His body wasn’t left in the tomb. It was changed in the Risen Christ. This tells us that, in Rohr words: matter really matters! We don’t reflect that power always because we can caught up in ourselves. But when we do act on behalf of those around us, it’s our physical and emotional vibes, not just our spiritual desires, that are in partnership with the Risen Christ. Then, matter and spirit are in sync, rather than working at cross-purposes. We can be grateful to Christ and to each other when that happens, as it did during this Lent and Holy Week. The Lord was giving himself in and through all those who helped us celebrate these special seasons. Our wonderful Lenten speakers opened us to our place in Christ’s plan by emphasizing how precious we are to his mission. We could sense that sync with him in the Triduum and on Easter Sunday. The enthusiasm of so many joining together inspired us to praise God and thank Him for what his Christ does for us and our world. Of course, it crucial to have celebrations that draw us, body and soul, into what Christ does, both in our family celebrations and in our parish, at Mass, at Morning Prayer, at our Outdoor Stations, and our Easter Egg Hunt. That’s because we worked with each other. So let’s be grateful to those in our homes who worked so hard - spouses, grandparents, children; and those in our parish - our wonderful altar servers, ushers, lectors, Eucharistic ministers, our Music Ministry team, our beautiful choirs, and leaders of song. It also doesn’t happen without those who worked behind the scenes cleaning the church, decorating it, and acting as sacristans. You all made it possible! Thanks so much to all of you and to all who celebrated, contributed your donations, and made this a very special Easter! Love, Fr. Joe

Dear Friends,

When God gives of Godself, one of two things happens: either flesh is inspirited or spirit is enfleshed. It is really very clear. I am somewhat amazed that more have not recognized this simple pattern: God’s will is incarnation. And against all our expectations of divinity, it appears that for God, matter really matters. (Richard Rohr, April 2, 2018 Reflection)

We have just celebrated Easter. For many, this is a celebration that life is immortal. Our bodies die but our souls live on. Jesus did it and he guarantees that the same will happen to us, if we behave ourselves, follow the Commandments, and try to be nice to each other.

We overlook one thing with this “take” on the Easter story that’s easy to do...the Resurrection includes the transformation of whole person of Jesus, his spirit and his body. His body wasn’t left in the tomb. It was changed in the Risen Christ. This tells us that, in Rohr words: matter really matters!

If matter matters that much, that it can be transformed by God’s eternal love, then Christ reveals himself through the physical world, not in spite of it! We take this for granted in the Eucharist - bread and wine, material substances, become the “face” of Christ. We can easily forget, however, that those pieces of matter become part of our matter, our bodies. We have the power of his presence within us and through us to affect each other.

Fr. Joe

REFLECTION

Let Me Be a Tiny Whispering Sound -Mary Ellen Smajo

Let me be a tiny whispering sound

echoing, echoing round and round and round

proclaiming, proclaiming

“Christ our God lives!” and loves and

lives in our living,

is known by our loving,

as well as His own,

and known are we as His

when like Him we be,

and free, and filled, by our lives we

proclaim Him here,

and become but His heart,

ready to welcome the world

in His arms, enfolding all.

In the image of His light we are His light;

in the image of His love we are His love;

and so we have become like God,

a tiny whispering sound.

STEWARDSHIP REFLECTION

2nd Sunday of Easter “The community of believers was of one heart and mind, and no one claimed that any of his possessions was his own…” (Acts 4:32) All that we are and all that we have is a gift from God! Think of your family, your friends, your talents, your abilities and your money – these are all gifts from God! We aren’t really owners of anything, we are merely “stewards” of the gifts God has blessed us with.

MILESTONE ANNIVERSARY MASSES There will be two special Masses celebrating

milestone years for married couples. The

Archbishop will celebrate the Mass for couples

celebrating 50 or more years of marriage on

May 6, 2018. On April 29, 2018 he will celebrate the

Mass for couples who are celebrating 5 and 25

years of marriage. All the liturgies are at the

Cathedral-Basilica and couples need to be

registered in order to receive certificates.

Register by calling Lynn at the Rectory at

201-791-1616.

We are looking for some Good Young Men for our Men Cornerstone retreat on Friday April 27th & Saturday April 28th

Often times people view church, God, and Jesus as a list of rules, rather than an invitation for a relationship.

The Cornerstone retreat is an invitation to have a connection with God through witnesses’ life journeys and prayer with other men in the Parish. Come and see for yourself. A gathering of Ordinary Men.

" We need you". Please sign up at our website https://jdhill922.wufoo.com/forms/zo2ipvg17sg5ss/

Attention Parishioners:

Planning for our St. Anne’s Annual Three-Day Street Faire has begun.

September 14, 15, 16, 2018 As we continue to grow and improve our annual event this year we are changing the

2. Food Trucks – This year we will again be using vendors for food, as well as our own St. Anne volunteers. We expect to add additional vendors for specialty items.

3. Volunteers will again be needed and we will reaching out to all parishioners and organizations in the

near future.

4. Sponsorships – As the cost of the event continues to increase each year we are looking for sponsors to assist in the overall expense of the Carnival. In the coming weeks we will be making requests for specific items where we will be asking for sponsorships. These can be business or individual donations. We will be setting up an automated payment system for easy payment. All sponsors will be recognized for any donation.

5. GoFundMe - St. Anne’s is in the process of setting up a GoFundMe page specifically to fund the purchase of a new Zeppole Oven. Our Zeppole’s have become quite a big seller in recent years but unfortunately our oven is no longer usable. We will be releasing the link for the GoFundMe Facebook page shortly.

Heating & Air Conditioning ~ Everyone knows that there are some months in which our electricity bill or heating bill is higher

than others. Well, it’s the same with the Church. As you know, we use an additional way of paying for

our extra energy months. In the back of the church each Sunday you will find separate ENERGY

envelopes. If you should happen to hit the jackpot that week, and wish to throw a dollar or two in that

envelope, we’d greatly appreciate it! You can throw these special envelopes right in the collection with

your regular envelope. The energy envelopes will not be mailed to you. They will simply be in the back

of the church, so if you don’t spot them, be sure to ask the ushers at your Mass. Thanks so much. And

special thanks to those who have already been doing it regularly. It makes a difference!!!

Online Giving…

You have the opportunity to make donations to our Sunday collection online! To sign up, go to the St. Anne website – www.stannefairlawnnj.org

There are several ways to access the system: 1. Underneath the scrolling slideshow on the home page, on the bottom right-hand corner, you will see a

Online Giving option to be taken directly to the system.

Once you are taken to the new site, click on the section that says Create New Account. Next you will see New User Account Registration. Fill out the form and click “submit.” When you are enrolled, you can go into Manage My Account, where you will see My Payment Methods. Here you can choose to have the funds deducted from your checking or bank account (you will need your routing and account numbers on hand). Under Manage My Account, you will also see Give a New Gift. There you will decide when and how much to give. (In the list, Offertory Collection means the Sunday collection.) You can select recurring or one time gifts. You also have the option to access all the other special envelopes you would normally find in your envelope packet and which are generally one-time donations. Each time you go to Mass, get a card that says “I have made my donation online” and put it in the collection when the usher comes around. Thanks so much for giving online!
