1. Getting Started

To install this theme you must have a working version o WordPress already installed. For

inormation regarding the installation o the WordPress platorm, please see the WordPress

Codex - http://codex.wordpress.org/Installing_WordPress

1.1 Installation

When you are ready to install a theme, you must rst upload the theme les and then activate

the theme itsel. The theme les can be uploaded in two ways:

FTP Upload: Using your FTP program, upload the non-zipped theme older into the /wp-

content/themes/older on your server.

WordPress Upload: Navigate to Appearance > Add New Themes > Upload. Go to browse,

and select the zipped theme older. Hit Install Now and the theme will be uploaded and

installed.

Once the theme is uploaded, you need to activate it. Go to Appearance > Themes and activate

your chosen theme.

2. Theme Features

The theme comes packed with eatures that control the layout and extend the unctionality o

WordPress. This section will document those eatures and how to use them successully.

2.1 Custom Menus

I you using version 3.0 o WordPress or higher, you can setup custom menus to congureyour sites navigation. The theme comes with one custom menu location called Primary

Menu and is located at the very top o the theme.

Should you be running earlier versions o WordPress, the menu degrades graceully and

automatically creates your navigation or you - custom menus are replaced with a list o

pages. In this case, you will have options to alter the display o these menus rom the theme

options.

Setting up custom menus

To setup your custom menus, navigate to Appearance > Menus. Give your menu a name

and build it up using the available widgets. You can add a variety o items including pages,

categories, custom links. To extend the available widgets, click the screen options tab at

the very top o the screen and confgure your options.

Once you have built and saved your menu, simply select the theme location using the widget

on the let. Under Primary Menu, select your custom menu rom the dropdown list to use it

as the sites main navigation.

2.2 Theme Options

The theme comes with a simple to use administration panel. You can access it by navigating

to Appearance > Options. The theme options are conveniently spread over a number o tabs

and each tab contains the options that pertain to a particular area o the theme.

2.2.1 General Settings

As the label suggests, these general options allow you to congure your sites setup. Here

you have options to upload your own logo and insert your Google Analytics code amongst

others.

2.2.2 Styling Options

Here you can control any options that relate to the styling o the theme.

2.2.3 Menu Options

The navigation options allow you to congure your sites menus. It is important to note,

these options will be overwritten should you use the WordPress 3.0+ custom menus

unctionality.

2.2.4 Post Options

The post options relate to your blog post pages. Here you have the option to congure your

related posts, author bios , eatured images and more.

2.3 Custom Widgets

The theme comes with 14 custom widgets that can be used to congure how your site

displays content - they can be ound under Appearance > Widgets.

2.3.1 Custom 125 x 125 Ad Widget

This widget allows you to congure and display up-to 6 125 x 125 banner advertisements.

Title: Title o the widget

Ad x image url: The URL o your banner image e.g. https://reader009.{domain}/reader009/ht Ad x link url: The destination URL o your banner ad e.g. http://example.com

Randomize ads order? Check this box to shue the display o the banners in a

random order on each page load.

2.3.2 Custom Tabbed Widget

This widget allows you to congure and display popular posts (by comment count), recent

posts, latest comments and tags. The tab titles can be changed rom the widget options.

2.3.3 Custom Video Widget

This widget allows you to congure and display a single video. The widget requires the

user to input video embed code taken rom either Vimeo, YouTube, or other video sharing

sites and can display a short description i required.

2.3.4 Custom Flickr Photos Widget

This widget allows you to congure and display Flickr photos rom a users photostream.

Title: Title o the widget Flickr ID: The Flickr ID o the group or users photos you wish to display. You can nd

out your Flickr ID at idGettr.com

Number o Photos: Choose the number o photos to display

Type (user or group): The type o user photos you which to display

Display (random or latest): Choose how to display the photos

2.3.5 Custom Latest Tweets Widget

This widget allows you to congure and display your latest Twitter tweets.

Title: Title o the widget

Twitter Username: The username o the users tweets you wish to display e.g. ormanclark

Number o tweets: Choose the number o tweets to display - max o 20

Follow Text: Choose the anchor text o the link to your Twitter prole. Omit this option i

you do not wish to display a link.

