U-Pb Zircon Geochronology

Minerals were separated from samples at the Institute of Hebei Regional Geology and Mineral Survey in Langfang, China. Zircons were

randomly mounted in epoxy resin and polished close to one-third of individual grain diameters. Cathodoluminescence (CL) imaging (Fig. 6) was

employed to investigate the internal textures of zircons and to check for the sites for U-Pb dating. The primary goal of our U-Pb zircon analyses

was to either determine a crystallization age of the igneous and metamorphic samples or observe the zircon-age spectrum of the single detrital

zircon sample. For the detrital zircon analysis, we aimed to analyze > 59 randomly selected grains to reduce the probability of missing one

population comprising >5﹪ of the total grains at a 95﹪ significance level (Dodson et al., 1988). Zircon analyses of these samples were

performed on the Neptune multiple-collector inductively-coupled plasma mass spectrometer (Thermo Fisher Ltd.) with a 193 nm-FX

intensities. The ablation pits varied at 40, 50, and 60 μm in diameter, which depended on the size of sample grains, and at ~30–40 μm in depth.

The ablated material was carried in helium into the Q-ICP-MS and MC-ICP-MS for simultaneous determination of U-Pb age and Hf isotopic

values. The analytical method used in this study follows Xie et al. (2008). Standard zircon 91500 was employed to correct for mass bias affecting

207Pb/

206Pb,

206Pb/

238U,

207Pb/

235U (

235U =

238U/137.88), and

208Pb/

232Th ratios. NIST SRM 610 glass was used for concentration information and

the U/Th ratio determination. The fractionation correction and results were calculated using GLITTER 4.0 (Macquarie University), and common

Pb was corrected following the method described by Andersen (2002).

Geochemical Analyses of Igneous Rocks

Bulk-rock major and trace element compositions were determined at the Chinese Academy of Geological Sciences. Major element

determinations were done by an X-ray fluorescence spectrometer using the methods of Norrish and Chappel (1977), and ferrous iron was

determined by a wet chemical method. The trace element abundances were determined by inductively coupled plasma-mass spectrometry

(ICP-MS) following Dulski (1994). The precision of the analyses was generally ~ 1% for major oxides, ~0.5% for SiO2, and 3–7% for trace

elements. Accuracy values are based on the average of repeated analysis of standard BHVO-1. The reference standards are the same as those

used for major oxides analyses. The accuracies for most of the trace element measurements are estimated to be better than 5%. All the

geochemical data for major oxides and measured values of trace elements are summarized in Table 2.
