My favorite of the U.S. watch firms has always been the Elgin National Watch Company, a prolific firm established in 1864 on 35 acres of land donated by the City of Chicago in Elgin, Illinois. It was a strategic location, right next to the Galena and Chicago Union Railroad, one of the busiest railways into Chicago. By 1867 the first watch was marketed for sale, retailing for $115 (think of that in today’s prices) and Elgin was soon competing head-on with its chief competitor, Waltham, which (ironically) was instrumental in forming Elgin, as two of the original organizers were P.S. Bartlett and D.G. Currier of Waltham fame.
I am pleased to offer for sale the following men’s timepiece from the Elgin firm, a Tonneau case “Lord Elgin” 21 jewel model that dates to ca 1940 and is in excellent condition. My photos do not do this 14kt Rose Gold Filled watch justice – it is in pristine shape and features a rarely seen dust cover to protect the mechanism.
Triple-signed (fully signed) for Elgin, its case measures 41.5mm end to end and 21mm in width (22.5mm with original rose gold winding crown). This works out to be 1-5/8 inches long by13/16 of an inch in width, not including the original crown. It is powered by its original 559 grade, 21 jewel (top of the line) mechanism that has been recently fully serviced to ensure it runs smoothly while keeping accurate time.
The rose or pink gold, matte enamel finished metal dial is in mint condition, professionally restored to its correct status. Features include a 60 minute outer chapter, black enamel painted Arabic numerals, original blue steel Baton style hands and a recessed, square sub-seconds dial with 60 second outer chapter and ‘sweep’ blue steel seconds hand. Signed LORD ELGIN below the 12 with a STAR below this.
The curved solid glass crystal is in MINT condition with no flaws (removed in photos to avoid glare). The case is a beauty, 14 Karat Rose Pink Gold Filled and an elegant Tonneau style. It is in excellent PLUS condition. The original and matching color rose gold winding crown is correctly unsigned and in excellent condition, operating smoothly.
Turning the watch over I see that the back lid is in excellent order, tastefully engraved Gilbert Hirsch 1940. At the edge it is stamped 14K GOLD FILLED. Peeking inside I find that the mechanism has a separate metal dust cover, rarely seen on Elgin or any other watch for that matter. Removing this lid reveals a higher-grade Twenty One Jewel (15/0 Size) manual wind movement

signed Elgin [Grade] 559, USA with serial number X120,839, dating this watch to ca 1940 as per company production records. It is fitted on a new 14mm black crocodile (grain) calf leather strap with yellow gold finished buckle. My favorite among favorite U.S. watch firms is the Elgin National Watch Company, a prolific American firm established in 1864 on 35 acres of land donated by the City of Chicago in Elgin, Illinois. It was a strategic location, right next to the Galena and Chicago Union Railroad, one of the busiest railways into Chicago. By 1867 the first watch was marketed for sale, retailing for $115, an amazing sum today. Elgin was soon competing head-on with its chief competitor, Waltham, who (ironically) was instrumental in forming Elgin, as two of the original organizers were P.S. Bartlett and D.G. Currier of Waltham fame.
I am pleased to offer for sale the following vintage ladies timepiece from the Elgin firm, an inlaid enamel, intricately engraved model that dates to ca 1928. This beautiful timepiece is crafted of 14kt Solid White Gold and is in excellent condition inside and out, complete with finely engraved “FLOWER” design winding crown.
Triple-signed for Elgin, it measures 30mm end to end and 17mm in width (19.6mm with original engraved flower winding crown). This works out to be 1-3/16” long by 5/8” wide without the crown and it is fitted on a vintage black cord bracelet strap that measures 7 inches overall. Tell me your wrist size and I will custom size it before mailing, larger or smaller. It has been fully serviced by my great watchmaker David and its original 15 jewel mechanism , manual wind mechanism winds and sets smoothly while keeping accurate time.
The ivory color, matte enamel finished dial with gold engraved center is in mint condition and without flaw, the original that has been professionally restored to its correct status. It features raised gold Arabic numerals, a 60 minute outer track border and original blue steel Fuseaux-style hands unique to the Elgin company. Note the finely engraved gold center dial. Signed ELGIN below the 12.
The solid glass, oval shape crystal is in mint condition The three-piece, 14 KARAT SOLID WHITE GOLD case is a tour-de-force of inlaid enamel design work, stretching along the edges and with finely engraved corners, in pristine shape with no enamel wear (my photos don’t do the case justice). The original and finely engraved FLOWR design winding crown is as beautiful as the case, perhaps even more beautiful! It is in pristine shape, winding

and setting smoothly.
Turning the watch over I note that the back lid with finely engraved Florentine border is in excellent PLUS order, never personalized and in “like new” condition. Peeking inside via the hinged back lid I find a just cleaned, oiled and regulated Fifteen Jewel (Grade 484, 18/0 Size) movement, signed ELGIN USA, 15 JEWELS with serial number #31,509,369. This number dates the watch to 1928 as per published production records.
The inside of the case lid is stamped Cased and Timed by Elgin National Watch Co., 14K SOLID GOLD, Wadsworth Quality with case number 7375 below.
Fully serviced just last week, this beautiful timepiece winds and sets smoothly while keeping accurate time. It comes fitted with a vintage Deco era black cord strap that will currently fit a wrist up to 7 inches (the cord stretches) but I prefer to custom size it for the winner for the “right” fit – just let me know your wrist size and I’ll take care of the rest, larger or smaller. This is a pristine condition example of a seldom seen Elgin model – I bet there are no more than a thousand left in the world, and not in the shape this one is in! So then, who is going to be wearing this solid gold and enameled case beauty in just a short time?

