WRITERS WORKSHOP:Picture Perfect in Seven
Directions for Writing Look at each picture and freewrite for 7
minutes. Format: Poem or Narrative Use the whole picture or take pieces of it as
inspiration. Include as much detail as you can.
Use your senses! Get creative! Remember: Your reader isn’t seeing the picture
so you must create the picture for them with your words.

Quick Edit Pick your favorite piece out of the three
you have just written.
Take 7 minutes to edit your piece.
Things to look for: Does your piece make sense? Will the reader be able to envision what you’re
describing? When in doubt, add more detail. Is there stronger/more precise words you could
use?
Quick Conferencing Join your assigned group.
Take turns reading your edited pieces.
After each person reads, give the following feedback: One compliment One question One suggestion for improvement.
Making Changes Use the feedback that you have just been
given to further improve your piece.
Remember, there is always room for improvement! Even if you don’t agree with the feedback you have been given, there are still changes you can make.
