Brad Young is a Multi Talented Artist, Performer and Music producer. He was born and raised in the STL. As a youth he shares similiar experiences of survival from the streets that have prepared him to be the man, the Artist, and the Producer that he is today. He has collabed and produced tracks for major artist such as Gotti “Women lie men lie’ Lil Wayne, and Vega Heartbreak etc... But for him it’s just not enough. Brad has now taken the time to analyze and re-create himself all over again through his music. But this time he wants everyone to know its just the beginning and “My hottest work to come”. We listened attentively as he talked about his journey back into the life of music!

Brad said, back when I decided to write the song titled “Grown Man”, I knew it would be a hit. I was focused and there was one thing about it that I will always

be proud of. “Me and my crew stuck to the plan”..! We had the plan to “Prepare and Execute”! For some reason we just knew there would be success behind the track. “Grownman”. It had the same type main stream vibe to it as Jeremiah’s “Birthday Sex” and since this song was in heavy rotation, I knew we couldn’t loose. You might find it hard to believe, but as soon as we finished that Track, 2 major recording deals hit the table. I know in most cases, it doesn’t happen this way but, what can I say..! “we stuck to the plan”! Both deals fell roughly somewhere around $350,000, but we decided to hold out because Birthday Sex was picked up for $750,000. Honestly that was the only part of my career that I regret “We weren’t thinking about the doors of opportunity”!! Looking for payday, instead of progress we actually waited to long, and

missed out on both deals. This is what I feel was one my biggest mistakes that lead me back to my "Passion" where the real heart felt music lies..

A revelation came to me, that it was time..! Time to dig deeper and put it on wax..!

"I still appreciate the ballad/baby-making music we have come to love". But I attribute my new musical focus to the Jodeci, Tupac and Prince error. The new album is more upbeat and better fit for a cool night out on the town, rather than the bedroom, which is exactly what I am going for. Now I can sing a song with meaning and because I actually do know how to entertain, while singing about how I really feel, you are going to love it. I have experience in the game and the confidence to know, what I want to look like, sound like, and the type of songs I want to write and produce! "I am passionate as an artist and producer, I have a serious plan for how I want to be re established in the game. "I'm not just for myself, I am the leader of Rockhouse with artist Mai lee, Aloha Mischeaux, and Vega Da Heartbreak Kid so its a lot of pressure,, Alot of artist follow the typical R&B rules but because of my ambition creativity, talent and ability to transform as a true artist, I believe that Rockhouse will be elevated to another level. So look out for us in 2012..!

I HAVE A DREAM, I HAVE A DREAM

YES this has been our theme since 1968, as I sit here with my knife, my fork, my spoon and my plate... and so I asked him, Dr Martin Luther King how do I find my dream?

He said son , dreams come from the imagination, temptation, unrealities of the mind, expectations unmet. You see, I don’t want to live by the rules but still I unconditionally choose , to live here, and see..

Challenges seem to unwind, but still I have to find something in you, in “Me”..!

In deserted lands that unwind and blow into dust, but still I have to trust, something in us, something in you, “In Me”

It’s not the same, so we give it a name, to relate my life to yours closing doors to be who is, “Me”!

In control of My Life, Not Just getting old , but just being “Me”

WUZUP Mag. had the opportunity to sit down and talk with a very talented Saint Louis celebrity that is still living his dream with passion... I am sure that everyone has heard of celebrities like Neyo, Aaliyah, Janet Jackson, Chris Brown, Usher, Omarion, Keri Hilson just to say a few. But what do they all have in common? Well his name is Roland Tabor, one of STL’s own...! Dance choreographer Roland Tabor BKA, “RO RO”.

“RO RO” has been dancing since he was 6yrs old. He

recieved his first break to become a professional dance choreographer when he seized the opportunity to show MC Hammer he could dance. After being impressed with what he saw Hammer took “RO RO” on tour to eventually cross paths with industry professional choreographer Fatima Robinson... With over 10yrs dancing professionally “RO RO’s” talent has

taken him all the way to the big screen to choreograph and cast in the Motion Picture, You Got Serverd.. He is currently working with an upcoming teen star that is soon to hit the pop charts..”RO RO’ is an inspiration to many, a true example of passion, and that hard work pays..! Every business built on gatekeepers eventually fails. At some point some technology comes around, making the entire old school industry obsolete.

Itís a shortsighted model based on greed, ego and false perception of invulnerability.

Take the old school music industry: it was a ticking time bomb of self-destruction waiting to go off. It began with the birth of recorded music. The artist gatekeepers with the infrastructure and access to place music on retail shelves decided they would not just charge a fee for the service, but would also require a transference of copyright from the creator to the gatekeeper.

For the consumer gatekeepers,î they could have chosen to allow more music to be exposed, but they went down the same path as the artist gatekeepers.

