From the Chairman’s Desk

The fast growing and changing consumer demand for agricultural and other products led by consumer needs of convenience and time-saving, and also the awareness about organic and eco-friendly products is changing the agri-business and marketing system both in India and outside. The country is having competitive strengths to increase production in agricultural sector to five per cent per annum needs large public and private investment in agribusiness. Therefore, the need for agribusiness and marketing management professionals exists in various fields right from procurement of natural resources to consumer research in the supply chain. Thus, there is a growing demand in production and marketing (processed and fresh), knowledge management, procurement, logistics, agricultural finance and extension, commodity, risk management and product development. In view of the increasing competition there is a growing need to compete by providing niche products in food and fibre market to reduce marketing cost.

NIAM’s PGP in agribusiness is a specialized programme to suit the above needs in a focused way. The best of faculty in the country is invited from IIMs, XLRI, MDI and other leading b-schools of the country along with the industry experts to provide knowledge and skills to the students by suitable teaching techniques of case method, lectures, projects and visits of markets, industry and village. Thus, the students here are well suited to take up assignments in various focused areas of the agribusiness and marketing and are ready-to-serve the agribusiness and marketing industry. Summer, winter and live projects undergone by students are satisfying evidence of the contributions by NIAM to the industry.

I invite industry to visit NIAM to take advantage of the excellent batch of PGP students for your manpower needs in agri-business and agricultural marketing fields.

Message from the Director General

For a very long time agribusiness management has been a poor relative of mainstream management. Agri. Business management education has also been occupying a subsidiary place in management education. However with the realization that agriculture and agri business needs to be the driving engine of the Indian economy, Agri. Business is moving to the centre stage.

The National Institute of Agricultural Marketing, which is one of the earliest sector specific management programme in this area, has the major role to fulfil in this transformation. The management students coming out of NIAM and agribusiness institutes need to be multi skilled and excel in variety of knowledge based management competencies. To this end NIAM tailors its selection process, education, project work and on campus activities to develop our students to meet the challenge of all round management and sector specific excellence. In all our activities at NIAM we take a global, holistic view of the present needs as well as future challenges.

The batch of 2007-09 represents the very best of all the efforts in excellence that NIAM has been aiming for. It is my pleasure to present to you the Batch of 2007-09 in the following pages and to invite you for our campus recruitment programme which I am sure you will find very rewarding.

The city presents a unique synthesis of culture that has to be experienced in order to be appreciated. NIAM is 16 km from Bus Station, 17 km from Railway Station and 5 km away from Airport.
