is a must...

4) TECHNICAL INTERVIEW : First of all HR asked me to introduce myself...then he asked me what do u do in your leisure time..then he asked me what are your favourite subjects...then he gave me a program and asked me 2 answer hm whether this program will run or not...then he told me dat i m giving u 16 seconds..u have to sell urself...then he gav me some situation reaction test which i answered wonderfully...

In situation reaction test they just want to see how good you are as a leader as well as a team member and how hard working , determined and confident you are...

FINALLY, I WANT TO TELL U THE STATISTICS....899 STUDENTS APPEARED.....266 CLEARED THE APTITUDE...115 CLEARED THE GD....AND AT LAST ONLY 41 WERE SHORTLISTED AFTER THE TECHNICAL AND HR INTERVIEW....AND I M REALLY GLAD TO SAY THAT I AM AMONG ONE OF THEM...................FRIENDS!!!! ONE THING I WOULD LIKE TO SAY REGARDING THE PLACEMENT OF ACCENTURE....... THAT " YOU HAVE TO BE CONSISTENTLY CONSISTENT ".......WISH U AL DA VERY BEST AND HOPE TO SEE YOU AT ACCENTURE...

L&T INFOTECH PAPER ON 19th MARCH AT  BHUBANESWAR

Hi friends....myself  KUNAL from Jagannath Institute for technology & management, paralakhemundi. Now i m in 6th sem...here i m going to tell about my experience about that placement drive. this was my second company bcoz i was not eligible for INFOSYS due to some new conditions. I was very shocked due to this and frankly speaking i had not a good preparation for this drive. I decided not 2 attend the drive but my girlfriend and my elder sister forced me to attend the drive. Around 1300+ candidate  attended the drive.

Page 71: xa.yimg.comxa.yimg.com/kq/groups/22663648/193941192/name/TCS.doc · Web view(Now he stoped to ask questions and busy with his Mobile. After few mins I completed programe writing and

There were 3 rounds..1. Written test2.  Group discussion3.  Personal Interview

Written test:It was consist of three sections.1. Aptitude(30 quest)2. Reasoning(30 quest)3. English(30 quest)

Aptitude section was a little bit tough. I didn't prepared well for this section but anyhow i managed to do this portion. My suggestion is to refer R.S.AGGARWAL for this section. It is just more than enough...but u need to be conscious towards time management as there was sectional and overall cutoff.

Reasoning was the portion which was positive point 4 me as i prepared it in a nice manner for INFOSYS. Again u go through VERBAL & NON-VERBAL REASONING BY R.S.AGGARWAL....Try to complete this portion in short while of time bcoz all the question will be easy..

English eas in between the two...not so easy..not so hard...4 synonyms were there which were as usual tough. Then two passages were der...which u should do in the last coz it is an easy part.. Regarding english i will say that if u have a good background of english then it will be a plus point for u...

Around 5:30 p.m. results for the written test were declared. Around 550+ cleared the written test and i was one of them.

Group Discussion:After the results of written test 47 batches for GD were formed...In each batch 12 students were present..I was in batch no:31...Aroound 7p.m. we were called for the GD...we suggested the topic LIVE IN RELATIONSHIP....but the HR changed the topic by LOVE MARRIAGE Vs. ARRANGED MARRIAGE..

So..u be prepared with 2-3 topic of your own...our discussion went in a nice manner...and finalle i emerged as the leader...that was a positive sign for me..so friends..for GD keep u need to be a good communicator..u need to keep your points in a clear manner with in a short while of time..

Around 9:30p.m. results were declared...selection was very tough as they were selecting maximum 4 from a group...from our group 4 were selected and again i made it..

After results documents verification were done and we were said to report at 8;00 a.m. sharp by next day...

Page 72: xa.yimg.comxa.yimg.com/kq/groups/22663648/193941192/name/TCS.doc · Web view(Now he stoped to ask questions and busy with his Mobile. After few mins I completed programe writing and

Interview:we were knowing that PI will be held but they changed the programme and they converted PI into Group interview...In my group 12 members were der..Around 9:30 a.m. we were called for the interview...it was a HR interview only...general HR questio wer easked from us....when my turn came i thought that if i could represent myself in a nice manner for 10 minutes my life will be changed....HR: From where u are?Me: told..HR: About family background.Me: toldHR: are you willing to work anywhere?ME: told..HR:what is your position in your class?Me:told..Hr: then questions from summer training.. if any(not technical)Me: told about my training.HR:then he asked some questions about hobbies...Me:told in detail(be prepared for lot of questions from this part)HR: do u know anyone in L&T?Me: i told about my school senior who was working in L&T for 3 yrs.HR: finally he said..if u have any questions>Me:do u neet to go for some additional training to be fit in L&T?HR: replied in a very nice manner...

Then we had to wait for almost 6 hrs. for the final result...result was cummulative..i.e written+ marks in GD+Interviw......my name was called at 6th position....intially it was unbelievable that i did it...but this was true that i was placed....after the final results..we were called to collect our offr letters...and it was really nice to see your job in your hand....i was overjoyed after the results as i didn't thought that i would get a job in 6th sem bcoz i lost my all hopes due to my yeargap...but it was the blessings of god and of my parents....well wishes from my friends....motivation from my sasmita di...and above all inspiration from my love due to which i was able to do it....

so friends...believe in yourself...don't loose your hopes...just do your job with honesty...definately u can do it...

