MISSION STATEMENT 4-H EMPOWERS YOUTH TO REACH THEIR FULL POTENTIAL WORKING

This is the essence of the 4-H’ers for 4-H Campaign, sponsored each year by the State 4-H

Council. The campaign raises money to fund projects that benefit 4-H members throughout the

state. This year marks the 31st anniversary of the Iowa 4-H’ers for 4-H Campaign. Last year, we

exceeded our goal and raised over $30,000. We want to continue that growth and have set our

goal for this year at $31,000.00 with a suggested $3.00 per member donation. We also want eve-

ry county in Iowa to participate! YOU can help grow 4-H in Iowa!

The 4-H’ers for 4-H Campaign helps to ensure that 4-H remains available and affordable for

young people like us from across the state. 4-H’ers investments contribute to:

Providing financial assistance to help 4-H’ers attend 4-H camps or conferences.

Helping members from low-income families pay part of their annual 4-H program fee.

Funding speakers and entertainment at the State 4-H Youth Conference, keeping registration

fees affordable for everyone.

Improving the Iowa 4-H Center with new equipment to enhance campers’ experiences. This

year we’re hoping to help purchase new bunk bed sets for Elm Lodge.

We need your help to continue to support Iowa 4-H members with substantial funding! By sup-

porting the Iowa 4-H’ers for 4-H Campaign you are giving back to the organization that has given

so much to you. With your help, we can continue to make 4-H a great experience for other mem-

bers for many years to come!

Participation is easy! Donation form will be mailed to leaders, then return it along with your dona-

tion to the Extension office by May 15. This is a campaign conducted by 4-H youth for 4-H youth,

4-H PLEDGE

I PLEDGE MY HEAD TO CLEARER THINKING, MY HEART TO GREATER LOYALTY, MY HANDS TO LARGER SERVICE,

AND MY HEALTH TO BETTER LIVING, FOR MY CLUB, MY COMMUNITY, MY COUNTRY, AND MY WORLD.

STATE FAIR SWINE INFORMATION

If you are thinking about exhibiting swine at the Iowa State Fair you need to make sure to call Jessica and let her know. All State Fair swine (market & breeding), must have a special DNA punch tag that are at the Extension office and there is a charge. Families will need to tag their own swine and enter it into 4-H Online. Questions please call the Extension office and talk to Jessica.

2016 RABBIT STANDARD OF PERFECTION

The new standard of perfection for 2016 - 2020 is now available. There are some changes. The most notable one is the new weights for single fryers. In the new SOP, the weights for single fryers are to be -- minimum weight of 3 1/2 pounds (that is 1/2 pound more than the previous standard) and the maxi-mum weight will then be 5 1/2 pounds ( that is 1/2 pound more than the previous standard). Also a meat pen with maximum weights will weigh 16 1/2 pounds. Try to keep the state fair rules the same as ARBA rules, and a lot of county fairs to do the same for consistency.

If you plan to exhibit swine at the county fair you will need to buy ear tags. This is required for both 4-H/FFA swine that will be shown at the Wright County Fair. Ear tag will be a $1 each, and are picked up at that the Extension office. NO money will be given back for unused ear tags. Remember your animal needs to be both ear notched and have an ear tag, both of these need to be on the swine ID entered into 4-HOnline by May 15

th.

SWINE EAR TAGS

For all species of animals to be shown at County, other county, Clay County and State Fairs. Animals included swine, horses, poultry, rabbits, dairy, pets, breeding beef & sheep, so basically anything that breathes and eats. Market beef and sheep will or have been ID’d at weigh-in. With May 15 being a Sun-day all animal ID’s need to be entered into 4hOnline by 11:59 pm on Sunday May 15th. Families/youth need to ID animal through their 4hOline account. If there are families/youth who need access to comput-er/internet can come into the office, we will have one for you to use. Jessica also has extended office hours to help families/youth either with questions or if need computer/internet. Extra office hours: Thurs-day, May 5th 5pm-7pm, Monday, May 9th—Wednesday, May 11 9am-7pm, Thursday, May 12 7am—3pm, Friday May 13th 9am-7pm. OUR VISION A WORLD IN WHICH YOUTH AND ADULTS LEARN, GROW, AND WORK TOGETHER AS CATALYSTS FOR POSTIVE CHANGE

STATE 4-H CONFERENCE—DARE TO COMPARE

Every June, almost 1000 teenagers converge on the campus of Iowa State University for 3 days full of speakers, workshops, mixers, dances, a banquet, and community service activities.

If you've completed 8th grade, you're eligible to attend. You don't even have to be in 4-H to attend this conference! You will get to experience campus life and meet new people from across the state! You will be having fun while learn-ing by doing, dancing the nights away, and serving the community. You will get to learn new things to take back to your community and school, and in the process you might even discover something new about yourself! There are opportunities for you to share your talents with the rest of the delegation through small group discussion, the Confer-ence Chorus, and a Talent Show!

If you have a specific interest in animal science, you might want to look into becoming part of the ROUND-UP track! There are also workshop tracks that span all 3 days for certain topics if you'd like to study something in more depth. Or, you can choose different workshops each day to get more variety while you're on campus.

If you'd like to be part of the team to capture the Conference in photos, join our Iowa 4-H Youth Camera Corps, and bring your camera. We're doing things a little differently this year and you'll get to learn photo skills and put them to work through the workshop series.

Please join us in June for the most incredible three days of your life at the Iowa 4-H Youth Conference!

Iowa 4-H Youth Conference 2016 Registration is now open. You can register between now and June 1 for the regular registration cost of $175. STATEWIDE THEMED CAMPS

For more than 100 years, 4-H has helped youth discover and foster a passion for science, engineering, technology and math (STEM) but has done it in context to enhance youth citizenship, leadership, the arts, communication and healthy living.

4-H Mission: 4-H empowers youth to reach their full potential through youth and adult partnerships and re-search-based experiences.

Adventures in nature are only part of the experience young people will have at our 4 or 5-night 4-H STEM Summer Camps. 4-H STEM camps offer a hands-on approach to developing the excitement and skills nec-essary for youth to succeed in a safe and fun setting. The 4-H camp program starts youth on the path to becoming informed citizens and the next generation of scientists and engineers we need for our communi-ties to thrive. Using our research-based Experiential Learning Model in a safe outdoor setting allows youth to connect what they are learning to their daily lives.
