Hi Fellow Muzzleloaders:
The shooting and rendezvous season will be upon us real soon. We start off with the Ed Green Memorial
Shoot hosted by the Sheridan Bull shooters and the Danner’s out at their ranch north of Sheridan. This con-
tinues to be a favorite of everyone as there are activities for all the family all the time. Some of the favorite
shoots are the quail walk and the charging bear target. As always there is good food. Next up is the annual
Memorial Weekend shoot sponsored by the Wind River Muzzleloaders at Riverton Wyoming. This club
knows how to host a great shoot. There is always plenty of shooting available, including primitive matches,
and trade gun match. They indicate that they will have some new shoots this year. Then going into June Sa-
ratoga has the Marion Baker Memorial Shoot and then Deer Creek’s annual shoot. All events will have plen-
ty to do, good friends and good food. I would highly recommend that you contact your local 4-H shooting
sports leaders and invite the 4-H youth to come out and participate in our events and win prizes. We need to
get a little more persistent in getting the 4-H involved.
The Big Horn Basin Muzzleloaders held their annual Black Powder Cartridge match April 15, 2012. We had
about 40 shooters show and participate. It was a little chilly, but the wind wasn’t as bad as last year. The
past few months club shoots have been great with the nice weather we are having. However, now we need
some moisture.
Kathi and I flew back to Savannah, GA to see our daughter and son-in-law over the Easter Holiday. We had
a great time; we got to tour Savannah, walked some old grave yards, saw some really old buildings, and went
to Jekyll Island and the beach. We also toured Ft. Stewart army base. Quite a different area than the open
spaces of Wyoming, everything was green and covered with trees.
Our next board meeting is at the Memorial Weekend shoot. We should have some reports from the commit-
tees on updating the bylaws and procedures . If you have something you want brought up before the board,
please contact a board member ahead of time.
Theresa Bader fell and broke her ankle last week. She will be having surgery to fix her ankle on Tuesday, in
Cody. Mike Chapin is now in Powell Valley Hospice; Mike Chapin, Room 414, 999 Ave G, Powell, WY 82435. Please keep everyone in your thoughts and prayers. Keep your powder dry.

Please join us at the base of the Snowy Range in Southeastern Wyoming. The site is south of McFadden, WY
along Rock Creek. The elevation is about 7400 ft so weather will be 75-85 F during the day with night time
lows around 40 F during mid July. There are several large Beaver ponds on the property for those warmer
days and most of the area is grassy and flat with plenty of cottonwoods for shade. There is more firewood at
the site then we will use however it will be mainly cottonwood. We will have a host of events to keep every-
one entertained. We hope to see all of you there. If you would like to volunteer to help, please feel free to
contact us through email.
John Colter Shoot Results
The 5th Annual John Colter shoot was held at Meeteeste, Wyoming on 2/25/12. There was about 22 shooters and lot of spectators that showed up to brave the elements on a sunny yet, blustery day in Wyoming. Some of the shooters were from Casper, Riverton, Cody and Lander. Jeff McManus, Ned Dun and crew got the gongs put up and paper targets things were ready to around 10:30. The wind started about the time we got the shoot start-ed and really made shooting a chal-lenge at all of the targets. Now I offi-cially know why it is called Colter’s Hell, when the wind blows the powder out before you can even pour it in the barrel. About ½ of the shooters started out on gongs and the other ½ started out on paper. Jeff, being the evil person that he is had the 25 yd paper target as the “fun” target. I now know a few other names for this target and “fun” is not a name I would call it now. Jeff even had a few
choice words for the fun target.
After the shoot we gathered at the Elk Horn Bar for a special chicken fried steak dinner and fixings. Jeff McManus, Ned Dun and Larry Jones had gathered up some cash for the winners and plenty of donations for prizes for all shooters; plus the entry fee of a dozen cookies.
Some of the donations were from Craig Kirkland with Bear River Powder, Rocky Mountain Discount Sports, Denny’s Guns, Elkhorn Bar, Dave Owen’s Big Horn Quilts, Larry Jones, Jeff McManus, Bry-an Youngberg, Ned and Jean Dun, Bar Nunn Can-vas. The Irma Hotel and Buffalo Bill Cody provided discounts to participants.
The John Colter shoot is a great one day shoot due to the hard work of Jeff McManus and Ned Dun. Ned Dun donated the steel gong targets. Big Horn Basin Muzzleloaders donated the pa-per targets. What a fine way to spend the weekend in Northwest Wyoming. Bill Morrison

anyone is interested in being the National Muzzle Loading Rifle Association Field rep for Wyoming, please

Seasonal Recipe
Well it’s that time of the year again...Morel Mushroom Season. I know you guys n’gals on the Bighorn, N.
Platte, Snake, Little Snake and Cheyenne rivers know EXACTLY what I’m talking about! Everybody has a
good recipe for Morels but this one has always had the whole company clamoring for seconds.
MORELS WITH WILD RICE
Serves 2 Double handful fresh morels, rinsed
(trimmed and halved lengthwise)
Or dried morels
2/3 cup raw wild rice, well rinsed
1/2 stick butter
6 tablespoons heavy cream
1 tablespoon brandy
Salt and fresh ground pepper
If using dried mushrooms, soak in warm water for 20-30 minutes, then drain, Cook rice in a saucepan of slated boiling water 18-20
minutes until the grains begin to split. (You may want to consult the directions on the rice container.) Drain well.
Meanwhile, melt half the butter in a heavy bottom skillet, add all of the mushrooms and sauté over a moderately high heat 2-3
minutes. Season to taste, add the cream and brandy and reduce the heat. Continue cooking until the liquid has almost all evaporated.
Transfer mushrooms to a bowl, cover and keep warm.
Melt remaining butter in pan, add the wild rice and reheat, stirring to coat well. Season to taste and serve topped with the mush-
rooms. Enjoy