Since 1998, Holben's Fine Watches' goal has been happy customers. Among watch collectors, the Omega Watch Co. of Switzerland, a firm founded by Louis Brandt of Biel in 1848, is one of the most renowned brands of timepieces. In 1894 a new caliber bore the name of Omega for the first time, and since then it has produced some of the finest caliber wristwatches money can buy. Omega is my favorite Swiss watch firm as well, combining those qualities of name brand recognition, high quality and relative value that are important to the seasoned watch collector.
I am happy to offer for sale the following men's Omega timepiece, a BUMPER automatic wind SEAMASTER model from ca 1950. This beefy lug example features a Solid Stainless Steel Case and is quadruple-signed (dial, case, winding crown and movement).
Its case measures 43mm lug tip to lug tip and 35mm in width (37.3mm with original Omega-signed steel winding crown). This works out to be 1-11/16 inches long by 1-3/8 inches wide, not counting the original crown. It is powered by a high quality Omega 351 caliber, seventeen jewel bumper automatic self-winding mechanism, fully serviced by my watchmaker David just last week to ensure it winds and sets smoothly while keeping accurate time.
The ivory color, enamel finished dial is in excellent order, the original that has been professionally restored to its correct appearance and detail. Features include a 60 second inner track, raised silver arrow-shape hour markers and black enamel

painted Arabic numbers, original silver steel Dauphine-style hands and original ‘sweep’ seconds hand. Signed OMEGA AUTOMATIC with raised silver Omega symbol below the 12 and Seamaster above the 6. It is further signed SWISS MADE at the base of the dial.
The hardened acrylic crystal with armored (tension) ring is in excellent, clear condition. The two-piece case is solid stainless steel, NICER than my photos suggest and in excellent condition – note the BEEFY lugs. The original Omega signed stainless steel NOTCHED winding and setting crown is in great shape, operating smoothly.
Turning the watch over I see that the screw down, stainless steel back lid is in excellent PLUS order with no wear or engravings, past or present. Inside I find a gold finished bumper automatic mechanism that is signed Omega Watch Co., Swiss – Seventeen 17 Jewels - [Caliber] 351, OXG. A “Bumper” automatic differs from most self-winding watches as the rotor swings back and forth about 300 degrees instead of 360 degrees in either direction – a design attributed to Omega. The serial number of #12,433,170 dates the watch to ca 1950 (possibly 1951) as per available Omega production records. The inside of the case back is nicely engine turned and signed ACIER STAYBRITE, OMEGA WATCH CO., FAB. SUISSE, SWISS MADE, C 2577-2.
This watch has been complete Disassembled, Cleaned, Oiled and Regulatedby my trusted watchmaker David just last week so you can be assured that it winds and sets smoothly while keeping very accurate time. It comes fitted on new and high quality 18mm black deBeer Paris crocodile (grain) calf leather band with matching gold steel buckle. Whether it be a Seamaster, Constellation, De Ville or other model - all watch lovers need to have at least ONE Omega in his or her collection. And why not this early Seamaster example?

Since 1998, Holben's Fine Watches' goal has been happy customers. I treat buyers as I like to be treated: with courtesy and respect. One of the finer legacy watch firms of Switzerland, the Glycine Watch Company was incorporated in 1914 as Glycine Scocieté Anonyme< when it opened its factory in the City of Bienne under the direction of founder Eugène Meylan. In 1931, Glycine produced one of the world’s first automatic watches, followed by chronometers in 1932. In 1952 they introduced a VACUUM case range of chronometers and in 1953 launched the AIRMAN line, one of my personal favorites.
I am happy to offer for sale the following vintage Art Deco era Glycine timepiece, a ladies Solid Platinum model with a total of 32 Genuine Diamonds that dates to ca 1938. This cocktail model is in excellent condition, also referred to as an EVENING watch when first sold – what one would consider a dress watch today.
Its solid platinum case measures 32mm end