Wish u all the best.....see u at L&T INFOTECH....

 L & T INFOTECH PAPER ON 21st JANUARY 2008

hey friends ... THIS IS DIXIT MANNAN...currently studying In BCET gurdaspur doing ECE(6th sem) and placed  in L&T infotech... for all those people who r preparing for L&t infotech... i think this information will b helpful for u... it was 21st of jan when i went for my first placement exam..it was sant baba bhag singh college of jalandhar...the reporting time was 10 am...and the exam  started at about 12...

Page 73: xa.yimg.comxa.yimg.com/kq/groups/22663648/193941192/name/TCS.doc · Web view(Now he stoped to ask questions and busy with his Mobile. After few mins I completed programe writing and

Round 1: written Aptitude exam...TOTAL STUDENTS APPEARED : 1000+SHORT LISTED : 190 in written aptitude there were 3 sections....

Section A : it was quantitative aptitude test...there were 30 questions...i think R.S. Aggarwal is more than enough for the test...this part was quiet easy. the important chapters of RS aggarwal for this part are: NUMBERS,TIME AND DISTANCE,PROBABILITY,P&C,BOATS & STREAMS,PROBLEMS ON TRAINS,AVERAGE,RATIO PROPORTION AND GRAPHS AND PIE CHARTS... these topics are more than enough to clear the quantitative...LET ME CLEAR THIS POINT THAT TIME MANAGEMENT IS THE MOST IMPORTANT THING..

Section B: this part was verbal non- verbal reasoning...this part was very confusing...in earlier exams i saw there were some similar type of ques. like if there is ODD MAN OUT then there will b 5 ques. under that topic...but in our exam  i saw all the ques. were of different type...so prepare well for dis part...cover all types from the book... I THINK THIS PORTION MADE THE DIFFERENCE...SO COVER ALL THE TYPES ...

Section C : this portion was English...english was also easy...i think anybody who has cleared 12th exam in english medium can do it,,,only challenging part was Antonyms and Synonyms. the words were like totally unknown...prepare for antonyms and synonyms...IN THE END THERE WAS A PASSAGE...I WAS ALSO OK.. I HAVNT FOLLOWED ANY BOOK  FOR ENGLISH... I THINK THERE IS NO NEED ...JUS GO FOR QUANT AND VERBAL NON VERBAL... THE TRICK FOR DOING APTI IS GO FOR THE QUES. WHICH HAV MULTIPLE PARTS...LIKE FOR ONE PASSAGE U HAVE 5 QUES. OR SOME OTHER TYPE...

we had TOTAL OF 90 QUES. AND 90 MINS TO SOLVE THEM...12 TO 1:30..TIME MANAGEMENT IS VERY IMP. DONT JUS GET STUCK TO ONE PART ONLY..FIRST TRY TO ATTEMPT 20-20 QUES OF EACH PART AS THERE WAS SECTIONAL CUT-OFF...SO BE CAREFUL ABT TIME SO I CONSIDER MYSELF LUCKY THAT I WAS AMONG THOSE 190

ROUND 2: GROUP DISCUSSION...AT ABOUT 6:30 the result for apti was announced...the different groups for GD were announced..i was in 16th group...i was very much affraid of GD but my suggestion will b "Be casual.." Just b urself...they r jus luking for Confidence and team work..dont overpower anybody..jus b cool and calm...give ur points at equal intervals...dont try to b oversmart... Topics were very...jus go thru the current affairs,,,like benazir bhutto,Nano car, india aussie cricket match ets...my topic was India australia sydney test...so i was quiet confident... use SIMPLE ENGLISH...no need to go for hard words,,,be polite and mannered...it was for 15 mins...at about 9:30 pm we were given the result of gd and forms were distributed... that form was like resume...it required ur overall performance...about ur family,school,college...all semesters...extra cullicular acivities etc etc..fill tht form carefully..it shoul match ur resume.. out of 190 students 100 were shortlisted for interview next day...

Page 74: xa.yimg.comxa.yimg.com/kq/groups/22663648/193941192/name/TCS.doc · Web view(Now he stoped to ask questions and busy with his Mobile. After few mins I completed programe writing and

ROUND 3 : INTERVIEW... i came back home as i belong to jalandhar...it was a long long night,,,i was really very tense..coz after clearing those two rounds nobody wants to lose...i woke up at 5 in morning... studied some basics of C++ and java and assembly language prog....i reached there at 10 and interviews started at about 10:30...and my name was at 3rd in the list for inteview.. i was really very nervous for interview... it was the final time now..

1.WRITTEN TEST:

This is the new pattern of IBM. this new pattern has been implemented. it contains 3

sections.

SECTION 1, some information is given in the form of matrices, with headings for rows

as row1,row2 …. Etc.For columns with headings as column1,column 2…. Etc.those

matrices r as follows.

