Spin a Story 1. Get a piece of notebook paper. 2. Spin each wheel. 3. Write down what each wheel says. One is who, the other is where, and the other is what. 4. At your desk, write a creative fiction story using the “who, where, and what” from the wheels. 5. Make sure to apply the narrative strategies you have learned so far during the writing workshop. *Place your finished assignment in your red folder* Show-don’t-tell 1. Separate the cards into 3 different piles. One is who, the second is where, and the third is what. 2. Place each pile upside down. The word who, where, and what should be showing. 3. Each student gets 1 card from EACH pile. 4. Don’t let the other players see what your cards read. 5. On a piece of notebook paper, write a paragraph without using the words on the cards you’ve chosen. *a paragraph has 5 sentences* 6. Remember to use the strategy show-don’t-tell when you’re writing your paragraph. 7. Once you’re done with your paragraph, wait until every player is finished with theirs. 8. Each player takes a turn reading their paragraph aloud to the other players. 9. The other players must try to figure out what the “who, where, and what” is in the paragraph. 10. 3. Read the story starter carefully.

4. Write an introduction paragraph using this story starter. *a paragraph has 5 sentences*

5. An introduction paragraph is the beginning of a narrative story.

6. Introduce the topic and answer the 5 W’s. (Example: who, what, where, when, why) Include the character and setting.

7. Revise and edit your introduction paragraph with a member from your group.

8. Do you have punctuation, capitalization? Did you state the characters and setting? Did you answer the 5 W’s?

1. Open the internet.

2. Go to brainpop.

3. Click on English

4. Choose grammar.

5. Watch EACH movie called: capitalization and punctuation

6. After EACH movie, click on the quiz button.

7. Then click on review quiz.

8. If you’re done watching both movies before the time is up, go back to brainpops homepage.

9. Click on English.

10. Choose writing.

11. Watch EACH movie called: show not tell and strengthening sentences.

12. After EACH movie, click on the quiz button.

13. Then click on review quiz.
