A Message From . . .Dennis Bauer, 2009-10 WSA President
Looking back at the messages that Ihave written, I found two things incommon. One was how fast timegoes by and the other was hopingyou are not forgetting to have fun.
When I first took office, I had visionson how we could increase member-ship by getting the message out onthe value of the association member-ship, the vision of a tighter link with
the International Sign Association due to my involvementin that association, visions of being invited into other shopsto help in their operations and to help solve some prob-lem they have, visions of greater attendance at our confer-ences, visions of an open forum and relaxed discussion atour board meetings with sharing problems, and as a group, coming up with solutions we all benefit from. Also, a visionof a design group forming from their extreme commoninterests and pride which is displayed each year with thedesign contest being part of our fall conference awards.
We have, with the hard work of our board along withWAM, achieved getting the message out to our membersand others around our industry. The website gave outinformation, and I know my successor will focus on thesame. With greater presence at the ISA conventions, Ibelieve we have strengthened this relationship with evengreater opportunity in the future. I did manage to open upsome of the meetings to discuss problems and collectivelycame up with solutions. Designers are welcome to net-work at our events and are working towards being a rec-ognized group of professionals. My belief is this will growmore in the coming years.
The success of the combined conference with the IllinoisSign Association was proof on how open and willing ourorganizations are to work together for the betterment of

the industry. In 2011, we are planning on this combinedconference once again being a complete success and expectan even greater turnout.
The time really did go by fast, and I think we can all agreethese have been some of the hardest times we have beenfaced with during our professional years. By looking back,we as an association still achieved some positive results byour hard work. I want to thank every board member andWAM for their dedication, along with our membership forbeing there even in the toughest of times. Another bigthank you to our many vendors that continue to bring usnew products and training. I hope all consider my term asa success, and by the way, we also had some fun along theway.