           Column1           column2           column3           column4

Row1       @                    *                      2                      Z

Row2        S                      K                     ?                      $

Row3        I                       P                      Z                      +

Row4       #                      8                      F                      Q

Questions r as follows ( not same questions but same type)

1.if column1 , Column 4 r interchanged and row3 , row4 r interchanged and diagonal

elements from top left to bottom right r  written in reverse order then what is the element

in row1 and column 1?

2.if  Z’s in odd numbered rows r replced with 7’s and S’s in odd numbered columns r

replaced with 5’s then which column elements sum equals to 9?

3.After giving similar type of conditions , what is the element left to H?

In this section they gave around 4 matrices of this type and gave some questions for each

matrix.

Total  No. of  Questions r 15. these r multiple choice questions.5 answers were given for

each question. No negative marks for this section. Time Limit is 13 minutes.

SECTION-2

All questions in this section r from number series. Total number of questions  r 20.time

2. NUMBER SERIES (20 qs  -4 mins-20 marks- negative 1/4)

simple  but v shud b very quick....time is very very very imp 4this section frnds dont get

confused really very simple section and 1more thing is the invigilaor signals time 4 every

30 secs dont feel tensewth tht just go wth ur work..

SECTION-3

Negative marking(1/4) is there for this section.

Analytical type Questions . this secton is little bit tough.u must have practice to do this

section.questions 12.time 15 minutes.Negative marking(1/4) is there for this section.

It contains about . . articles, arranging the senteces in right order and finding errors in the

sentences.

Then after that they will give you the cell phone and . . you have to make a call to the

given no. then enter your TIN(Test Identification No.) provided by them

This is the most important round and the most of the guys had been eliminated from this

round only.Be careful and sit at the place where the external noise inference is too less.

1st round - "Read the sentences"

u'll be given a paper which contain 10-12 sentences in english.

u'll be asked to read the sentences like "Read the sentence no 6..."

there will be 8-9 sentences to read. (easiest round)

2nd round - "Repeat the sentences"

The server will say some sentences and u have to repeat them.

The sentences will be in different voices, speed, accent (easy one) Every time when you

move ahead . . the length of the sentences increasing so be careful and attentive.

3rd round - "Make senetence from Jumble words"

The server will pronounce some jumbled words and u have to make senetence from that

U can't add ur own words/articals/adjectives and all to make the sentences. u have to

useonly the senetences pronounced by the server. ( it would be a normal used sentences

like - "eat i daily mango" (Most difficult among all)

4th round - "one word answer"

The server will ask question which u have to reply in one word.

Like... what is the color of milk?

What is frozen water called?       (ICE)

Which is faster:cat or worm?       (CAT)

Which is thinner:finger or leg?    (FINGER)

how many weeks r there in a year?   (52)

how many minutes r there in 1 and a half hr?   (90)

What do u wear when u go out in cold:sweater or shirt?   (SWEATER)

How many eggs are there in a dozen?    (12)

If you are going out for lunch with your mother, who are you:daughter or sister?

(DAUGHTER)

Which is smaller castle or cottage?   (COTTAGE)

Afternoon comes before or after lunch?   (BEFORE)

trees have more no. of branches or trunks?   (BRANCHES)

how many months are there in two years?   (24)

U see with ur eyes or ears?   (EYES)

the whole process will take 10-12 min. The accent will be of US, UK , Australia . The

problem people face is understanding the sentences. The questions are very easy to

answer but u have to catch what the server is saying.

The the interview . .for the name sake only . .They will ask you only .. that HR questions.

Best of Luck . . to you all !!

IBM PAPER ON 30th OCTOBER 2008

Hi friends,  Its sumit (mca) frm Kalyani Govt. Engg. College (WB) On 30-09-2008 IBM visited our campus

MCAtotal no. of stud :85                 26Apti qualified  :26                   14GD qualified    :22                  13Final selection:  9                      5 (rest 2 each frm B.tech & M.tech)

Yes u saw it right .the accent test was not there.(we also came to know only on that day).

But b prepared, it was there in some of the colleges.

One more surprising thing-all the 9 students selected were boys.

1.pptit started at abt 10:00 am. it was nothing new , just old things only, but concentrate it may help u during ur interview.

2. Aptitude test

SECTION 1: matrix test (15 ques  ,13 min .no –ve marks)3 matrices were given- 5 ques on each matrix.(total 15 ques).

It was all of similar type, u must hav got it frm other papers. The important thing is b fast; don’t waste time on any one question.

SECTION 2: series test (20 ques .4 mins .1/4 –ve marking)

Ques were v.v easy .BUT u have to b fast, if at the first or the second look u solve it .its good else leave it. None of us could attempt all the questions(I did 13 or 14 of that)

SECTION 3: this section is tough. U must practice to do this section. (12 ques 15 min. ¼-ve marking).

Most of the ques were from time and work, one was from ratio-proportion. u  can get the ques from other papers, I exactly don’t remember the data.(after the series test ur mindset will b to solve the ques in a hurry, but b cool, read the questions completely then start solving)

(I stood third in the aptitude test, first was also a mca student,he was also selelcted, but 4th (mca)& 5th (mca) were not selected).