to end and 15mm in width (16mm with crown). This works out to be 1-1/4 inches long by 5/8 of an inch wide, including the crown. It is fitted on a black cord bracelet strap that makes the overall length 7-1/2 inches, easily adjusted SHORTER (or longer) by me before mailing to the winning bidder. I like being able to custom size a watch for its new owner so please tell me what you need!
It is powered by its original and high quality 17 jewel, Glycine Swiss manual wind movement that has been fully serviced by my talented watchmaker David just last week, ensuring it winds and sets smoothly while keeping accurate time.
The ivory color, enamel finished dial is in excellent order, professionally restored to its correct status. It features enamel Arabic numbers, 60 minute outer track and original BLUE steel hands. Signed GLYCINE below the12.
The original solid glass crystal is in mint condition. The two-piece case is 14 Karat Solid White Gold, in pristine shape. Highlighting this case are 32 Genuine Diamonds, all securely set and with nice sparkle. The matching white gold finished winding crown is in excellent order, operating smoothly.
Turning the watch over I see that the back lid is in excellent shape, absolutely no wear and tastefully engraved “Helen from George, May 3, 1938.” I don’t know about you but I love a watch with a nice engraving on the back – it speaks to the history of the timepiece and the life it led before now.
Peeking inside I find a clean, manual wind mechanism signed 17 Jewels, Seventeen – Glycine Watch Co., Swiss, BXP. The inside of the case back is stamped 900 PLATINUM – 100 IRIDIUM, SEICO for solid platinum and also the case maker.
This late Art Deco dress watch has been disassembled, cleaned, oiled and regulated to ensure it winds and sets smoothly while keeping accurate time. It is fitted with a new old stock black cord bracelet with matching color fittings that measures a total length of 7-1/2 inches. If you need the band shortened (or lengthened) just let me know and I will custom size before I mail it, no charge. A beautiful, ready to wear vintage timepiece from one of Switzerland’s better watch firms - rarely seen as compared to an Omega or Hamilton cocktail watch but of equal quality.

Since 1998, Holben's Fine Watches' goal has been happy customers. Timepieces from the Charles Tissot Watch Co. of Switzerland are among my favorite Swiss watches, very high quality and nicely designed. The firm was founded in Le Locle, Switzerland in 1853 by Charles Félicien Tissot and his son Charles-Emile. It is famous for its Tsars Watch (Russian Imperial Guard, 1904), the first antimagnetic watch (1930), and the Navigator (1953).
In 1925, the Omega Watch Company hired Paul Tissot as its commercial director; in 1930 the two firms merged

under the official name Societe Suisse pour l'lndustrie Horlogere (SSIH), with headquarters in Geneva. Later, Lemania would join this group.
The following early 1950s BUMPER AUTOMATIC model is the result of the partnership and, as watch historian Bruce Shawkey correctly points out (in the National Association of Watch & Clock Collectors August 2003 Bulletin), Tissot were not the lower price option to Omega but were marketed as an equal option.
I am pleased to offer for sale the following men's Tissot timepiece, an original “BUMPER” automatic (self-winding) model that dates to ca 1952 and is in great condition inside and out.
Quadruple-signed for Tissot (dial, winding crown, case and mechanism), it measures 43mm lug tip to lug tip and 34mm in width (36.5m with original, notched edge Tissot-signed crown). This works out to be just shy of 1-3/4 inches in length by under 1-3/8 inches wide, not counting the original steel winding crown. It is powered by its original 17 jewel, self-winding mechanism (Caliber 28.5–21T) to ensure it winds and sets smoothly while keeping accurate time.
The ivory color, enamel finished dial is in excellent condition, the original dial that has been professionally restored. It features incised gold “arrow” hour markers and brown Arabic numerals, a 60 second inner track border, original silver metal Dauphine-style hands with matching fill and an original ‘sweep’ silver steel center seconds hand. Signed Tissot Automaticbelow the 12 and SWISS at the base, hidden by the crystal.
Speaking of the crystal, it is a new old stock armored (tension ring) example in excellent order. The two-piece, Tissot-signed case is Solid Stainless Steel and in great shape, light surface scratches but no obvious wear or signs of abuse, very nice. The original steel winding crown is signed Tissot and in great condition with only normal age, operating as it should.
Turning the watch over I note that the screw down back lid is stainless steel and signed TISSOT SWISS, AUTOMATIC, NON-MAGNETIC, WATERPROOF, SHOCK ABSORBER. Please note that any vintage watch of this age marked waterproof should NOT get wet, consider it a dress watch and stick to the 200M rated (or better) Seiko or Rolex for a dip in the ocean or pool!
Inside is a Seventeen Jewel, “bumper” automatic movement signed CHs TISSOT & FILS - SEVENTEEN 17 JEWELS – SWISS, HON with serial number 2,998,200, indicating a 1952 production date. Below the balance is the caliber: 28.5 –

It is fitted on an 18mm black Ostrich grain calf leather band with steel buckle. In its glory years from the 1920s through the 1940s, the Gruen Watch Company of USA & Switzerland was one of the leaders in wristwatch design and quality, even collaborating with Rolex (i.e., the Aegler movement duo-dial doctors watch) from its factories in Switzerland. Prior to WWII, Gruen was better known in the USA than Rolex, which at that time was concentrating on the British and Commonwealth countries (hence lots of early Rolexes coming out of Australia and the UK). Hans Wilsdorf and Gruen were friends and neighbors in Switzerland (their factories were just yards away), and even agreed to market their watches as Rolex Gruen in Europe, but the Great Depression (and more urgent matters) prevented this.
I am pleased to offer for sale the following vintage men’s timepiece from Gruen, a Veri-Thin series model that dates to the late 1940s and is in pristine, NEW OLD STOCK condition. That’s right folks, this watch is 100% genuine untouched original, complete with its original display box, original tan calfskin Gruen signed band and hang tags, noting this to be the LOGAN model with a suggested retail price of $29.75 when first sold.
Quintuple-signed (dial, case, crown, mechanism & strap), it measures 36mm end to end and 28mm in width (29.5mm with Gruen-signed winding crown). This works out to be 1-3/8 inches long by 1-1/8 inches wide, not including the original winding crown. My skilled watchmaker David has fully serviced its original 15 jewel, 426 caliber Swiss made Veri-Thin mechanism to ensure it is running smoothly and keeping accurate time.
The 100% original silver, enamel finish dial is in MINT condition, guaranteed untouched since it left the factory and in flawless shape, nicer than any photo can show. This also includes the case, its curved and faceted design made it hard to photograph without shadows and glare, it is PERFECT as well, as new.
The dial features raised gold numerals, a 60 minute outer chapter, original gold leaf-style hands and a barrel-shape (like the case) sub-seconds dial with 60 second outer track and SWEEP original gold seconds hand. Signed GRUEN VERI-THIN below the 12 marker and SWITZERLAND at the base of the dial. Again, this untouched dial is mint.
The original solid glass crystal is in mint

