MY FUTURISTIC EULOGY

Imagine you've reached the end of your life and – as a friendly spirit – you'reeavesdropping at your own memorial service. You nod with satisfaction as you hear therecounting of all the good you did during your journey on Earth. There's even somegood-natured ribbing over mistakes you made in a well-meaning way while learningand growing. You laugh along with the listeners as the person at the podium recounts afew anecdotes that really bring your life into full flavor.

ASSIGNMENT: Write your own eulogy NOW!

Rationale

This tool is valuable for identifying the major achievements you most desire toaccomplish in your lifetime. It points out the holes where you need to pay moreattention to what is important to you, and underscores the values that you hold dear.

Instead of rushing through this with a few quick comments about what a nice personyou were and how much you'll be missed, take time to do this exercise with care. Youwill find it helpful to use as a visionary document that can be a "map" to guide youraction steps from now on.

And, of course, you can keep revising it as the years pass and you accomplish moreand more of your big dreams for expressing yourself fully in the world with all of yourgifts to humanity such as kindness and caring.

Get started

1. Look at the values you decided earlier are important to you2. Think about the legacy you want to leave behind3. Consider how you want to be remembered by family, friends, colleagues and

others4. Include funny stories that deliver the message about your most important values

in a warm and inspiring way5. Remember to write about yourself in the third person6. Make it about a page or two in length. Don't expect the funeral-goers to listen to

a long rambling speech about everything you ever did.7. Hit the highlights – think of the eulogy as the best snapshots or video clips from

your entire life.8. Examine your life values and what is truly important to you, and then write out

the eulogy you wish someone would be saying about you someday

MY "ACT AS IF" LIST

Practice being a winner in every area of your life by "acting as if"you already ARE a confident, happy and successful person.

That person moves through daily life differently than someonewho is hampered by insecurities and self-doubt. BECOME thatwinner by imagining how they behave, and then copying thatbehavior until it becomes second nature to you.

Assignment: Using the two columns below, list several areas in your life where youcan start "acting as if" this week, and jot down a few words to remind yourself of thefeelings that person would have while doing everyday tasks. (See the example given toget you started.)

Practice pretending you are feeling those feelings too, and this exercise becomes a lotof fun and very powerful to change the frequency of the vibration you operate on inyour life. That means the Law of Attraction can start bringing you more and more of theresults that a confident person gets!

"It is our light, not our darkness that mostfrightens us. We ask ourselves,'Who am I tobe brilliant, gorgeous, talented, fabulous?'

"Actually, who are you not to be? You are achild of God. Your playing small does notserve the world. There is nothing enlightenedabout shrinking so that other people won't feelinsecure around you.

Chapter 3 -- Achieving Competence and Personal Mastery

Quotes from this week's reading:

Chapter 2 -- Purpose and Personal Power

"Self-confidence is also subject to the law of indirect effort. We achieve higher levels ofself-confidence not by wishing for it, but by setting and achieving ever-higher goals andobjectives. As we move forward step by step, as we feel ourselves advancing in life, wefeel better and stronger and more capable of taking on even bigger challenges."

"Your job is to do whatever it takes to convince yourself, in your heart, that you areabsolutely unstoppable and that you can achieve anything that you put your mind to."

Chapter 3 -- Achieving Competence and Personal Mastery

"The law of cause and effect applies to everything you are today and to everything thatyou become. If the effect that you desire is high and unshakable levels of self-confidence, then it is necessary that you engage in the same behaviors practiced byothers who enjoy high and unshakable self-confidence, and you will soon experiencehigh levels of self-confidence yourself."

"The law of incremental improvement is your key to an unlimited future of success, prosperity, and self-confidence. It doesn't matter where you are starting from; all thatmatters is where you are going."

"The fact is that, generally speaking, you have the capability to excel at anything that isreally important to you."

MY DECISIONS

Assignment: Pick three or more areas of your life that feel blocked by indecision, procrastination and ambivalence. Perhaps you feel trapped by too many choices ofwhat to do, so you keep putting off a decision, worrying you'll make the wrong one. That energy is being wasted on mulling over "this" versus "that" again and again.Release that energy from within to use on goals that are important to you.