3.It was a GD round

My topic was “primary education is more important  than higher education”. it was cool. no tension. Everybody from my group was selected.(8 candidates).

The topics of other groups were: “cricket VS Olympic” & “Engineers should not go outside to work” (it was nothing but a new version of “Brain Drain”).

4. INTERVIEW (tech +hr)

There were 3 members. one of them was the head of the selection team(H). one was a madam (M) .and the third was a sir (S).

Firstly they asked me for my cv.

Page 81: xa.yimg.comxa.yimg.com/kq/groups/22663648/193941192/name/TCS.doc · Web view(Now he stoped to ask questions and busy with his Mobile. After few mins I completed programe writing and

I thought they want to see it ,so I just opened my  file and gave it to the madam(M) .but they told me to take it out .i had 2more copies of my cv at the back of my file, I just took out one of them and gave it to the madam.

For some time madam went through my file, and the   H was going through the cv I had just  given

* so friends ,always keep 2-3 copies of ur cv.*

The first and the obvious question was “tell me something abt yourself”.

Me> started telling whatever I had prepared.Madam>interrupting me , tell me something which is not in ur cv.Me>started telling abt my family, friends, my hobbies, my strengths, weaknesses etc.

Somewhere in between I had told that I never panic.H>if now only I say u to go out of this room, won’t u panic?Me>(hardly 5 mins had passed, and this sort of question, it was exciting as well as nerve-shaking) They were smiling, I was also smiling, I confidently proved them that I wont panic, but it will b sad that u didn’t judge me and even this reaction will b outside this room.(they were satisfied).H> ok tell me –what is dbms?Me>answered it .H>what is Rdbms?Me> answered it.H>examples of dbms and rdbmsMe>gave the examples.H>ok suppose we don’t know anything abt RDBMS, teach us Rdbms.Me>(now the ball was in my court).i started telling abt the relation, primary &  foreign keys, Cartesian product, all types of joins, union ,intersection etc.and why it is called RDBMS.H>what were ur subjects of 4th sem?Me>this was the question I had prepared, but I don’t know how did I forget that.i could tell only three of them.(trick—tell anything with a little sense , they also don’t know exactly)H> ok ,Do u know ,what is DDL,DML?Me>answered it confidently.H>are u comfortable with GROUP BY and HAVING.Me>yes sir .H> he gave me a relation(emp_id,dept_no) and another relation (dept_no,no_of_emp) as output (u must hav understood the problem,it was to find –how many employees were there in each dept)Me>worte the SQL.H>now do some amendment in the command so that the output does not contain the no. of employees of dept 1 .Me>wrote it .H>are u sure it will do?Me>I feel so.

Now it was the turn of sir(S).S> are u comfortable with c,c++Me>much more than dbms (they smiled).S> what is void pointer?Me>in my answer I also added that it cannot b dereferenced.S> is it that under any condition, it cannot b dereferenced?or we can do it under some condition.Me>(thought for a few seconds)as far as I know ,it cannot b .S> ok what are the difference between array and link list?Me>I explined them by drawing figures, explining the adv. and disadv.(I was satisfied with my ans and I feel they were also satisfied).H>what is fopen () ?Me>answered it .H> what are the different modes of opening a file.Me> answered.H>Are u familiar with UNIX or LINUX?Me>yes sir, UNIX was one of the subjects in my 2nd sem.but for this interview I have not prepared this.H>ok sumit, no problem, whatever u know u say.what is rwx?Me>I answered it .then he asked abt “group”.  (without thinking , I said)Sorry sir I don’t remember(lator on I realized ,

Page 82: xa.yimg.comxa.yimg.com/kq/groups/22663648/193941192/name/TCS.doc · Web view(Now he stoped to ask questions and busy with his Mobile. After few mins I completed programe writing and

he asked abt  the user group, actually  as I had not prepared unix for this interview, my mind got stuck---so  one simple addice is --think for sometime then ans) H>ok no problem.Me>(suddenly ,it came to my mind) I answered it .M>May I ask u operating  system?Me>yes madam.M> what is busy waiting?Me>I explained it elaborately with the help of pen and paper.M>next ,she asked me a term ,which I had never heard of.Me>sorry mam I have never heard it before.M> ok no problem. what is binary semaphore?Me>I explained, I also starting writing the codes of critical section problem, but she told ok understood.M> what is Belady’s anomaly?Me>I just explained it.H> did u sit for TCS?Me> no sir , my marks was not there.(through 60%,actually I lack in my graduation)H>asked me the reason of less marks.Me>explained it.H>suppose u are selected for any company, IBM or any other company, then u will gate abt 1 year. what 3 things u will do before joining? Me> I said ,1st of  all I will collect info abt the company, on which softwares the company works for that I will also consult my seniors.[before telling the 2nd  and 3rd things (which I had no idea of) madam interrupted, I really thank her for interrupting]M>now a days most of the companies work on a lot of software- java, SAP, J2SE,C# etc. so how many of them are u going to learn, and suppose u have learnt one thing and u are given work on some other software, then what will happen?Me>I will start learning the one which I feel will be most interesting for me .and if at all I don’t get a chance to work on that software, no problem, my learning will not b a wastage  that is going to benefit me in some or the other way. Moreover, life is always a challenge, if I m told to work on a software that is new to me, no problem, I will learn it.H>ok sumit do u have any question?Me>(I had prepared 2 -3 questions )what will be my day to day responsibilities ? ( I had never expected the answer  he told me)H>”work”.Me>what sir?H>”work”.tell me anything u will do except “work” (madam started laughing , I was also smiling)Me> sir , whatever I will do ,that comes under “work”.H>that’s why I told “work”.Me> “work” yes I m going to do that , it is my duty but is it my responsibility?H> ok ,just I m adding something “doing work”. now this becomes a responsibility. (madam starting laughing, I too was smiling)* I think all these things were just to check ur   confidence, just b calm and enjoy talking to them*H>why r u not wearing tie?Me>sir, I don’t have, that’s why .H>that is not the reason, I have many ties then also I m not wearing it.Me>sir I belive that u all have come here to see my qualites not the(he interrupted by saying “not the quality of ur tie”)  and everybody started laughing (me too). H>yes that is the answer.H>ok u can leave now .(they gave me the cv)Me>thank u sir.