condition, removed in some photos to minimize glare. The two-piece case is 10 Karat Yellow Gold Filled with stainless steel Guildite back. It is in MINT condition, far nicer than my photos exhibit. The original yellow gold finished winding crown, marked GRUEN, is in flawless shape as well, winding and setting as it should.
Turning the watch over I find a that the back of the case is mint condition (original satin finish is perfect), stamped Gruen, 10K G.F. Bezel, Stainless Back. Inside the mechanism is signed Gruen Watch Co., Fifteen 15 Jewels, Switzerland, GXC, Veri-Thin Patented, [Caliber] 426. The inside of the case lid is signed Cased and Timed in USA by the Gruen Watch Co., 426 597 with case number B949,615. You will see that one of the original hang tags shows this case number as well, given this is an all original package.
This cleaned, oiled and regulated wristwatch winds and sets smoothly while keeping accurate time. It is fitted on a new and high quality 16mm black deBeer Paris lizard (grain) calf leather strap with matching gold finished buckle but I have shown you the watch with its original band as well, perhaps you will safely store it away to maintain your investment or you could wear it too. Don’t forget the original hinged display case, signed GRUEN on the outside and GRUEN – THE PRECISION WATCH on the inside. While Curvex models always get lots of attention I find the midcentury Veri-Thin models to be timelessly elegant and this stellar original model is no exception.

Since 1998, Holben's Fine Watches' goal has been happy customers. Founded by Ernest Francillon and Auguste Agassiz in the year 1832, the Longines Watch Co. of Switzerland was established in the “Long Meadows” (translated: Longines) near the town of St. Imier. Winner of countless horology awards, their wristwatches are among the best in the world, on par with the “big boys” of the Swiss watch making profession including its chief rival Omega.
I am pleased to offer for sale the following vintage Longines timepiece, a men’s Tank form model that dates to ca 1951 and is crafted of 14kt Solid Yellow Gold. This late Art Deco, mid-century timepiece is in excellent order and features a stepped rectangular case.
Triple-signed, it measures 38mm lug tip to lug tip and 24mm in width (26mm with unmarked gold winding crown). This works out to be just over 1-1/2 inches long by 1 inch wide, including the winder. rectangular (like the case) sub-seconds dial with 60 second outer chapter and sweep gold seconds hand. Signed LONGINES below the 12 marker with the Longines “Winged Hourglass” emblem below this.
The solid glass crystal is in mint condition. The two-piece, stepped sided case is 14 Karat Solid Yellow Gold and is in excellent shape, one very small ding on the bezel (below the 5) but otherwise superb. The unmarked, gold finished winding crown is in excellent order as well, operating smoothly.
Turning the watch over I find that the back lid is in great condition, stamped 14K GOLD. This watch was a presentation/award model and it is inscribed for 25 YEARS of service in 1951.
Inside I find a fully serviced manual wind mechanism, signed Longines Watch Co., Swiss – Seventeen 17 Jewels [Grade] 9L, LXW with serial number 8,089,246, dating it to ca 1951 as per published records. Inside case is stamped Longines – Wittnauer Watch Co. Inc., New York, Geneva, Montreal, 14K GOLD – 2,181,913.
This 1951 Longines winds and sets smoothly while keeping accurate time. Comes fitted with a new 17mm deBeer Paris hand crafted smooth, calf leather strap with matching gold color buckle. All in all a very nice, solid gold Longines where the actual gold value of the case alone is close to $325. One of the best-known watch firms in the world today, the Movado Watch Co. of Switzerland took its name from the Esperanto word that translates as “Always in Motion.” Founded by Achille Ditesheim in 1881, he soon set up the first factory in La Chaux-de-Fonds, and the MOVADO name first appeared in 1906.
One of the first watch companies to produce a wristwatch for men, its most famous early design was the Polyplan, followed by military timepieces and triple date watches.
I am pleased to offer for sale the following vintage men’s timepiece from Movado, a nice and original SPORT model that dates to the late 1950s. This military style watch has a stainless steel case (with protective movement dust cover) made by the Francois Borgel watch case company, arguably the finest Swiss case maker. Of particular interest (at least to me!) is its provenance, presented to an employee of the “PANAMA CANAL CO.” who began work with them in 1941.
Triple-signed, it measures 41mm lug tip to lug tip and 33mm in width (35mm with original domed steel crown). This works out to be 1-5/8 inches long by just over 1-1/4 inches wide, without the crown. It is powered by its original 17 jewel Movado Factories (260 caliber) mechanism that has been fully serviced by my trusted watchmaker David, ensuring it winds and