Commitment: "I now resolve this issue by making a decision to move forward withconfidence."

Understand that when you free that stuck energy and make that commitment, ideas forfulfilling your decision will start flowing toward you. All the answers to the "How will I doit?" questions will become clear.

As Ralph Waldo Emerson put it, "Once you make a decision, the universe conspires tomake it happen."

I now decide to...

MY OLD COMFORT ZONE

Whatever is your "fall-back" position in your day to day life could be called your comfortzone. It doesn't mean you sit around all the time in the comfort of a soft couch andwatch TV. You could be a dynamo businessperson or active homemaker and still be ina comfort zone. As a matter of fact, ALL of us reside in a comfort zone until we aremore frustrated with our results than we are fearful of breaking through the boundariesto the new life we'd love to be enjoying.

Assignment: Think about your life and where you feel discontent in any area, and alsowhere you feel a strong longing or yearning for something better. Notice your body'sreaction as you think of these things. Fear is often expressed by a tightening orclutching feeling in the stomach. Your breath might get more shallow and faster. Noticethese feelings with a sense of curiosity rather than judgment, and realize you're at theboundary line of your comfort zone. In the two columns below, write about ways thatstaying in your comfort zone is holding you back, such as with the example given:

OLD COMFORT ZONE

Telling friends I'm too busy to join theirparty for dinner at that new bistro I'd liketo go to, and opting to stay home alone.

ON THE OTHER SIDE OF THE FEARBOUNDARY: WHAT I'D REALLYLOVE TO DO, BE OR HAVE I'd love to join them and feel confidentabout meeting new people and enjoyingnew experiences!

I AM SUCCESSFUL

Assignment: Below, list at least 10 successes or achievements you have experiencedrecently or at any time in your life. Success means you accomplished it. You set outwith a goal in mind, and you kept moving forward even when you felt discouraged. Youfinished the project and felt a good about your effort. Even if by outside standards itcould be judged a failure (such as, in the example given, not getting on the team), Iwant you to recognize and celebrate 10 successes or more:

Example: When I was in high school, I set the goal of training to get on the track teamand I gave it my all – it was hard, but I didn't give up. That makes me a winner!.

MY BLIND SIDE IS

What are you overlooking in your life that if you started paying attention to it andputting energy and focus on, it could really zoom you toward your goals? By itsdefinition, your "blind side" is a part of your thinking that you're not aware of, or thatonly drifts into your line of sight now and then, and then falls back into a hidden zone. You may wish to get input from a trusted friend or family member who will lovingly pointout areas you don't seem to notice about where you're shooting yourself in the foot!

Assignment: Write down any and all ideas of what your blind side could be, and see ifthere is something the new awareness will help you move forward with now that youknow this about yourself. For example, if a friend tells you that you always shut downlistening when anyone tries to give you constructive advice, be aware that you may beblocking their ideas because of an old pattern of feeling criticized – but you're alsomissing out on valuable feedback others could give you.

MY MENTAL FITNESS ROUTINE– 5 DAILY EXERCISES

Assignment: Make a commitment to using these 5 "fitness routines" on a daily basisfor at least a week. You will probably feel so good that you'll want to continue on aregular basis!

1) Positive Self-Talk – notice what you are noticing! Emerson said, "Stand guard atthe portal of your mind."

2) Written AffirmationsWrite your goals on a business card size paper and keep it in your wallet. Make severalcopies and put on your desk, the car console, the fridge door, the bathroom mirror,Read it at least 3 times a day.

Also, write out your goals by hand in a notebook several times a day. Use your regulardominant hand and then switch hands. Repeat for a total of two times with each hand.

3) Positive Visualization

Throughout the day, imagine everything going just the way you want it. Picture theoutcome of each meeting, event or segment of your day in clear detail, imagining howconfident you feel in each situation and how well others respond to you. Feel how greatit feels to be so successful and self-confident! Bring up as much emotion as you can tocement the positive images into place as if you've already had a successful outcomeand are now enjoying it. Make use of vision boards to help this process.

