1914: Moseley resigned at Manchester to return to Oxford to pursue his research. World War I broke out, he turned down a job offer and enlisted in the Royal Engineers. He fought at Gallipoli (Turkey) , where he was killed in action by a sniper in 1915 Isaac Asimov once wrote that "In view of what he [Moseley] might still have accomplished ... his death might well have been the most costly single death of the war to mankind generally."[5] Because of Moseley's death in the War, the British government began a policy of no longer allowing their scientists to enlist for combat.[6]
Moseley was 28 years old when he died
