PARISH SCHOOL OF RELIGION PSR FAMILY NIGHT – We hope our second PSR Family Night was a great evening for all of our families at St. Matthew. We had a chance to go to Eucharistic Adoration and pray together as a family! We also were introduced to our service project that will be ongoing from now through January 19. The PSR Community (and anyone else who'd like to) will be collecting items for Vinton County in Ohio, specifically for the St. Francis Outreach which provides food and items for Vinton County. Items specifically needed are diapers, baby formula, and canned food/nonperishable items. Students and parishioners are encouraged to bring in the items on Sunday evening to their classrooms. Please reach out to Ashley Allwein for more information at [email protected].

The Acts of the Apostles

(28 sessions)

The book of Acts explains that the 3,000 believers who were baptized on the day of Pentecost were Jews from many nations visiting Jerusalem for the ancient Hebrew feast of Pentecost celebrated by the Jews. The amazing truth is that for about the first decade after Jesus’ Ascension, the Church was exclusively Jewish. In this way, Jesus’ apostles fulfill the initial phase of his final instructions to them to be his witnesses in Jerusalem, the holy city that was the central location for the religion of Judaism. The second step in the expansion of the Church required the apostles to bear witness to Jesus Christ beyond the confines of Jerusalem into Judea and Samaria. The book of Acts describes how this is accomplished through bitter persecution of the first Christians.

AN IN-DEPTH STUDY OF THE ACTS OF THE APOSTLES BEGINS IN NOVEMBERJOIN US TODAY!

The Acts of the Apostles is the first history of the Church, and as such, merits a study as careful as it is well-researched. Luke’s motive in writing this book was very simple: to defend and teach the new faith in a beautiful work of apologetics.Steve Ray is your guide on this 1,000+ verse journey into the hearts and minds of the early Christians. Harmonizing history, theology, and eternal truth, St. Luke’s witness is a stirring invitation to follow the one he followed – the one who brought death to its knees. In 28 comprehensive lessons, you will learn:

• How the Apostles’ message of repentance is just as vital for us today• Why the Church was able to survive brutal, constant persecutions• How we can be filled with the same Holy Spirit that inspired Peter, Paul, and all the early Christians

The Acts of the Apostles are the acts of those with hearts on fire. We are called to the same fearless love, no matter what challenges or persecutions come our way. Let Steve Ray unpack this story of hope for you, and let your heart beat with the same fervor that inspired the first Christians.

THIRTY-FIRST SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME NOVEMBER 3, 2019

PARISH PROJECTSAs good stewards of your generosity, the Facilities Team is pleased to provide regular updates on St. Matthew campus projects, improvements, on-going initiatives, and enhancements. As the days get shorter and cooler, our campus is busier than ever. Last week began with Bishop Brennan presiding over an All-School Mass, followed by a tour of the school where he stopped by several classrooms to visit with our students. Halloween activities, All Saints Day Masses and the Mother/Son Dance closed out the week. Maintaining a clean and well-maintained church and school remains a top priority.Pre-winter activities continued with parking lot repair, filter replacement and church grounds LED conversion. Although we haven’t pulled out snow plows and snow blowers, our salt and ice melt inventories are in place. The indoor projects which continue to receive our attention include the Sanctuary sound system. Through your help, we have identified several specific areas that need more clarity. We intend to add additional speakers to provide the needed clarity without overwhelming volume.During the Parish kitchen renovation, we moved stage lighting and installed new control access points for sound and lighting. We worked on supplying power and wiring to those locations for upcoming performances in November. The final touches are being made on the first two of four murals, which will replace the latticework over the Altar. They will be worth the wait.We appreciate this opportunity to provide these updates and welcome suggestions for facility enhancements. Please contact George Harvey at [email protected].

CATHOLIC CONVERSATIONS ON SUNDAY, NOVEMBER 10 Join Fr. David Schalk for his conversation on Pope Francis: The Globalization of Indifference vs. The Culture of Encounter. In a society of growing individualism and indifference, the presence of migrants and refugees prompts a realization of the need for conversion and a renewed embrace of the Christian life. In a message for the 2019 World Day of Migrants and Refugees, released May 27, Pope Francis said, “the most economically advanced societies are witnessing a growing trend towards extreme individualism which, combined with a utilitarian mentality and reinforced by the media, is producing a ‘globalization of indifference.’” Through migrants, “the Lord is calling us to conversion, to be set free from exclusivity, indifference and the throw-away culture,” he said. “Through them, the Lord invites us to embrace fully our Christian life and to contribute, each according to his or her proper vocation, to the building up of a world that is more and more in accord with God’s plan.” Attend Catholic Conversations on Sunday, November 10 at our new location – Oties, 5344 Center Street, Hilliard, OH 43026 (in the Upper Room) for this engaging discussion. Catholic Conversations is hosted by St. Margaret of Cortona Parish. There is no fee to attend, you simply pay for your own food and drink. Registration requested but not required. To register, go to Eventbrite and search for Catholic Conversations or email [email protected] or Nancy Whetstone at [email protected].
