Acquisition of Domain Bank by Dotster

• Acquisition concerns a major registrar (54% of .aero names)– Dotster is one of top 10 registrars with 3M names after acquisition and with wider

range of associated services

• Both SITA and ICANN have to consent to the contract assignment– SITA ready to issue conditional consent subject to full qualification within 3 months– Both sides waiting for ICANN to issue its consent

WSIS and ICANN update

• World Summit on Information Society (WSIS) – governance of Internet in the widest scope (spam, security, privacy, internationalisation,

sovereign government rights, global accessibility of Internet) – fair sharing of Internet connectivity costs between developed and developing countries – access to Internet for all, providing information and communication technologies to developing

countries

• The nature of Internet regulation will change – we don’t know how (4 options under discussion) – we don’t know when (strong disagreements between governments)

• SITA’s position– recognize and respect the need of governments to be more involved in the wide spectrum of

issues relating to Internet governance– wish to see that any change of arrangements and discussions leading up to it do not

negatively impact the security, stability and global accessibility of the Internet
