General Description:

New installations may require HART multiplexers to enable remote field device management using

FieldCare. Similarly this configuration will work with existing HART Multiplexers with minimal

differences to the procedure.

The HART Multiplexer may be used in conjunction with a PLC or DCS. Pay special attention to

whether the AI or AO cards are already equipped with 250 Ohm HART Communication resistors.

This example will work when the AI or AO card do not have internal HART communication resistors.

The P+F interconnection board FI-DO-Y37023 (E+H SAP# 52017689) is designed to be used with

AI or AO cards that have internal HART communication resistors.

According to RS485 it is possible to have 32 nodes connected with cable distances of about 1200

Screenshots and Step by Step Instruction:

Step 1: With FieldCare Standard Release 3, version 2.01.00, installed ADD NEW DEVICE, and select

the HART OPC Client Comm DTM as shown.

Step 2: The following warning pop-up will occur because the HART OPC Server has not been

connected yet.

Step 3: With the right mouse button select Additional Functions> Open HART Server.

Step 4: Configure the HART OPC Server by building the network topology. With the right mouse

button ADD Network…

Step 5: Select the Network type to be Serial Port RS-485.

Step 6: Name the Network (Eg. P+F_MUX), set the Network Properties (Eg. COM1 & Baudrate. Pay

attention to the baudrate settings on the hardware as well!

Step 7: Add the Multiplexer to the topology using the right mouse button.

Step 8: Configure the Multiplexer settings. Pay attention to the multiplexer dipswitches especially

those for the addressing as this is where you determine what address to set in this step.

Step 9: The following Multiplexer Properties will be displayed after the Server scans the network.

This means you should by now have all of the wiring completed and all interconnections finalized.

No changes to this pop-up window were required in this test setup!

Step 10: Using the right mouse button Add Instrument…

are required.

Step 12: If you have followed the above steps you should similar resulting screens as shown in

Figures 14 & 15 respectively .

terminals 1 + 2 on the interconnection board.

Step 13: Save the settings just completed by selecting FILE> SAVE As…

Step 14: Close the HART OPC Server, then close the open FieldCare Project. Open a new FieldCare

“Empty Project” then add the CommDTM HART OPC Client. As shown in Figure #2.

Step 15: Highlight the HART OPC Client then select CREATE NETWORK. FieldCare will now scan

all of the channels on the connected mux for devices then attach the corresponding DTM as long as

they are available in the DTM catalogue.