2.4 Shortcodes

The theme comes pre-packed with a number o shortcodes allowing you to add styled

content to your site with little efort. Shortcodes can embed les or create objects that would

normally require lots o complicated, ugly code in just one line. Shortcode = shortcut.

Conveniently, the available shortcodes have been included in a one-click menu. When

creating a page or post, click the green + icon to reveal a list o shorcodes. Choose the

unctionality you wish to include and click insert - this will insert the necessary code or

you.

2.4.1 Column Shortcodes

The content can be split into multiple columns. For example, the option One Hal rom

the shortcode panel will insert the necessary code to split the content into two.

Important: You must end each set o columns with a last option such as One Hal Last.

2.5 Custom Page Templates

The theme comes with a number o in built custom page templates. These templates can be

used on individual pages to alter the display or unctionality.

2.5.1 Archives Template

The theme comes packed with a simple archives template. To create your archives, simply

create a page using the Archives page template. The archive lists will automatically

display below any page content. Lists include the last 30 posts, archives by month and

archives by subject.

2.5.2 Full Width Template

The Full Width template allows the creation o a page without a sidebar. The main content

will span the ull width o the site. To use the template, simply create a page using the Full

WIdth page template.

2.5.3 Contact Form Template

The theme comes packed with a simple contact orm. To use the orm, simply create a page

and use the Contact page template. The orm will automatically insert below any page

content. The orm includes jQuery validation to enhance user experience and the recipient

email can be congured rom the theme options.

2.6 Featured Images

The theme supports the use o eatured images. The theme supports auto-resizing o the

eatured images and so there is only the requirement to speciy a single image. Auto-resizing

will only occur however when the image is uploaded or the rst time, images that have

previously been uploaded will not be resized.

To ensure the correct display o images across your site, ensure you speciy an imagewith dimensions o 570 x 300 or larger.

To upload a post thumbnail, go to Posts > Add New or open an existing post in editing mode.

Locate the Featured Image module and click the Set eatured image link.

Clicking the link will open up the usual WordPress image uploader where you will upload

your image. Simply make sure that it is either the same size or larger than what the nal

thumbnail will be. Once youre done uploading the image, simply click the link that says Set

Featured Image, which is next to the button to insert it into the post.

2.7 Supported Plugins

The theme comes with styles or popular plugins which you may wish to use. Should you

wish to do so, make sure to download latest version, install them in your /wp-content/

plugins/directory and activate them in the Appearance > Plugins menu.

You simply need to activate the plugins and the theme will do the rest.

3. Theme Files

This section discloses the sources o various les used within the theme and describes their

unction. Use this section to gain an understanding on how the theme unctions behind the

scenes i considering any type o modication.

3.1 Cascading Style Sheets

The theme includes a number o CSS les that are used at various times depending on user-

controlled options. All CSS les, with the exception o the main CSS le (style.css) can be

ound in the themes /css/older.

Style.css - The themes main stylesheet and determines the majority o the themes styling.

3.2 JavaScript Files

The theme imports various Javascript les depending on the page being viewed, widget

conguration and settings in the theme options.

jQuery Library - jQuery is a ast and concise JavaScript Library that simplies HTML

document traversing, event handling, animating, and Ajax interactions or rapid web

Selectivizr - Selectivizr is a JavaScript utility that emulates CSS3 pseudo-classes and attribute

selectors in Internet Explorer 6-8. More inormation can be ound at http://selectivizr.com/

Superfsh - Supersh is an enhanced Suckersh-style menu jQuery plugin that takes an

existing pure CSS drop-down menu (so it degrades graceully without JavaScript) and adds

jQuery Validation Plugin - This jQuery plugin makes simple clientside orm validation

trivial, while ofering lots o option or customisation. More inormation can be ound at

jQuery UI - jQuery UI provides abstractions or low-level interaction and animation,

advanced efects and high-level, themeable widgets. More inormation can be ound at http://

jQuery Color Plugin - Adds the ability to do color animations to jQuery 1.2, and newer. More

jQuery.custom.js - This le controls various sections o JS throughout the theme dependant

on settings in the theme options.

3.3 Photoshop Files

All PSDs included with the theme contain the necessary styling or all elements includinglayouts, icons and all custom widgets.