That’s all .I was very nervous, I felt I could have done better in HRsection. Lastly, the results were declared at  abt 7:20 pm and  thank god I got selected.

Best of luck to all of u. bbye .see u in IBM.

SATYAM PAPER ON 1st FEBRUARY AT NAGPUR

Page 83: xa.yimg.comxa.yimg.com/kq/groups/22663648/193941192/name/TCS.doc · Web view(Now he stoped to ask questions and busy with his Mobile. After few mins I completed programe writing and

Hi friends!! Just have a smiling face, full confidence, sanguine attitude and success will be surely yours. This year Satyam had conducted only written test and interview. There was no G.D.

Written TestQ.1). It was related to finding the average weight of the students. In the question, there was given average weight of the students in three different classes:Section P-around 48 kg.Q-around 45 kg.R-around 50 kg.

Other than this, the total no. of students in section Q was also mentioned. It was around Q=((25*R)/100)+R) as far as I remember. And question was to find the average weight of all the students. I don-no xact ansr ‘coz I didn’t attempt it.

Q.2).It was purely a mathematical problem. The equation that I got after solving the given situation had two unknowns.Hence, it appeared to be somewat twisted. But those two variables were also interrelated.Ot was sumwat like S=(2Ax) +x2  -(B/4)Where S=2x. & A,B were constants. It was xtrememly simple.

Q.3)Again an easy one. Some age problem or it was sumthing like that. But it was purely mathematical & again very very easy.An equation had to be formed & the answer was there.

Q.4).It was some pasage. So I didn’t solve it bcoz it appeared to be too time consuming.

Q.5).Again a lengthy one.But it was not a passage. It was like that some rules & regulations of U.S. Anti Terror team were mentioned  and  the  question  also  mentioned  about  an  organization  which  was  trying  to  fight  the  terrorists.Based on the  passage  given  were  four  different  points(sentences)  for  choice and  we  were  supposed  to  choose  that  option  which  would  most  correctly  prove  the  arguement.

Q.6).A program(more precisely an algo) was given in the following manner:-10 R=2.20 R=R+2.30 K=K+R.40 J=K+2.50 If(J>sumthing)

don’t remember further, but no initial value of ne of the variables was mentiond there. & we were supposed to choose, among the options, the WRONG output. I wonder how can there be one wrong output & three different correct outputs. But  still  that  was  what  the  problem  was &  I  dind’t  attempt  it.

Now I don’t remember the further questions bcoz I must have solved   & attempted  them. M unable to recollect ques from 7 to 11, but most of them, I  remember,  were  purely  mathematical  where  you  hav  to analyse  the  given  situation,  from  an  equation,  solve  that  equation &  get  the  answer.

Page 84: xa.yimg.comxa.yimg.com/kq/groups/22663648/193941192/name/TCS.doc · Web view(Now he stoped to ask questions and busy with his Mobile. After few mins I completed programe writing and

Q.12).Problem was basically on either Work & energy  or  on  Time  Distance.

Q.13).Based on  a  pie  chart.  Though  it  appeared  complicated  but  in  fact  it  was  very  very  easy.Every  answer  ia  alwayz  given  there  inj  the  pie  chrt  itself. The  only  thing  is  how  do  you  apply  brain  7  find  the  answer.

The  pie  chart showed  the  percentage  distribution  of  some  commodities,  &  we  were  supposed  to  find  the  dimensions  of  a  new  pie  chart  for  another  given  prcentage  distribution  of  commodities.

So  the  question  was  inference  based  &  not  purely  fact  based. But  then  the  inference that  you  draw  depends  totally  upon  the  facts  given  in  the  pie  chart,  dear  guys !!

q.14).ome three  different  graphs  mentioning  about  population  were  given  &  this  time  thye  ques.  was  not  inference  based  but  purely  fact  based.

Q.15). It was extremely   simple.  It  was  an  upstream  downstream  problem  that  we  ppl  used  to  solve  in  linear  eqtions  in  about  7th std.

