A Pot Pourri of fabulous New Zealand websites. A great website guide about KIWI websites u dig. 100 new discoveries as a 'look-book' each week.Where NZ url's get discovered and where readers discover sites they hadnt actively been hunting. From 3,000 in 1995, now there's over 500,000 .co.nz websites. We want to bring a few intriguing, interesting or even irritating websites to your attention.

TRANSCRIPT

Are you familiar with www.cartoonyoo.com,

www.raidthepantry.co.nz, www.purplesoap.co.nz,

www.myfrenchlife.com, www.thatblindwoman.com?

FINDING A NEW WEBSITE ....eg: www.thatblindwoman.co.nz (when you DON’T have a URL address, you Google search) Google and search engines are brilliant, if you have all the ingredients....author + new book + nz + something distinctive (blind woman) and up comes this website. But if you exclude ‘blind woman’ in the search you wont discover this website. Worse result if you are simply hunting for new authors, new books, or books for gifts, or top sell-ing books, and hoping to discover this site. You simply wont find it.

THE QUESTION IS... How do we get to learn about interesting or intriguing sites, if we don’t know they even exist, or have never discovered what infact they are selling? That’s the reason for launching this guide. We got frustrated at learning about sites weeks, months or even years after they launched....and thousands we still don’t know about...so we decided lets hunt, collect and share what we find intriguing about NZ websites. THE AIM is to give a voice, to new products, new findings, new to market, without knowing all the specifics of a particular website or even product or subject. Or discovering interesting family businesses, sole traders, entrepreneurs, or those with a great product, service. ...and for those website operators, who equally desire NEW customers, and want to be found.

Geography is

the study of, and

knowledge about

the land.

I didn't start my career with the implicit aim of selling the land. My principle goal was to teach others about the wonderful world of geography. After realising in high school that I had a natural affinity to the land, I studied to be-come a Geography Teacher. With many, many, many hours of study, onsite viewing and desire to soak up what makes this absorbing planet so interesting, I was given the opportunity of becoming a teacher to expand younger minds about the delicious subject of geography.

LATEST CLIENT FEEDBACK

"During our intensive, year-long house search we met and liaised with many agents. Reidunn Keeley was the best agent we ever dealt with. She gave us as much information as she could, and always got back to us very quickly. As well as doing a fantastic job with helping us work out if this house was the one for us (and under considerable time pressure), she was also completely lovely and genuine. We can thoroughly recommend working with Reidunn." Abba & Ryan

Love Chocolate! On 7 April 2007, Pete Reilly, Chris Orange, and Manuel Kahura, of the band Chocolate Fish, played at my wedding celebration at a vine-yard on Waiheke Island. I was completely blown away by what I heard. Their music set an abso-lutely wonderful mood for the eve-ning; the tone was entertaining, upbeat, relaxed, and unobtrusive. Pete, Chris and Manuel are ex-tremely talented musicians, and were willing and able to learn sev-eral songs that my husband and I had requested just a week before the celebration. They covered mu-sic by Al Green, Nina Simone, Ben Harper, Billie Holiday, Bob Dylan, The Beatles, Stevie Wonder, Van Morrison, and others, and also performed fantastic original songs. With a fairly small party of 50 guests, we weren't sure if people would feel moved to dance, but the music definitely got them on their feet. We had such a great time dancing! I am a singer/songwriter, and the highlight of my evening was performing three original songs that I wrote for my husband, with the band's backing. We had-n't had an opportunity to practice beforehand, and I was incredibly impressed by their professional approach, musical talent, and abil-ity to improvise and adapt to the new songs. Nearly all of the guests commented on how amaz-ing the band was, the great atmos-phere that the music created, and how exceptional it was to hear me perform songs with the band. I felt that they went above and beyond what was required to make our wedding unique, memorable and enjoyable, and we couldn't have been happier with our choice. If you would like to contact me re-garding this reference for Choco-late Fish, please contact me at [email protected]. All the best to the band! Keep up the great work. Thanks again. A top place to be a woman

NZ ranked 7 out of 136 countries worldwide as being One of the Best Places to

be a Woman, suggests the recent World Economic Forums Global Gender Gap

Index 2013.

New Zealand was at number one - equal with several European countries - for

educational attainment, which included literacy rates and enrolment in primary,

secondary and tertiary education.

A comment in the NZ Herald from Labour MP Jacinda Ardern said: "When com-

pared with other nations, when it comes to things like access to education, you

would certainly hope that we would be ranking highly.

