MORNING WORSHIP

Stand.

HYMN “Send Forth, O Lord, to Every Place”

4

M In the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit.

C Amen.

M For all that we need in life and for the wisdom to use all your gifts with gratitude

and joy, hear our prayer, O Lord.

C Lord, have mercy.

M For the steadfast assurance that nothing can separate us from your love and for

the courage to stand firm against the assaults of Satan and every evil, hear our

prayer, O Christ.

C Christ, have mercy.

M For the well-being of your holy Church in all the world and for those who offer here

their worship and praise, hear our prayer, O Lord.

C Lord, have mercy.

M Merciful God, maker and preserved of life, uphold us by your power and keep us in

your tender care.

C Amen.

M In his mercy and love, Jesus has given us the gospel—the good news of forgiveness

for all of our sins. Now he leads us to share that gospel message with a dying

world. Soldiers of Christ, take up the sword and proclaim the wondrous news of

Christ, the Savior!

C I am not ashamed of the gospel, because it is the power of God that brings

salvation to everyone who believes.

M May the God of peace, who through the blood of the eternal covenant brought back from the dead our Lord Jesus, that great Shepherd of the sheep, equip you with everything good for doing his will, and may he work in us what is pleasing to him, through Jesus Christ, to whom be glory for ever and ever.

C Amen!

Be seated.

READING 2 Corinthians 10:3-5

For though we live in the world, we do not wage war as the world does. The weapons we fight with are not the weapons of the world. On the contrary, they have divine power to demolish strongholds. We demolish arguments and every pretension that sets itself up against the knowledge of God, and we take captive every thought to make it obedient to Christ.

HYMN “Soldiers of the Cross, Arise”

5. Guard the helpless, seek the strayed, Comfort troubles, banish grief; In the might of God arrayed, Scatter sin and unbelief.

6. Be the banner still unfurled. Still unsheathed the Spirit’s sword; Spread your Word in all the world; Let your kingdom come, O Lord.

DEVOTION Based on 2 Corinthians 10:3-5 Stand. APOSTLES’ CREED C I believe in God, the Father almighty, maker of heaven and earth.

I believe in Jesus Christ, his only Son, our Lord, who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died, and was buried. He descended into hell. The third day he rose again from the dead. He ascended into heaven and is seated at the right hand of God the Father almighty. From there he will come to judge the living and the dead. I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy Christian Church—the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting. Amen.

Be seated.

HYMN “Onward, Christian Soldiers”

7

Stand. PRAYER BLESSING M The Lord bless you and keep you. The Lord make his face shine on you and be gracious to you. The Lord look on you with favor and give you peace.

Let all God’s people say:

C Amen! Be seated.