So  frnds  that  was  all  about  the apti. I got  thru  the  apti  &  my  intrview  was  on  the  next  day  2nd  of  Feb.

My  interview  experince  was  just  fantastic.  From  the  time  I  entrd  the  intrvw  rooom   to  the  time  I  exited  I  maintained   total  eye  contact, had  full  confidence  and  presented   my  best  self  forward  with  an  impressive  +ve  attitude.

A total  of  200  students  were  finally  selected  fron  a  total  of  1200  that  appeared  for  the  drive &  I  got  thru  d  ntire  process  2  b  1  of  them.

When  I  entered  the  interview room  the  interviwer  sir  seemed  to  be  extremely  busy  mending  up  some  old  records  of  the  previous  candidates. I  took  permission  &  entered  the  room. Still  sir  wasn’t  looking  at  me  but  I  maintianed  full  eye  contact.I  said “Warm Good evening to u Sir !!”)  it  was  around  7:15  p.m. Still  sir  was  very  busy. With  his  eyes  into  the  documents  he  said “God evening”

”May I plz hav  a  seat  sir?”   Sir  said,” yes yes plz sit down”. Still  not  looking  at  me. But  by  this  time,  he was  reading  my  previously  submited  resume  of  mine.

Finally, sir looked  upto  me  &  after  reading  “Computer  Engg(my branch)”  from  my  resume  he  asked  me  about  my  knowledge  in  the  field  of  animation  bcoz  that  happens  to  be  the  latest  trend  in  Computers.

I  said  “ I  hav  heard  that  C++  knowledge  is  very  important  for  for  animation,  though  I  don’t  have  ne  bookish  knowledge  about  animation.

Sir   said  “Do  u  mean  it  can’t  be done  using  C  language?”.    So  I  xplained   all  d  defferences   between  C &  C++  starting  with  “C  is  the  subset  of  C++  .. . . . . . . ”

”Which  languages  have  u  learnt  uptill  now ?”

Page 85: xa.yimg.comxa.yimg.com/kq/groups/22663648/193941192/name/TCS.doc · Web view(Now he stoped to ask questions and busy with his Mobile. After few mins I completed programe writing and

“C  & C++  but  C++  we  r learning  now  in  this  semester.”

”Just  C  &  C++?”

“Yes Sir”  I  said.

Then  sir  paused  &  I  felt  as  if  a  gap is  getting  created. So  I  added  “Sir  we  have  done  Data  Structures  &  Computer Graphics  also  but  that was  also done  C  language  only”.

”Can  u  write  a  C  code  for  opening  a  file  in  output  mode?”. Very  confidently  I  said  “Yes Sir”

Sir  immediately  gave  me   a  blank  paper  &  asked  me  to  write  the  code  saying  “OK  Do  it”  Without  any  pause  I  wrote  the  C  statement   &  said “This  is  the  required   C  code  sir

Sir glared  at  the  C  code  that  I  had  written  &  after  a while  he  said,  “Ok Ankur Ok Thank u.”

“Thank  u  sir  Nice  meeting  u  sir”  I  said  &  walked  out  of  the  interview  room  with  full  confidence.

So,  friends  did  u  get  the  mistake  here ?

The  most  noticeable  thing  here  is  that   there  is  no  mode  as  output  mode  in  C  language. There  r  only  3  modes-Read,Write & Append. So  even  m  amazed  as  to  how  cum  I  got  thru  the  interview. So  I  conclude  that  though    the  questions were  technical  the  interview  was  an  HR  interview. &  seeing my    confidence,  my  attitude,  he  selected me.

Da’s  y  I  said  in  d  beginning  itself- Just  Be  confident,  maintain  eye  contact,  have  a  +ve  attitude,  show  ur  interest  in  the  company &  success  is  surly  urs. Wish  U  all  the  very  very  Best  of  LUCk !

SATYAM PAPER ON 26th MARCH AT KANPUR Hello!! my name is Sudhanshu Porwal. Currently I am in my 6th semester. This website helped me a lot to get through the process and I think, I would be glad if I can contribute a bit from my side too. Some 1000 candidates appeared..out of which 251 were selected for the second round. Some of the questions that I recall, though not perfectly, are…  1. What is the cost of covering the walls of a room with paper, given following information : (a) length, width and height of the room is  50,35 and 45 mts. respectively. (b) there is only one door of size 3x2 mts.  Which of the following options is correct to find answer to this question: A. Sentence 1 is sufficient but Sentence 2 alone is not sufficient. B. Sentence 2 is sufficient but Sentence 1 alone is not sufficient. C. Sentence 1 and 2 are sufficient. D. BOTH sentences are not sufficient. E. None of these. Ans. D

2. Some arithmetic series, i don remember. 3. Some question based on Assertion n Reasoning, too lengthy so I don’t remember this either. 4. a pyramid question.. something like..                          ?

   956    956         123     111    123     20      16        16        20  3        2          1          2         3 The number at ? mark has to be found out.