"But that is no reason for complacency and we have to constantly keep an eye on

how things are improving domestically, even if we're on the improve relative to

other countries, particularly when it comes to the gender pay gap.

Reel Retro Reel Film is a service dedicated to the capturing and documenting of your most important occasions on Super 8mm film.

Reel Film was conceived in 2007 by photographer Josh Hethering-ton upon his introduction and con-version to Super 8 when he stum-bled across and purchased a sec-ond-hand Super 8 camera at a flea market whilst on holiday in Sydney with his wife, Cara.

By combining his experience in still (mostly film-based) photogra-phy, photographing weddings pro-fessionally, a musical background, film-editing experience and an irrepressible love of and passion for retro, analogue-based technol-ogy, he set about developing and honing his skills. For the next two years Josh immersed himself in home movie making – document-ing and editing family birthdays, holidays and celebrations, along with a series of weddings and events on Super 8 film, which he had transferred frame-by-frame to a digital format and then cut, via a software editing platform into si-lent films synced to sympathetic and transforming musical sound-tracks.

The results were delightful and compelling – the essence of their beauty lying ultimately in the un-equalled emotional resonance of Super 8 and the innate and in-comparable aesthetic, romantic, nostalgic and vital qualities of the Super 8mm film format itself. www.reelfilm.co.nz

This Business isn't running at a Snails Pace The market gardens of Hawkes Bay loathe them, but in one pocket of harvestable land, a lo-cal mother of two is encouraging the humble snail to multiply. Raewyn Achten stumbled across the idea of grow-ing snails for restaurants in 2005 after coming across an Australian farmer who was selling an online manual for grow-ing escargots. Within a week of the manual ar-riving, Raewyn had built her first snail bed. However like so many ventures which start with great enthusiasm, she soon realised that snail farm-ing was not quite as easy as she first thought. Problems with early morning es-capees, and the first batch of baby snails being wiped out by hungry birds made her realise there was a lot to learn. Silver Trail Snails was soon gain-ing enough juicy escargots to en-

ter the restaurant market. With the addition of business partner and friend Jaye Sims, this busi-ness is flourishing under the weight of 500,000 snails per annum. Each morning at the crack of dawn, both business partners beat the birds and hunt down es-capees. Each night they spray water over the snail pastures to encourage snails to come out and eat. Being free range , vegetable fed and on pastures pesticide free fits well with the demands of restau-rants and their discerning customer. Snails are a valuable commodity with restaurants paying $15-$18 per dozen for these little delica-cies. A tin of imported snails sells at around $15.00. Achten says its been a huge learning experience for them as they simply didn't have any prior knowledge about snails before investing in this venture. Silver Trail Snails are also sold in gourmet food stores and are proving popular as an addition to dinner parties. Business is all about perfect timing, and with the media reports pointing out the health

benefits of snails, Achten believes they have broken into the snail business at just the right time. www.silvertrailsnails.co.nz

Daughter of the Skies

In the 1930s this beautiful pilot fought her way to the top of the man’s world and inspired generations to escape the shackles of domesticity. She was the first person to fly from England to New Zealand direct, and the first woman to fly from England to Australia and then back. She was born in Rotorua, and was known as Hine-O-Te-Rangi, Daughter of the Skies.

A talented cellist, she did not turn to literature until 1908. Her first volume of short stories, In a German Pension (1911), was not remarkable and achieved little notice, but the sto-ries in Bliss (1920) and The Garden Party (1922) established her as a major writer. Let's Go Retro was a boutique vintage and de-sign store nestled at the base of the Waitakere Ranges, New Zealand. For more than five years I ran the shop which opened, with impeccable timing, just two weeks before the U.S. banking crisis hit the headlines. I survived thanks to my lovely, loyal customers who returned time and again to scoop up the latest offerings. Thank you all! Alas, the overheads and other demands on my time forced me to close the store and l am now focused on building my web store into the best online vintage homewares store in New Zealand. From my lovely West Coast home l will strive to cater to the whole of New Zealand and indeed the world if they so desire.

At Let's Go Retro we celebrate the quality and stylewhich allows a beautiful woolen blanket to be justas practical today as it was when first manufactured in New Zealand fifty or sixty years ago. Even the badly stained or irreparable blankets live again in the form of cushions and toys. Retro curtains become new lampshades, vintage cutlery and pre-decimal coins are recrafted into gorgeous jewels. At Let's Go Retro nothing is discarded which may be restored or reused - I mean, why would you? My business was born of a love of vintage style and a strong leaning towards the green side of life. It continues to grow because there are so many who hold the same values