It did not need to be this way; the artists could have been allowed to keep their copyrights, and music fans could have had access to discover more music. Try as these two sets of gatekeepers might, their control would be broken. Their over-the-top, greedy mistakes were always on a path of tearing themselves down; it was not a matter of if, it was a matter of when.

Along the way there were lies, theft, piles of money traded, and unnecessary filtering, but the artist and music fan would win. Itís evolution.

The fall came hard and fast. It used to be that as a musician, you had to go to the ìartist gatekeeper, the label, and be one of the anointed few that got the privilege of transferring ownership of what you created to the label so your CDs could end up on store

shelves.

In order to get heard, and then hopefully have your music cause a reaction, you had to be one of the even luckier few chosen by the ìconsumer gatekeepers to have your music played on commercial radio or MTV, or get written about in Rolling Stone.

Did they think, even a moment, that this control would ever be taken from them?

When eMusic, the first on-line digital store, launched in 1998, the boulder began to careen down the mountain. Within ten years, the entire 80-year-old traditional gatekeeper model had been destroyed.

No longer did you need an A&R person deciding an artist was of ìcommercial valueî to be let into the system.

No longer did you have a retail store buyer subjectively deciding which CDs had enough value to be placed on their shelves.

No longer did MTV have a lock on deciding which music videos got seen.

No longer did commercial radio limit what we all heard to the 15 to 20 songs that they decided to play.

No longer was the general population limited to reading what the editors of Rolling Stone, The New York Times, Spin and others decided to write about.

In the digital world, all artists can be on infinite digital shelves with infinite inventory waiting to be discovered, heard, shared and bought. The general population of the world can decide what does and does not have value, and can share thoughts and preferences in scales never before thought imaginable, networking to one another globally, via social outlets like Twitter, FaceBook, MySpace, and YouTube.

Digital radio stations now have millions of songs available to be programmed based on the listenerís preferences, likes and dislikes.

This entire old school system was based not on serving the artist, but on gatekeepers exploiting artists to let them in. And when you are a gatekeeper, when you think you are the only one with

the keys to the kingdom (and only you will ever have them), you do stupid things, immoral things, and create a business where youíre simply a necessary evil.

This mentality extended beyond labels, distributors, retailers, radio stations, MTV and print magazines. It reached into every nook and cranny of the old industry, into entities like ASCAP: the gatekeepers for songwriters to get their money.

Just as it was in the old school industry, there was a time when these gatekeepers reigned supreme in what they did; they, and only they, had systems to track and collect money owed to songwriters for public performances. But then hubris crept in leading to their taking their songwriter membersí money to not only do the job they were hired to do, but also to pay the heads of these organizations exorbitant six and seven figure salaries, spend their membersí money on fleets of cars, expensive dinners, first class airplane tickets, luxury hotels, over the top decadent office space in the most expensive cities in the world (as well as many other travel and expense perks).

They were gatekeepers blocking songwriters from getting their money. Just like the major labels, they were the only ones with the infrastructure to provide the service; if you wanted your songwriter money, you had to go to them. They made their priority maintaining control, not serving. Had they kept this focus, they would now not be in trouble, they would have adapted.

The digital age has made the digital part of what ASCAP and others do a thing of the past. These organizations are not needed to track sales in iTunes or video streams in YouTube, and yet they are fighting and litigating to try to keep songwriters money going to themselves to stick in their pockets. They do not really give a damn that 98% of the worldís songwriters donít get their cut of the money owed to them. There are other entities out in the world now, like TuneCore, that can get songwriters more money, more quickly, with transparency and an audit trail, and yet they fight against this efficiency.

It’s foolish, dumb and wrong.

Well its a new year, and I know that everybody is looking for some good things to happen. Right?!.. Right..! Okay lean in real close, lets talk!! I know everybody was talkin that hustle and grind in 2011, but what exactly is that?! You mean getting up and doing something instead of waiting for someone to do it for you?! This might sound shocking to you, maybe hurt a few feelings, but in real life, getting up for work is just normal. This isnt written to put down your efforts but somewhere along the line we went wrong, all wrong! We had a decade when women became independent and turned to each other to get love and support.. Unions and families were broken, men couldnt get good paying jobs, resulting to many broken homes, jail time and living in the streets. Drug dealing and gang activity hit an all time high. Then another reality set in, another decade, somebody pulled the rug..! Women lost those high paying jobs, the men were returning home from prison but still nobody was paying attention to what was really happening, we just started pointing fingers. We elected a president with motive and