5. If the compound interest on a sum for 2 years at 12.5% per annum is Rs.510, the simple interest on the same sum at the same rate for the same period of time is : a. Rs.400       b.Rs.450        c.Rs.460         d.Rs.480 Ans: d  6. If a boat goes upstream with a speed of U km/h and downstream with a speed V km/h, what will be speed of boat in still water?  Ans. (U+V)/2  7. If a clock loses 27% time in first seven days and gains 31% in next seven days, what will be the correct time exactly after two weeks if clock was initially set to 12 noon .  8. If 5 litres of mixture of x water and y spirit are mixed with 10 litres of m water and n spirit, find the ratio of water and spirit in new mixture. (x,y,m,n are numerical ratios that I cant recall.)

Page 87: xa.yimg.comxa.yimg.com/kq/groups/22663648/193941192/name/TCS.doc · Web view(Now he stoped to ask questions and busy with his Mobile. After few mins I completed programe writing and

9. If the area of a square is 147 sq m. find the radius of the in-circle of that square. Ans. Solution is pretty simple. Area is equal to x*x where x is the side of the square. Once you find x, radius of in-circle is equal to x/2.   10. A question figure series….was tricky…..but solvable with keen observation. 11. A can do a work with probability 1/2, b with 3/9 and c with 6/11.. find probablity that working together they will not do it.

Most of the other questions were comprehensive, long text type, so I can’t recall them. I was able to mark some 8 answers and I reckon, the cutoff was about 5.  Most of the questions were solvable if one has done Quantitative Aptitude by R.S.Agarwal. Make sure, you attempt only those questions which are you damn sure of. Don make too many blind guesses. Usually, the cutoff ranges between 6 to 8 , and attempting 7-9 questions with full confidence will get you in. To  Group Dynamics round

All the 251 candidates were called for GD and PI round to Lucknow . The GD is called not as Group Discussion but Group Dynamics round in Satyam. I hope that tells us, as to what we are supposed to do in that round. The point is not only to speak good on a topic or good communication skills. They count as well as how you behave in the group, giving others a chance, encouraging others, making a space for yourself, emerging as a leader yet being a part of the group.  GD’s were conducted in groups of 10, and lasted for 10 minutes on an average.  In some groups, the moderator briefed the topic and asked each candidate to speak on the topic for a few seconds and then commenced the GD, while in some he invited a candidate to commence the discussion, while in others he rocketed off the discussion straightaway.  My topic was “Terrorism in India ”. We had a pretty good discussion as we had decided to give each other a fair chance and not intercept in between unless the person has not spoken for at least 30-40 seconds. Make sure, that you have a small chit chat with your group before you go into the GD room. This is what I call Pre-GD talk. This will help you get familiar to the members and understand each one before you land directly into the GD.  The discussion was quite good, as we talked not only about the problem of terrorism but also the possible solutions to it. If you are able to speak at least 3 times and give a solid idea in reasonable and good English, you are nearly in. There were a few members who were not involved and waiting for someone to invite

them. I took the lead and got them involved in the discussion which again added to my points.  Out of my group, four candidates got selected including me. Out of 251 candidates, 86 moved on to the Interview round. Some other topics were Are women better managerFive traits a person should have in modern world

GlobalizationMercy KillingMode of Wars

In some groups, the moderator also invited candidates to suggest a topic, so be ready with a good and relevant topic with a supporting line to convey its importance.  Personal Interview Round The Interview was conducted in two batches on two days.  I had mine the very same day in the evening. The interview was Technical+HR but was being taken by a single person. Interviews were conducted in two rooms in parallel due to large group of candidates.  I was interviewed by a South-Indian Technical fellow, and I must say, he was really good and very supportive. Let me write the talk in short.  I knocked and waited for 2 seconds, and then entered the room. Me: May I come in Sir? Interview: Yes. Come in. Me: Good-evening Sir! Interviewer: Good-evening. I handed over my resume and waited beside the chair meant for me. Interviewer: Have your seat. Me: Thank-you Sir. Interviewer: Okay. So you are Sudhanshu. Me: Yes sir. Sudhanshu Porwal. Interviewer: Is that Porwal? (he checked with the pronunciation and I repeated my surname to make it clear. Interviewer: So, you were in my GD today? He was the same person who had inspected over my GD in the day time) Me: Yes Sir. Interviewer: So, How are you feeling? Me: I am feeling good Sir. Thank you. Interviewer: What do you think? Will you be able to make through? Me: I hope to perform my best sir. Rest all depends. Interviewer: Okay. Can you talk about yourself?

