Background:

In 2009 the Federation of Kenya Employers initiated

Clustered HIV&AIDS Enterprise Partnership (CHEP)

Networks.

CHEP Network is a strategy to: Increase HIV & AIDS enterprise outreach,

Promote sustainability of the interventions,

Implement comprehensive HIV&AIDS Workplace, outreach programmes,

To promote HIV workplace accountability framework.

Description: Companies in counties come together share their

experiences on how to minimize the occurrence of HIV

at their workplaces.

Main activities of the CHEP networks are: Undertaking HIV knowledge capacity building at enterprise,

Developing and publicizing IEC materials;

Institutionalizing HIV and AIDS programmes at enterprise level; joint promotional activities;

And Providing leadership and solidarity in mitigating socio economic impact of HIV and AIDS.

Lessons learned:

There are 3 CHEP Networks, average of 20 companies reaching out to 12,346 female and 23,158 male workers in the workplace.

CHEP members have taken a lead role in leveraging resources.

Have strongly contributed to sustainable and domestic financing of HIV interventions.

Resulted to improved knowledge base and skills on HIV and AIDS among the private sector.

Conclusion:

Demonstrated the positive influence enterprises can have in

promoting HIV& AIDS prevention in the workplaces.

Future plans are to: Scale up the enhancement of top leadership of companies’

advocacy,

Measure benefits and impacts of the interventions through M&E,

Replicate and sustain positive results achieved,

Strengthen policy and programme uptake through the CHEP Networks.