sets smoothly while keeping accurate time.
The silver, matte enamel finished dial is in mint condition, the original that has been restored to its correct original status. It features a 60 second outer track calibrated to 1/5 of a second for precision, original silver steel Baton style hands and a center ‘sweep’ seconds hand with RED arrow tip. Signed MOVADO SPORT below the 12 and SWITZERLAND at the base of the dial.
The hardened acrylic crystal is excellent condition and clear. The three-piece stainless steel case is in excellent PLUS order, complete with stepped bezel and notched lugs. This case was designed and fabricated by Switzerland’s most regarded case maker – Francois Borgel (est. 1887) – a name that seasoned collectors are familiar with given he was the first to attempt to make a water and dust resistant, hermetic case. It is stamped #4058 between the top lugs. The original and unmarked domed steel winding crown is in excellent shape, operating smoothly.
Turning the watch over I note that the stainless back lid is a ten sided, screw-down design in great to excellent shape, just a couple scratches visible. It is stamped Roy L. Sanker, Panama Canal Co., 5-22-41 -- 5-18-57. Peeking inside I see that there is a metal Dust Cover Lid, a useful case accessory found on only better quality timepieces and preventing dust and moisture from getting to the movement. Removing this I find a Seventeen Jewel movement that is signed Movado Factories – 17 Jewels – Swiss Made. The caliber number 260 is located below the balance wheel. The inside of the outer case lid is fully hallmarked with the Movado trademark (hand holding pocket watch), including FB [Key] PATENT + STAINLESS STEEL INAL, MOVADO FACTORIES, SWITZERLAND, FABRICATION SUISSE 284058, 18607. The “FB” stands for Francois Borgel and the KEY symbol is for Geneva. Please note the last four digits of the case number (4058) match the number found stamped between the top lugs.
This cleaned, oiled & regulated watch winds and sets smoothly while keeping accurate time. It is fitted on a 16mm black deBeer Europa lizard grain band with steel buckle. A ready to wear, excellent condition timepiece from one of Switzerland’s best – thanks for dropping by!

Since 1998, Holben's Fine Watches' goal has been happy customers. If you have been looking for an extra nice, high grade vintage American made wristwatch this is a great choice. It is a 14k Solid Yellow Gold DONALD model from Hamilton, complete with a high-grade Medallion series mechanism and excellent dial featuring 18kt solid gold numbers.
Founded in 1892, the Hamilton Watch Company of Lancaster, PA would not officially start its watch production until March 1894, producing pocket watches mainly of railroad grade.
By 1908 Hamilton was producing a lady’s pendant watch and by 1919 a small line of “wrist” watches were available. Hamilton entered the men’s wristwatch market somewhat late, introducing its first non-military men’s

watches in November of 1922. They wasted no time catching up with competitors such as Elgin and Waltham, producing some of the nicest Art Deco gent’s watches made.
I am pleased to offer for sale the following DONALD model from the firm, a model first introduced in 1941 and one of Hamilton’s most popular. This example was produced in 1950 and is 14kt Solid Yellow Gold, as all Donald models are, and is in excellent shape.
Triple-signed, it measures 36mm end to end and 22mm in width (24mm with unmarked winding crown). In inches this works out to be just over 1-3/8” long by 7/8” inch wide, not including the crown. It is powered by its original 19 Jewel Medallion (HW stamped inlaid gold coin) movement, made for solid gold Hamilton models only. It has been fully serviced by my trusted watchmaker David prior to auction, ensuring it winds and sets smoothly while keeping accurate time.
The Butler enamel finished dial is in excellent condition, the original that has been professionally restored to its correct status.
Features include 18k Solid Yellow Gold applied numbers, original gold metal Lance-style hands, a 60 minute outer chapter and tonneau or barrel form (like the case) sub-seconds dial with detailed 60 second outer track and sweep gold seconds hand. Signed HAMILTON below the 12.
The curved and gently raised acrylic crystal is in excellent, clear shape. The two-piece case is 14 Karat Solid Yellow Gold and in excellent PLUS shape, absolutely no wear and obviously carefully worn. The gold winding crown is a vintage but later replacement. It is in excellent shape and operates smoothly.
Turning the watch over I note that the back lid is in excellenht shape and signed Hamilton. Like most solid gold Hamilton watches, this was a presentation piece and it is engraved “H&P Drug Co., Service 1923 – 1950, S.M. Goeman.”
Peeking inside I find a high grade, 982 Grade movement complete with Geneva striping signed Hamilton U.S.A., Grade 982 – 19 Jewels. The movement serial number is M119,901. Note the Hamilton engraved Medallion coin showingHW for Hamilton Watch. This was introduced by the company in 1940 for its solid gold watches only. The inside case lid is signed DONALD, HAMILTON W. CO., LANCASTER, PA. 14K GOLD with case number below. The case maker was the American firm of Schwab & Wuischpard (S&W).
This timepiece has been disassembled, cleaned, oiled, regulated to make sure it winds and sets smoothly while keeping accurate