Me: Sir my name is…currently pursuing….belong to Kanpur ….family background….hobbies…..love to work…goal oriented blabla.  Interviewer: Okay. good. What do you know about Satyam? (Make sure…you go through the website of Satyam and also….all the related material that you can find. They like it If you have taken the pains to find out about the place you are going to join.  Me: Satyam is a leading company that deals in Computer and IT Services. It covers a wide domain of expertise including Aerospace, Finance and Banking, Medical, ERP etc. Started by Mr.B.Ramalinga Raju in 1987. It also attained SEI CMM level-5….(I was interrupted here)  Interviewer: Do you know what is SEI-CMM? Me: Yes Sir. SEI-CMM stands for Software Engineers Institute Capability Maturity Model. It is used for measuring the quality of process that run in an organization. Started by US Military initially…defined in 5 levels. Initial..Repeatable..Defined..Managed..Optimized. Satyam is level 5 that means it is at optimized level. (I guess He was impressed with the detailed answer I gave.)  Interviewer: Do you know anything about Six-Sigma? Me: Yes Sir. I am sorry I wont be able to tell a lot….but let me share the little info I have. Six sigma is a model used to measure the quality of manufacturing process in industries. It was proposed by some Electronics Scientist in manufacturing of Chips or ICs ..and using this model he was able to bring down the defect levels to below 3.5 in a million. ( I just recalled of something I had read once…and I was not sure whether all of it was correct…..but I guess he was again impressed by the detailed answer I gave)   Interviewer: Okay Sudhanshu. Thank you so much. Me: Thank you Sir. Surprisingly, my interview lasted for hardly 5 minutes. And I wasn’t sure whether  I would be in or not.  But I guess…..my last two answers got me in. There is no standard way….a person may perform in interview. What is most important is Confidence, Courage and Belief in yourself. You need to show what you are. Don’t be boasting but don be shy. Show what you are….and why you should be selected.  This was my first ever company and I am glad I made it through…and now I am a proud Satyamite. I convey my best wishes to all the aspirants wishing to join Satyam. I hope you find my experience useful.  Hoping to see you all in Satyam soon. By,

some of my team members were struggling during the discussing I have managed their inconvenience by agreed their points and started adding my points on it. Some topics can be spoken for or against; in such cases it is better to start with the description about the topic. Don’t interrupt or argue with your team. We were 10 members before entering into GD we all decided not to quarrel with others and allow all of them to talk in 10min. I’m the lucky person because the person who judged our GD session is the one who interviewed me.  He is MR.R.K. SWAMY working in SATYAM Chennai branch at present he got 6 years of experience. Since I have done my GD well it paved the way for my selection.  Some other topics for my friends are, Marriages are made in heaven. Is China better than India in softwareEducation in India ? Are women a better managers? Media  To initiate a GD i.    Quotes ii.    Definition iii.   Facts, Short story iv.   figures and statistics

Summarizing a discussion:1.    Avoid stating only your viewpoint. 2.    Avoid raising new points.3.    Keep it brief and concise. 4.    It must incorporate all the important points that came out during the GD. 5.    If the examiner asks you to summaries a GD, it means the GD has come to an end. 6.    Do not add anything once the GD has been summarized.

Sub-skills:·     Clarity of thought ·     Conflict handling ·     Listening ·     Knowledge about the subject and individual point of view ·     Openness and flexibility ·     decision making

Correct way to proceed·     Speak pleasantly and politely to the group. ·     Respect the contribution of every speaker. ·     Think about your contribution before you speak. How best can you answer the question/ contribute to the topic? ·     Be aware of your body language when you are speaking.

of these. GD: for me it is the easiest, because we have attended a lot of GD’s before and we are fully aware of GD’s. It is cake walk if you have some practice before and able to speak for some time grabbing the chance. Leadership qualities are seen more. Try to give a chance for people who are sitting idle, that’s all it’s a part of leadership quality. Ours GD was a one which takes pace in fish market. We din have ap proper GD,moderator was very angry...Altough i showed the leadership Quality n fortunately i was selected. Our GD topic was “is indian cities ready for any disaster” all of us were againstthe topic and before the end we also covered some positive aspects regarding that and some preliminary measures for those

excellent communication skills, general awareness, to get through this round. U are in an advantageous position if u r a normal leader. But do not try to pretend to be a leader if u r not 1 in true sense. Because in this round everyone pretends to be a leader. And the coordinator easily finds out who has normal leadership qualities and who is trying to be 1. If u r not a leader truly, try and concentrate on the topic more. Bring out interesting and new points out of the topic to increase your chance rather than quarreling with group members to establish yourself as the leader. No matter what the topic is try to analyze the topic by the following few methods. Method 1) KWA approach: key word approach.Method 2) SPELT approach: social, political, economic, legal, technological approach.Method 3) VAP approach: view point of affected persons approach.                    Take any topic into consideration and start jotting down points from today onwards following any of the above few approaches to be successful in this round. DO NOT’S IN A GD:-1.Never take a stance in a gd. 2.Completely ignore the coordinator. 3.Do not play with ur pen/pencil. 4.Do not move your hands/legs too much to indicate ur presence. 5.Never refer to anyone by name even if u know him. 6.Do not try to create a lobby within the group. Just be fair.                   The topics change every year. So no need to memorize points on frequently given topics. Just be aware what’s going on around you and practice discussions. Its ur communication skills, leadership qualities, ability to present yourself in front of others and ur acceptability to others-that’s what is seen in this round.  Round-3 : TECHNICAL & HR. This again depends on the panel u r in. In our case some panel took technical & hr in the same round while some took it in 2rounds. Knowledge in core subjects(for non CSE/IT students), C, C++, DBMS, Data Structures, & operating systems is needed. Apart from these they give a lot of importance in your HR skills. They are very friendly. The atmosphere inside the hall is also very good. But the HR round is a bit tough.