agenda, a pipeline that railroaded the plan that was already set into action in “1992” thats right “1992” do your research! The plan to ultimately seperate families, eliminating the working middle class, to implement total control of economic sanction.. You might not believe it, but Busch actually helped us out with his crap, that caused the market to crash. While we were focused on drugs and gang violence, Unregulated child support laws and Balloon mortgages were set in affect under Clinton administration. We were walking in ignoraance with absolutely no chance at all regain, or recover our lives to look like anything even close to an honest living. Some people really just dont get it! Post office workers were up to 6 days a week with mandatory overtime Car plants 12hr 6-7 days a week, “no life” just alot of suffering to maintain and keep imaterial things. Resulting from this we were the walking dead, already in too deep, nothing really meant anything, nobody was happy, our kids took a big hit and were lost. We were just buying to replace a feeling! Of course it hurts to loose but it was the only way to gain, and Im not talking about more stuff, I mean our lives back..! Find our way back to our families and have inner peace! So now I have a question?! Do you vote? Do you care?! Or do you just like the ignorance of racism that follows the focus of celebrating a black president instead of supporting his issues?! Riddle me that Joka! Yea i said it.. and I have alot more to say in the next issue of WUZUP.. Holla Back!

I don’t know the history of nor the purpose of pimpin’ we saw portrayed in the blaxploitation films of the 70s; but I can give you my observation of my present dating life and our everyday society. I am talking about the modern age pimp mentality that has been passed down for generations. I am not talking about the lifestyle of every man you know; but certain ones. Let me fill you in on a “recent trend” of possible clownship; there’s nothing new under the sun, hence the title pimpin’ ain’t dead. So you are dating a guy; he could be someone new in your life, or that one Boo who has been in your life for a few years or what have you. In this relationship, there is no real “title”, ie. girlfriend/boyfriend, fiancée’; it’s just

baby/boo. Naturally, as a woman

STL 201226 WWW.WUZUP-STL.COM

Page 27: WUZUP Magazine

you question where the relationship is going or if it’s going. If this boo has been around for some years, you are wondering what is this relationship, and why can’t I get rid of him and this no title relationship? This man is persistent. Y’all may even live in two different cities. You do your thang (dating), and he does his; but it’s hardly ever discussed. When you get together, you enjoy each o the r. One fine day post-30, you realize, “I’m tired of dating”, and I want to settle down. So you have to ask long-time boo; “are we gonna be together or what?” Reality sets in…he basically says that y’all ain’t together or a couple, but he doesn’t want you to “date” other men. Wtf? Who does/says things like that? He must be a modern day pimp! And if you stay along for the ride, what does that make you? You’ve guessed it; his Bottom Bitch! WOW! Listen to some Pimp C and Bun B (UGK) for an explanation of any further terms and language.

Somebody queue my theme music “My bitch a choosy lover never fuck without a rubber, never in the sheets like it on top of the cover…money on the dresser, drives a compressor,

DATING AND RELATING

top notch hoes get the most not the lesser”.

And this is my joint circa ’07 “International Players’ Anthem” by UGK and Outkast. Why, you ask? This hilarious, true to life song has

some major dating knowledge within it. Everyone is trying to be chosen; the chosen one, men and women. The man

finds the girl (he chooses her), but she has to choose him back.

See if your pimp game is tight,

you can run up on just about

any woman (the baddest bitch) and she’ll choose you back unless she is

already spoken for (married, engaged,

boyfriend, with another pimp). If

your pimp game is not tight, then another man can run up on your girl

and get her. Where they do that at? It happens

everyday. See everyone is not a pimp and everyone is not a bottom bitch. It takes some mastery

to become these types of people. Most of the players with pimp/bottom

bitch mentality probably had a dad/father and or mother who passed those

characteristics down. Do these types of people become Husbands and Wives you ask? Sometimes. Takes years; and

sometimes a few children along the way. So who would involve themselves

STL 2012 27WWW.WUZUP-STL.COM

Page 28: WUZUP Magazine

DATING AND RELATING

with someone like this? A person who loves the game. A person who has chosen and been chosen.

There is a certain type of swag that comes along with this game. And many of us don’t have time for it. You may think it’s settling, but what will you or won’t you do for love and maybe some security? (He takes care of you; he shows up for family events; he’s your baby’s daddy or high school/college sweetheart) It’s a risk that you run everyday. You might as well have fun doing it. All the prim and proper people who may think that there are no flaws in their relationship could be in for some rude-awakenings. I’d rather know the truth beforehand. How many other women does this man have? Who else is he dating? Will I continue to date others

while keeping boo as number one in the line-up? It just depends on the day and the season. You may think I’m shallow; you may think I’m crazy; but life’s short! I’m definitely enjoying this ride; and I guess we all get what we position ourselves for. Are you a bottom bitch? Or are you just a single, independent, and happy woman? Remember, it’s your choice! You can be replaced by another woman, (which is another risk-factor) just like you can replace him. We all have a choice! Smoochez and Good Luck in Love!