An excellent, ready to wear American made solid gold timepiece that should prove to be a pleasure to wear and a great investment too. Long before the Bulova Watch Company would become famous the world over, long before there was a Bulova Observatory on top of a Fifth Avenue skyscraper, the company existed as a small jewelry store on Maiden Lane, in New York City, owned and operated by Joseph Bulova. Some of us now know that a young shop assistant named John Ballard convinced Joseph to start selling watches directly to other retailers, which led to the establishment of watch factories in Switzerland and the U.S.A. The rest of course is watch history, with Bulova being one of the most recognized names in the field.
I am pleased to offer for sale the following vintage timepiece from the Bulova firm, a long and curved men’s 10kt Yellow Gold filled MINUTE MAN tonneau form model that dates to 1938 and is in excellent, ALL ORIGINAL condition inside and out. This is the Engraved version of the Minute Man and its curved and streamline case is even nicer than my photos convey, complete with its original yellow gold filled link bracelet (shown separately below) but also with a new black leather strap. It is also a Bulova made entirely in the USA, powered by a proven and high quality Bulova America mechanism.
Triple-signed, it measures 43mm lug tip to lug tip and 21mm in width (22.5mm with original, unmarked gold crown). This works out to be just shy of 1-3/4 inches long by just over ¾ of an inch wide, not counting the winding crown. It is powered by its original 17 Jewel, 7AP caliber Bulova USA mechanism that has been fully serviced by my trusted (and Bulova-trained) watchmaker David, ensuring it winds and sets smoothly while keeping accurate time.
The 100% original ivory color, enamel finished dial is in excellent condition – guaranteed to be untouched since it left the factory 75 years ago and with just a touch of patina along the very edge.
It features a 60 minute checkered outer track border, raised gold numerals, original gold metal hands and a separate tonneau shape sub-seconds dial with 60 second outer chapter and sweep gold seconds hand. Signed BULOVA in raised gold letters below the 12.
The original solid glass crystal is in excellent condition, as new. The case is 10 Karat Yellow Gold Filled and in excellent PLUS condition, absolutely no wear. If you have followed my auctions over the years you will know that I do not offer watches that have cases anything less than great and original and this one is immaculate for this model. The original,

unmarked gold finished winding crown is in excellent shape, winding and setting smoothly.
Turning the watch over I note that the back lid is gently curved and in excellent PLUS condition with absolutely no wear. It is stamped Bulova 10k Gold Filled at the edge with case number 8692193. Peeking inside I discover a clean, original manual wind American made movement, signed Bulova Watch Co., USA, 17 Jewels, Adjusted, [Caliber] 7AP. There is also a Crescent Moon date stamp indicating that this watch was produced in 1938. The inside case lid is stamped BULOVA, FIFTH AVE, NEW YORK.
This fully serviced (disassembled, cleaned, oiled and regulated by a Bulova-trained watchmaker) winds and sets smoothly while keeping accurate time. Comes fitted with a new black calf leather crocodile grain strap with matching color buckle. The winner also gets the 100% original engraved link bracelet strap with adjustable fold-away clasp. It is stamped 12K Gold Filled, B/R, Pat’d 1,796,343. My longtime favorite U.S. watch firm is the Elgin National Watch Company, a prolific American firm established in 1864 on 35 acres of land donated by the City of Elgin, Illinois (the factory had a National Street address). It was a strategic location, right next to the Galena and Chicago Union Railroad, one of the busiest railways into Chicago, and the Elgin factory would become the focal point of the town.
Elgin would offer its first watch for sale in 1867, marking the beginning of fierce competition with its chief competitor, Waltham, which (ironically) was instrumental in forming Elgin, as two of the original organizers were P.S. Bartlett and D.G. Currier of Waltham fame. Bartlett and Currier would later join the Illinois Watch Co. of Springfield.
I am pleased to offer for sale the following vintage men’s timepiece from the Elgin firm, a SHOCKMASTER model that dates to the late 1950s with a very Retro-Modern, mid-century design. This is an all American Model 9583 Elgin, just the second that I’ve ever had.
Fully signed, its solid stainless steel case measures 40.5mm lug tip to lug tip and 34.2mm in width (35mm including almost flush, original crown). This works out to be just shy of 1-5/8 inches long by 1-3/8 inches wide, including the winding crown. It is powered by its original 715 grade, 17 jewel, fully adjusted manual wind mechanism that has been fully serviced by my trusted watchmaker David to ensure it winds and sets smoothly while keeping accurate time.
The ivory color, enamel finished dial is in excellent condition, the original that has been professionally restored to its correct status. Features include raised

