ASSIGNMENT 2SUBMITTED TO: SIR KAMRAN KHALID
(MBA - 2K14 – B)
NUST Business School
18/05/2015
Issues I faced as a team member in conducting survey for vocabulary list:
As there were two group members under each single team leader, we were assigned to make a list of vocabulary with synonyms. There were two stages for this task as:
This task was assigned to us on 10-05-2015 @ 11:00 p.m. which were to be completed by 15-05-2015 @ 6:00 p.m. (11-05-2015 @ 12:00 a.m. for stage 1, 15-05-2015 @ 6:00 p.m.). The problems we faced at both stages are as:
1- Communication gap2- Objectives were defined lately (Objectives were decided intercourse.)3- Delay in assignment of task4- Deadlines were not clear5- Task was also not much that clear (Changes in task with time )6- Deadlines were not feasible when you assign task at eleventh hour7- Survey procedure was not clear (What to dig out?)8- No motivation at all in whole task (From team leader side to motivate team members)
I am as a team head……
Introduction of new task:
The task for me as a team leader is to conduct a survey on “Preference of entertainment of students in H12 campus“. This task is assign to me to overcome issues which I faced as a team member. My task is to:

Stage 1: Making questions of all the words given to your team and entering explanation through sentences
Stage 2: Generating options through surveys
Assumptions:
Following are the assumptions which are important to conduct survey:
1- Main team with 2 consultants including me to design a survey2- Survey of almost 30 questions3- Sample for survey is of about 800 4- Time for survey is eight working days5- Target for the survey is 10 departments of H12 campus with the coordination of respected sir
with other school’s faculty 6- Two team leaders from each (one male and one female)7- Two team members under each team leader8- Four members in audit team from my batch
Objective:
“To find out what are the preferences of NUST students for entertainment purpose ranging from mobile gadget to outdoor activities.”
Hierarchy:Following is the hierarchy for conducting a survey in H12 campus. I am as a team head design a questionnaire with the help of consultant’s suggestions. Then survey is distributed to 20 team leaders i.e. 2 from each department. These team leaders provide guidance and supervision to their team members i.e. 2 team members under each team leader. There is also a team of auditors who will be there to back check responses to increase reliability and validity
1- One team head2- Two consultants3- Four auditors4- Twenty team leaders5- Forty team members

Sample technique:
It is incumbent on the researcher to clearly define the target population. The sample is defined in keeping with the objectives of the study. The sample reflects the characteristics of the population from which it is drawn. For our study, Convenience sampling will be using in this research. As the name implies, the sample is selected because they are convenient. This method is often used during preliminary research efforts to get a gross estimate of the results. We can use random sampling but we are not sure about the presence of all students at department at one time. We choose a sample of 800 i.e. 80 from each department and 20 by each team member.
Time line:
Time allocated to each team leader is of eight working days. Time distribution is as follows:

Work flow diagram:

Process flow for conducting this survey will be as follow:

Work cells:
To conduct surveys from different departments, I divided departments into different work cells. There are 10 work cells for each department, one work cell of main team head and consultants and lastly is of auditors. I broke down this task into 20 questionnaires by each member to keep in mind time constraint. This is crucial time for students because it is end of the semester and students who are as team leaders and team members have to do their own work/projects. This will help in increasing the efficiency and effectiveness of whole process.
8
Motivational factor:
To motivate team leaders and team members, following points should be kept in mind which will help in motivating them:
1- Clear objective and purpose of conducting this survey should be conveyed2- Appreciate each one according to their efforts3- Attention and continuous communication as Relay room experiment4- Relatedness of the task to practical life5- Last but not the least, marks, with the consensus of respective faculty
Conclusion:
In the last, that’s all what will I do as a team head. I will try to communicate as much as I can, which in result motivates them. This will also help in getting accuracy in data. The work flow should be clear to everyone. I will also try to minimize ambiguities at any part of the task. Lastly, more you and your team are clear in what they want to get done, more good results will be there.
