WYNNUM & DISTRICT RUGBY UNION CLUB

The Wynnum & District Rugby Union Club, locally known as The Bugs, thanks you for taking the time to review this Sponsorship Proposal. There are ranges of sponsorship opportunities available for both our Rugby Union and Netball Associations and we’d be happy to discuss any alternative sponsorship arrangements you may have in mind.

Our Club is situated in the East regional Brisbane it draws 60%+ of its players from immediate suburbs such as Wynnum, Manly, Lota, Hemmant and Wakerley. It is a community club based on local geography. Our juniors & senior teams can travel from Brisbane to Toowoomba covering most of South East Queensland. The Battered Bugs can go as far away as Bundaberg & Townsville.

The Bugs have a proud tradition dating back to 1979. The Club works closely to align the Junior Club with the Senior Club (which has a long and proud history of success in the suburban rugby community) and netball. Since its foundation, it has grown to be a 600 plus player club and continues to grow through its reputation for service to its players. The number of registered players at the Wynnum & District Rugby Union grew significantly in 2017 with 345 Junior Rugby Players, 113 Senior Rugby Players and 150 netballers across 40 teams.

The Club has also developed a proportionately large number of representative players who have represented the State in recent years in various representative teams.

The core strengths of the Bugs are:

A family orientated club that develops its player base locally A club which encourages player participation in a safe and friendly environment A community rugby club that expresses all the values associated with community

rugby. A transparent and accountable rugby organisation A club which strongly supports the Codes of Conduct and guidelines for participation

of the relevant governing bodies for players, member/parents and supporters. A club which offers rugby pathways from Under 6 to Senior Men’s A Grade and the

veteran team Battered Bugs team A club with excellent facilities and playing field access. A club which supports disadvantaged children and teens A club which endeavours to create a supportive social team sporting environment for

all members to develop in A club which appreciates on field success and encourages social interaction between

all off the field

WYNNUM & DISTRICT RUGBY UNION SENIOR MEN’S TEAMS

The Wynnum & District Rugby Union Seniors have just completed another successful season in the Queensland Suburban Rugby Union (QSRU) with three men’s teams of which the second grade Pegg Cup qualified for the preliminary final and the first grade Barber Cup made the semi-finals. We also had our first Colts team in six years run around in the QRU 4th grade division qualifying for the semi-finals. The Bugs have established themselves as one of the dominant clubs in Suburban Rugby and will expand on the success of the Colts team in 2018. Elanora Park will continue to be a fortress against visiting teams.

2018 shapes to be another exciting year for the Bugs, with a few new and old faces complementing the successful 2017 squad. The squad will again welcome a couple of international players and also encourage the development of its players to take sabbaticals at foreign clubs for their player and personal development at the end of our season.

The club will also send a team to participate in the 2018 Manilla 10’s rugby tournament in March to expand the opportunities available to its players and provide a rounded finish to the preseason which will also give opportunity for increased team bonding before the start of the regular season.

The goals of the 2018 Bugs will be to continue to welcome and develop a young player base into the club and continue to provide the perfect balance between dominant on field performances with the Esprit De Corps of a social community club off the field.  Wynnum has a vast array of talented local juniors that will continue to be developed into future senior players and leaders.  It is hoped that the previous on-field success will continue and translate

3

into successful representation of our sponsors off the field.

WYNNUM & DISTRICT NETBALL ASSOCIATION

2017 was an amazing year for our Netball club with three of our 12 competition teams making and winning their grand finals in only our second season of netball.  This was only one of many achievements over the past year.  We’ve been excited to see our numbers grow from the smallest playing at Redlands Netball Association in 2016 into a mid-size organisation for this year.  With over 150 netballers playing from U6 to the new ladies team we are seeing more of our ladybugs out in our community.

Looking towards the 2018 season we are expecting our competition playing group to continue to grow by an additional two to four teams. Who in the upcoming year will continue to train in Wynnum during the week then play in the Saturday RNA competition during the regular season. In addition to this many teams will also elect to participate in netball carnivals of their choosing including the two major events held at the Pinklands Netball facility. As we continue to rebuild our sport this arrangement ensures our players are exposed to 9 other clubs at a venue that currently accommodates over 5000 other competitors from the greater southern Morton bay region (Brisbane, Redlands and Logan) during the regular playing season.

For our sponsors this is a fantastic time to join the Netball club as we continue the journey of reinvigorating the sport in our district. Not only will sponsors have the satisfaction in becoming part of a club dedicated to the increased participation of a sport predominately aimed at women, but also access to a broader market from Wynnum to Victoria Point and beyond. Moreover, any sponsor coming to our club should be safe in the knowledge that whilst Wynnum and District Netball Association is a separate entity from the Rugby we are part of the greater Bugs family and therefore share the same core values of integrity, loyalty, fraternity, and community spirit to name a few.

The ladybugs look forward to working with you in 2018.

FROM THE PRESIDENT

I have the great pleasure of stepping into the President’s chair at Wynnum & Districts Rugby Union Club, as of last month. Prior to last month, I have been actively involved with Coaching and Game Day Co-ordinating. I find it difficult to quantify to you the fulfilment I found in these volunteering roles. It would be fair to say that the Mums and Dads that do volunteer at the club, do so with the same satisfaction, and that is why our family based Clubhouse is very unique.

Over the last six months, I have tried to shadow the former President, Kris Webb, due to the fact that Kris wore some very big shoes at the Bugs Clubhouse, and oversaw many elements of general business.

The one element that I did not need to learn is that Sponsorship and requesting for Grants are the life blood of the Wynnum Bugs Rugby and Netball. Unfortunately, it is becoming increasingly difficult to find the cash savings that are needed to allow our financial standing to grow.

2017 has shown to be a challenging year financially at the Clubhouse, as is every year.

In 2018 we are hoping to begin major developments towards improving and growing the clubs facilities, which when complete will be a fantastic addition to the club and community as a whole.

Your sponsorship will provide our volunteer based organisation with ability to progress with facility maintenance and plan towards infrastructure improvement. I would like to personally thank you for your consideration of sponsorship in 2018 of the Wynnum Bugs. I look forward to meeting you personally at the Bugs Networking & Sponsors Day in mid-2018.

Go the Bugs!

Jim Meerten, President

ALTERNATIVE SPONSORSHIP

Wynnum & District Rugby Union is a diverse and dynamic club and standardised sponsorship is not the best manner to support the club for some businesses or entities. The offer and commitment of specialised goods and services can often be as valuable as support in cash for the operations and growth of a community club. Examples can be donations of meat trays, sign printing, electrical, building or painting services, media management etc. As it is often difficult to compare offers and services, please feel free to discuss a mutually beneficial tailored sponsorship package with the club.

MERCHANDISE/SERVICE SPONSORSHIP

To mirror the on-field success of the club, the Wynnum& District Rugby Union and Netball Associations are looking to reflect this success off-field with kit and apparel. Merchandise such as player kit bags, weather jackets and polo shirts are examples of merchandise which can be used to promote the professionalism of your business as well as the club. Services to the seniors, such as physiotherapy and massage are also highly desirable so please feel free to discuss a mutually beneficial tailored sponsorship package with the club for merchandise, services or ideas not listed in this proposal.