silver numbers and arrow shaped hour markers, original silver steel Dauphine hands with original fill and a modernist “Cross Hair” sub-seconds dial with sweep seconds hand. Signed Lord Elgin below the 12 with the dp logo below this, the latter standing for Durapower, the company’s patented unbreakable mainspring. Above the 6 it is signed SHOCKMASTER and this refers to the shock-resistant balance assembly, much like the Swiss incabloc system.
The new hardened acrylic crystal is in excellent, clear condition. The Elgin-signed, American made case is Solid Stainless Steel>/b> and in excellent order, complete with faceted lugs. The original steel winding crown, correctly unmarked (Elgin very rarely signed its crowns), is in excellent order, winding and setting smoothly.
Turning the watch over I note that the back lid is in excellent condition, a snap-down design that is signed Elgin - Durapower, Waterproof, Resistant to Shock, Dust and Magnetism, Stainless Steel. Inside I find a higher quality, Seventeen Jewel mechanism that is signed Elgin [Grade] 715, Seventeen 17 Jewels USA, Adj’d. The inside of the case lid is stamped Cased and Timed by Elgin National Watch Co., Star Watch Case Co., Stainless Steel [Model] 9583 with case number T521736 below.
This timepiece has been disassembled, cleaned, oiled and regulated to ensure it winds and sets smoothly while keeping accurate time. It comes fitted on a new and high quality 18mm black deBeer handcrafted crocodile (grain) calf leather strap with matching steel buckle. A mid-century, Retro Modern timepiece that looks as nice now as when it left the jewelers when Dwight D. Eisenhower was President. I can only wish I look as nice when I’m that age!

Since 1998, Holben's Fine Watches' goal has been happy customers. I treat buyers as I like to be treated: with courtesy and respect. The story of the Eterna Watch Co. of Grenchen, Switzerland reads as a long list of achievements in the world of horology…countless innovations have originated from its factory, and they are especially prized by collectors in Europe and Japan. The quality is remarkable, and one look at their movements tells the story, very high grade.
Founded on November 7, 1856, the first Eterna watch factory began producing pocket watch movements, quickly followed by complete timepieces. Urs Schild took control of the company in 1866, and was noted as the inventor of the pocket alarm watch (which Schild patented in 1908) for use on the wrist.
Through the 1930s and onwards the company had a succession of technical innovations, teamed with its movement-making subsidiary ETA. This included the smallest serially-produced wristwatch, with a baguette movement, in 1930; an eight-day alarm in the early thirties; the first Eterna automatic (self-winding) wristwatch in 1938; a men's model with a swinging winding-weight, an automatic wristwatch in 1942, considered remarkably small and thin for its

time; and the futuristic winding-rotor on ball-bearings launched in 1948 for the Eterna-Matic self-winding wristwatches. Sorry if this introduction is a bit long but I wanted to emphasize that these watches were every bit as good as Omega and Longines models from the same period.
I am pleased to offer for sale the following men’s Eterna model, a sleek ETERNA-MATIC model from the late 1950s (circa 1958) in great original condition. This retro modern timepiece has a solid stainless steel case and features a flush-set crown (elegant) and desirable 1412U caliber mechanism.
Triple-signed, it measures 42mm lug tip to lug tip and 35mm in width (including the set flush winding crown). In inches this works out to be just over 1-5/8 inches long by 1-3/8 inches wide. It is powered by its original and higher-grade 17 jewel, rotor automatic movement (Caliber 1412U, Swiss Patented, as marked) that has been fully serviced by my skilled watchmaker David to ensure it winds smoothly and runs accurately.
The 100% original ivory color, enamel finished dial is in pristine condition, guaranteed untouched since it left the factory on this watch over half a century ago. It features a 60 second incised silver dot outer track border, raised silver hour markers, original silver steel Dauphine-style hands and original sweep center seconds hand. Signed ETERNA-MATIC below the 12 with raised FIVE STAR company trademark. It is further signed SWISS at the base of the dial.
The hardened acrylic crystal is in excellent shape with no flaws. The two-piece case is solid stainless steel and in great to excellent condition – some light scratches visible but very solid and clean. The flush-set winding and setting crown is in great shape, I believe original and operating as it should.
Turning the watch over I note that the back lid is stainless steel, screw down in design and in great shape with no personal engravings or obvious wear, just some normal surface scratching. It carries the case number 4,282,484.
Inside is a beautiful and truly higher-end mechanism signed ETERNA-MATIC WATCH CO., SWISS PAT. – ADJUSTED TWO 2 POSITIONS, SEVENTEEN 17 JEWELS – EXA with caliber number 1412U stamped below the balance wheel. Eterna made this movement caliber from 1953 to 1958.The inside of the case lid is stamped ETERNA WATCH CO., SWISS, ACIER INOXYDABLE, A.
This watch has been completely disassembled, cleaned, oiled and regulated to ensure it winds and sets smoothly and keeps accurate time.

Company. became an official business in 1880, when the brand was officially introduced. Albert, along with his brother Louis (and later Emile) imported complete watches or just mechanisms from its Geneva, Switzerland factory. In 1889 the company ran its very first advertisement. Appearing in the twentieth anniversary issue of the Jewelers’ Weekly, the ad notes that the company sold both plain and complicated watches, suggesting that it was a source for chronographs and repeating watches.
By the 20th century they were firmly established as providing watches, chronometers and military timing devices to the military, famed early explorers and the general public, and are on record for producing the first waterproof watch called the All Proof in 1918. Long associated with the Longines Watch Co. via a US partnership the firm is now owned by Bulova, once a great competitor.
I am pleased to offer for sale the following vintage timepiece from the Wittnauer firm, a men’s GENEVE DATE model (No. 4502) that dates to the early to mid 1960s (ca 1963 – 1967). This watch is great original condition, featuring an automatic (self-winding) mechanism and stainless steel case.

