Step 1 — Finding the site

Open a webbrowser and type in https://survey.ecboces.org/admin in your address bar at the top ofthe browser.

This will take you to the administrative side of the site.

If you see the page in the second image, you are on the public side of the site. Add the /admin tothe website address and press the enter or return key.

Step 2 — Logging In

In the login box, check to see thatLDAP is showing in the dropdownbox. This should be selectedautomatically.

Then enter your normal BOCESlogin name and password in theboxes provided.

Your normal BOCES login is the firstpart of your email address. e.g.emmar, loriec, etc.

Click on Log in.

Step 3 — The Entry Page

When you log in, a pop box will appear explaining the very basic steps of getting started withcreating a survey.

From this box, you can either click on Create a New Survey or Close if you want to look at asurvey that you have already created.

If you close the box and want to create a new survey, you can use the create survey button on thehome page.




Step 4 — Getting Started

On the next page, you will enter basic details about your survey.

Start by entering the name of your survey.

The name should be descriptive enough so that if you decide to display it on the public site, peopleknow which survey they need to take.

If you want you can also add a Welcome message and an End Message for your surveyparticipants.

To create a survey with the default options, you can now click on Save and Continue.




Step 5 — Changing the Default Options

One the right hand side of the page is a list of the options that you can change for your survey.

If you decide that you want to change some of the default options, click on the heading by eachsection to see and change the available options.

Presentation and navigation determines how the participants interact with the survey.

Publication and Access control determines how and when the participants can access the survey.

Notification and data management controls if you want to receive an email notifying you ofsubmissions.

Once done, click on the Save and Continue Button.




Step 6 — Getting Start with the Survey

The first time that you get to the Survey page, you will see a warning that first thing that you haveto do is to create a section. You cannot add any questions until you have a section to put them!

Click on the Add section button.

On the next page, enter the name and any description that you want participants to see on thissection or page of questions.

You can add as many pages or sections as you want.

Once done, click on the Save and Continue button.




Step 7 — Section Summary Page

Now that you have a Sectioncreated, you can start to addquestions.

On the next page, you will see thatyour section was created (it is nowlisted under sections in thequestions explorer on the left handside).

There is now an Add new questionto section button in the top tool bar.Click on this to continue.




Step 8 — Adding a Question

On the next page, start by entering a code (like an id) and then the question text.

''The code should help you know which question it is - you can use text or numbers'.'

On the right hand side of the page, under General Options, you can select what kind of questionyou want this to be from the dropdown list.

As you hover over each question type, a pop up will show up explaining what the question will looklike and how it will behave.

Select your question type and then decide if you want the question to be mandatory and, if it is amultiple choice question, whether you want Other as one of the options.

Then click on Save and Continue.




Step 9 — Add Answer Choices

If you selected a question that requires answer choices, on the next page, you will see a warningstating that you need to add answer options to the question.

Click on the Edit answer options button in the top tool bar.

In the next screen, you have a few options for entering your choices. You can just add one at atime in the provided boxes.

Click on the Quick add button, will bring up a box where you can just all your answers in a box(one per line) and then click on replace or add to create them all at once.

Replace will remove any answers added manually on the previous screen including the defaultanswer that is added there automatically whereas Add will add anything you put in this box toquestions already entered on the previous screen.




Step 10 — Predefined Label Sets

Sometimes, we reuse answers again and again. For example, we often need to ask what District aparticipant is from. So, we can create a set of answers that can be reused so that we don't have totype them all out again.

Click on Predefined labels sets to see what label sets are available.

Select the set you want to use from the list and then click on Replace or Add as appropriate. If thepop up does not close, click on the x in the top right hand corner.

Once you are happy with all of your answer options, click on Save and Continue.




Step 11 — Adding More Questions, etc.

On the Question summary page, you will see various options.

To add another question, click on the Add new question to section button.

In the left hand column, click on the Questions explorer to see what sections and questions youhave.

Here you will also have an Add section link to add another section.

Lower down on the left hand side is a link to a page where you can reorder your questions andsections if need be.

From this page, you can just drag and drop your answers and sections to the new position.Remember to click on Save when done.




Step 12 — Preview the Survey

Once you have completed adding all of the questions, you can try out the survey with the Test thisSurvey button.

Work through the survey and make sure that everything works as you expect it to.

If you find something wrong, go back and edit the question/order/sections etc and then test again.




Step 13 — Activate the Survey

Once you are ready to send out the survey, click on Survey at the top of the left hand column.

Click on Activate this Survey.

The survey will now be active and responses will be recorded. You will have an option at this pointto create tokens if you want. This is not normally needed.

Individual tokens can be created that are like individual survey links specific to each participant.This is useful if you only want to invite specific people to take the survey.
