Application Deadline: Friday, November 13, 2015 Applicant Interviews: November 16 – 20, 2015 Orientation Session for Grantees: Spring Planning 2016 (TBA) 2016 Summer Workshop Series for Grantees: Thursday, May 19: 2 to 5 p.m. Friday, May 20: 9 a.m. to noon Monday, May 23: 2 to 5 p.m. Tuesday, May 24: 2 to 5 p.m. Wednesday, May 25: 2 to 3:30 p.m. By submitting an application to the WAC/WID Professional Development Program, I propose to redesign a course within my discipline in which I will: 1. Create and/or revise opportunities for students to use informal, low-stakes writing to learn and engage with course content. 2. Create and/or revise at least three assignments that incorporate writing. 3. Scaffold assignments. 4. Incorporate transparent grading criteria for assignments. 5. Provide opportunities for collaboration, revision and feedback. 6. Include the grades students earn on writing assignments in the calculation of their final averages. • When possible, at least 40% of the final average in Gordon Rule classes will come from writing and at least 20% in non-Gordon Rule classes. If my application is accepted, I agree to: 1. Attend a 2-hour WAC/WID Orientation Session (Spring Planning 2016). 2. Read and discuss John Bean’s book, Engaging Ideas, via Falcon Online discussion boards in February-May of 2016. 3. Participate in a WAC/WID Summer Workshop Series (see dates and times listed above) designed to provide me with strategies and peer support pursuant to my course redesign. 4. Present my course redesign to the workshop attendees, facilitators and other interested parties on Wednesday, May 25, 2016 from 2 to 3:30 p.m. 5. Allow the WAC/WID coordinator or a WAC/WID facilitator to observe a class meeting of my redesigned course. 6. Participate in WAC/WID Program assessment procedures, which will include, but are not limited to, faculty surveys and student surveys to be administered in the Fall Term of 2015 and in the Summer or Fall Term of 2016.