Quadruple-signed, it measures 39mm lug tip to lug tip and 34.3mm in width (35.8mm with Wittnauer-signed winding crown). This works out to be just over 1-1/2 inches long (including lugs) and just shy of 1-3/8 inches wide, not including the Wittnauer crown. Its original 17 jewel, rotor automatic mechanism has been fully serviced this year to ensure it winds and sets smoothly while keeping accurate time.
The 100% original silver, satin enamel finished dial is in excellent condition, guaranteed untouched since it left the factory. Features include applied silver hour markers (faceted and round), a semi-quickset date window at the 3 position, original silver steel hands with black enamel contrast and a sweep original silver steel center seconds hand. Signed WITTNAUER GENEVE below the 12 marker and Automatic above the seconds. It is further stamped SWISS MADE at the base of the dial.
The original hardened acrylic crystal is in excellent, clear condition, complete with raised CYCLOPS magnifying dome over the date. The two-piece, Solid Stainless Steel case is in great to excellent condition (some normal light surface scratches), arguably nicer than the photos show. The original steel winding crown, Wittnauer signed, is in excellent order, winding and setting as it should.
Turning the watch over I note that the screw-down back lid is in great

to excellent shape with no wear or engravings, very minor, light scratches only. It is stamped STAINLESS STEEL.
Inside I find a clean Seventeen Jewel rotor automatic mechanism that is signed Wittnauer Watch Co. Inc. – 17 Seventeen Jewels – [Caliber] C11KAS, Swiss - AXA. The inside case back is signed WITTNAUER WATCH CO. INC., SWISS – STAINLESS STEEL, C 11KAS - 4502.
This watch has been disassembled, cleaned, oiled and regulated to ensure it winds and sets smoothly while keeping accurate time. It comes fitted with a new 17mm black deBeer Paris alligator (grain) calf leather strap with matching steel buckle. All in all an honest and original mid-century Wittnauer Switzerland watch that is meant to be worn and enjoyed. If you keep this one in good shape it will prove to be a great investment over time – they’re not making them like this anymore.

Since 1998, Holben's Fine Watches' goal has been happy customers. I have been collecting and selling antique and vintage Waltham watches for about 28 years now. I have seen just about everything in terms of WWI timepieces, Art Deco models and later 20th century examples. This 1924 all-original timepiece falls into the category of OLD STOCK, essentially a watch that was worn a couple of times and safely stored away for almost 90 years.
Founded by Aaron Dennison and E. Howard, the highly regarded Waltham Watch Company of Waltham, Mass. is one of the grandfathers of U.S. horology, in business from 1850 to 1959 making high quality pocket watches, clocks and wristwatches known the world over. The company adopted the American Waltham name in 1859, having already used such names as Warren, Tracy, Appleton and Boston.
I am pleased to offer for sale the following all original Tank form watch form the firm, a men’s 10kt Yellow Gold filled example that dates to 1924. This timepiece comes with its original display box (as shown) and also its original calfskin band, showing age but probably actually worn no more than once or twice since it sold 89 years ago.
Its three-piece case measures 35mm end to end and 24mm in width (26.5mm with original crown). This works out to be 1-3/8 inches long by 1 inch wide. It is powered by its original 15 jewel, Lady Waltham series mechanism that has been fully serviced by my talented watchmaker David to ensure it is running very well and keeping accurate time.
The 100% original silver enamel finished metal dial is in excellent shape, untouched since it left the factory in 1924 and in incredible condition – even the original dial number is stamped below the bezel (No. 1025).
It features a 60 minute inner track border, enamel finished, gold

trimmed Arabic numerals, original blue steel Breguet-style moon-tip hands and a recessed, round seconds dial with silver, engine-turned base and “sweep” blue steel seconds hand. Signed WALTHAM below the 12.
The original solid glass crystal is in mint condition. The case is 10 Karat Yellow Gold Filled with stepped bezel and engraved sides. It is in excellent to mint condition, absolutely pristine and like NEW. The original gold finished winding crown is correctly unmarked and in flawless shape, operating smoothly.
Turning the watch over I note that the back lid is free of any type of wear or signs of actual use – truly in MINT condition with a brushed, satin finish (as applied by the factory). Inside I find a clean fifteen jewel, manual wind movement, signed LADY WALTHAM, USA with serial number 24,536,287. The inside of the case lid is stamped SCEPTER 0587987 .
This all original 1924 Waltham Art Deco Tank watch has been disassembled, cleaned, oiled and regulated to ensure it winds and sets smoothly while keeping accurate time. It comes fitted on a new 16mm black Hirsch “Marcco” matte finish leather strap with gold finished buckle. It also comes with its original brown leather strap showing 90 years of storage age and with a yellow 12k gold filled “Hadley” buckle. It ships in its Waltham display box in excellent shape.
I would call this one a Keeper in terms of style, original condition and original case and band…I hope you do too!

Since 1998, Holben's Fine Watches' goal has been happy customers.
