FROM THE PASTOR

Dear South River Family,

April will be an exciting time at South River. Easter is a special time for believers, and we are excited for the opportunity to talk to others about Jesus Christ. Easter is a time of year, like Christmas, when unchurched people are more open to talk about religious topics. Invite your coworkers, neighbors, and friends to join us Easter morning for worship.

Our Easter schedule will begin with our Sunrise Service in the cemetery at 6:30 am tocelebrate our Lord’s resurrection from the dead. Praise the Lord that we no longer liveunder the shadow of death! Then, we will have our annual breakfast at 7:00 am in the Family Life Center. We will have our normal Sunday services and Sunday school to follow. There are two opportunities to invite others to join us on Easter for worship at 8:15 and 10:45.

In our contemporary culture, South River is going to have to be more intentional about witnessing and reaching the lost. The church is no longer the centerpiece of people’s lives. We must step out of our comfort zones and begin building bridges to those who do not have a personal relationship with Christ. Every member has this responsibility!

Blessings,

Pastor Chris

Moreover, brethren, I declare to you the gospel which I preached to you, which also you received and in which you stand, by which also you are saved, if you hold fast that word which I preached to you—unless you believed in vain. For I delivered to you first of all that which I also received: that Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures, and that He was buried, and that He rose again the third day according to the Scriptures. 1 Corinthians 15:1-4

The QUEST was a success! Thank you to everyone who was able to volunteer in making an event that was effective in sharing the Gospel message. Everyone who attended The Quest was able to hear the entire Gospel message. I would like to just pause and acknowledge how RARE the Gospel is being shared during these days of distress. Talking with our AWANAmissionary recently, he shared that our church is one of the few that he has seen sharingeffectively the most important message on the planet. Church family, what we were able to do in the last month exposed people to the message of hope. Our community saw a life without fear at a church that trusts in a God Who reigns over death and life. This is amessage that we must not neglect during the Easter HOLYday. Please pray for the seeds that were planted and the expected growth ahead.

Romans 10:14-2114 How then shall they call on Him in whom they have not believed? And how shall theybelieve in Him of whom they have not heard? And how shall they hear without a preacher?15 And how shall they preach unless they are sent? As it is written: “How beautiful are the feet of those who preach the gospel of peace, who bring glad tidings of good things!”16 But they have not all obeyed the gospel. For Isaiah says, “Lord, who has believed our re-port?” 17 So then faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the word of God. 18 But I say, have they not heard? Yes indeed: “Their sound has gone out to all the earth, and their words to the ends of the world.” 19 But I say, did Israel not know? First Moses says: “I will provoke you to jealousy by those who are not a nation, I will move you to anger by a foolish nation.”20 But Isaiah is very bold and says: “I was found by those who did not seek Me; I was made manifest to those who did not ask for Me.” 21 But to Israel he says: “All day longI have stretched out My hands to a disobedient and contrary people.” Pastor Stephen A. The Chosen Stone and His Chosen People

Coming to Him as to a living stone, rejected indeed by men, but chosen by God andprecious, you also, as living stones, are being built up a spiritual house, a holy priesthood, to offer up spiritual sacrifices acceptable to God through Jesus Christ. Therefore, it is also contained in the Scripture, “Behold, I lay in Zion a chief cornerstone, elect, precious, and he who believes on Him will by no means be put to shame.” Therefore, to you who believe, He is precious; but to those who are disobedient, “The stone which the builders rejected has become the chief cornerstone,” and “A stone of stumbling and a rock of offense.” They stumble, being disobedient to the word, to which they also were appointed. But you are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, His own special people, that you may proclaim the praises of Him who called you out of darkness into His marvelous light; who once were not a people but are now the people of God, who had not obtained mercy but now have obtained mercy.

The photo above is a cornerstone that had been rejected by a church in War, West Virginia. Not sure of the reason for the rejection but it remind-ed me of the way the world and church today is rejecting the Chief Cornerstone and building on a false foundation. May we as Christians never lose sight that we are a royal priesthood and we need Christ as our Chief Cornerstone!!!

DISCIPLESHIP MINISTRY BRISTOL DRIVE

The death and resurrection of Christ are the pinnacle of human history. All of creation, plunged into sin by the rebellion of Adam, saw their redemption hanging on a tree. Every evil thought, every evil action, every evil and blasphemous word spoken against the God of Heaven was laid on His shoulders. Jesus, the perfect Lamb of God, endured the full weight of the wrath of God against sin on their, and our, behalf. Not only did He pay our debt of sin, He granted unto us His own righteousness. We now stand holy and blameless before the Father not based on our works, but His. This intercessory work of redemption isn’t a celebration to be had only once a year. Each Lord’s Day as we stand to sing, pray, and proclaim the Word of God, we encourage each other that Christ lived, died, and rose again for us and for our salvation. May the joy of our salvation fill our hearts and cause us to proclaim His goodness to a world in darkness.
