Scriptures for Meditation

“God exalted Jesus Christ to the highest place and gave him the name that is above every name, that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth, and every tongue acknowledge that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.” (Phil 2:1 NIV)

Preparation for Worship The beginning of the prelude is a call to silent, personal preparation for the worship of God.

Prelude God of Heaven and Earth(“Gott des Himmels und der Erden”, Johann Gottfried Walther)

Welcome and Announcements(Please sign in and pass the attendance log in your pew.)

* Passing the Peace

* Opening Hymn O Christ, the Great Foundation No. 443

Preparation for Confession Psalm 62:5-8; 11-12

Let all that I am wait quietly before God, for my hope is in him.

He alone is my rock and my salvation, my fortress where I will not be shaken.

My victory and honor come from God alone.

He is my refuge, a rock where no enemy can reach me.

O my people, trust in him at all times.

Pour out your heart to him, for God is our refuge.

God has spoken plainly, and I have heard it many times:

Power, O God, belongs to you;

Unfailing love, O Lord, is yours.

Surely you repay all people according to what they have done.

Prayer of Confession (unison)

Merciful God, we confess that we have sinned against you in thought, word, and deed, by what we have done, and by what we have left undone. We have not loved you with our whole heart and mind and strength. We have not loved our neighbors as ourselves. In your mercy forgive what we have been, help us amend what we are, and direct what we shall be, so that we may delight in your will and walk in your ways, to the glory of your holy name. Through Christ, our Lord. Amen

(All may offer their personal prayers of confession silently.)

Assurance of Pardon

Leader: Friends, believe the Good News of the Gospel.

People: In Jesus Christ, we are forgiven!

* Response Glory Be to the Father No. 579

Anthem Lord, I Know I Been Changed(Traditional Spiritual, arr. Larry Shackley)

Lord, I know I been changed. Angels in heaven done signed my name. If you don’t believe that I have been redeemed, just follow me down to that ol’ Jordan stream. I’m singin’ Lord, I know I been changed. I went to the river and the water was cold. It chilled my body but not my soul. O Lord, I know I been changed.

Scripture Reading Mark 1:14-20 N.T. pg. 35

Leader: This is the Word of the Lord;

All: Thanks be to God!

All people that on the earth do dwell, Praise the Lord with cheerful voice! Serve Him with joy, His praises tell! Come before Him and rejoice! Know that the Lord is God indeed! His mercy is ever sure. We are His sheep; our Shepherd will lead. His truth shall ever endure! O enter His gates with thanksgiving! Come and fill His courts with your praise! Joyfully enter with singing! The Lord is just in His ways! Let the praises sound! Let the courts resound! Praise God from whom all blessing flow. Praise Him, all creatures here below.