4) Feed your mind

Study for at least 15 minutes every day: books, programs, seminars, audios such asthis "Unstoppable Confidence" course I created for you. Make a commitment to be alearner and a grower from now on in life. That is a habit the most successful andconfident people adopted, and when we model ourselves after them, we change the oldresults we were getting into what we really want.

5) Hang out with positive people

The more you grow in confidence, the less you'll want to spend time aroundcomplainers, whiners and gripers. Cultivate new friends who are interested in personaldevelopment like you are. You'll reinforce and support each other's efforts, and it will bea whole lot more fun to stick with the winners.

MY STRENGTHS AND WEAKNESSES

You can save yourself years of misery at the wrong job (and in the wrong relationship)by always leading with your strengths and refusing promotions that would catapult youout of your strength zone and into a zone of incompetence and weakness!

Note, if you discover that a "weakness" is one that you want to develop, make sure itwould be filling a missing piece in your top strengths, and not just something you'vebeen told by others you "should" be good at. Successful, confident people focus on afew strengths and ignore hundreds of weaknesses -- let others do those things that youare not so good at, and spend your best energy on your true strengths.

MY STRENGTHS:

MY WEAKNESSES: (after listing them, cross off the ones that are trivial and releasethem to disperse in the air without judgment or self-condemnation for not being perfectat everything!)

Thisis similar the an exercise in Week Two, but will help you learn more about yourself andall the ways you ALREADY are successful!

if you're feeling challenged about discovering your strengths, ask a trusted friend orfamily member who cares about you to tell you their opinion of what you are best at.

Whether you're a CEO of your own home, owner of a mom-and-pop retailstore or construction company, working your way up the corporate ladder or incommission-based sales such as real estate, insurance, financial services and carsales, you can claim these qualities for yourself and feel confident they will serve youwell.

Assignment: Make these two commitments, out loud and also in writing, to cementthem into your thinking mind. Add them to your goal card and notebook writing untilthey feel natural to you. Write each statement a few times in the space below each one:

THE STORY OF MY LIFE

This is a bit different from the eulogy assignment in week one, where you wrote aboutthe highlights of the life you want to be living from now on, so at the end of your lifeyou'll feel satisfied that you didn't leave any major goals undone because you avoidedthem.

Assignment: Using as much paper as you'd like, write about the times in your lifegrowing up and up to the present time that you feel impacted you the most, eitherpositively or negatively. If you find it a challenge to get started, think back to being ingrade school and let memories come to mind, then simply jot down enough of the storyto pass for the abridged version of your autobiography. You'll probably start noticing apattern in your life, of the times when Life tried to teach you a lesson and you ignoredthe early warning signs until finally you had to be hit by a Mack truck (in the form of apainful disaster in your life) to understand you needed to learn something importantabout, for instance, being trustworthy in relationships.

MY CHARACTER IS STRONG AND HEALTHY

"One of your aims in life should be to develop your character, to become a better, finer, and stronger human being. The development of characters, essential to your long-termhappiness and well-being, requires that you go through the crucible of setback andtemporary defeat and emerge victorious." ~ Brian Tracy, "The Power of Self-Confidence"

Assignment: Reflect on your life, and the times when you felt you couldn't take anymore, or that you felt beaten down (e.g., an illness in yourself or a close friend/familymember, or a scary financial setback) but you rallied and triumphed and became astronger person in the process. Many cancer survivors say they would never wish theirillness on anyone, but they would wish what they learned from the experience oneveryone! Write about a few times you learned how to be resilient, and note how yougrew from the experience.

MY BOLDNESS ACTIVITIES

Assignment: First, get inspired by people who overcame adversity or challenges andkept advancing confidently in the direction of their desired results. You might find ithelpful to think of Babe Ruth and other baseball record-breakers who hit runs becausethey were willing to play full out and swing again and again despite "failing" (gettingstruck out) more often than not.

Second, ask yourself: WHAT WOULD I DO IF I KNEW I COULDN'T FAIL???

And third, write below your ideas for ways to act boldly and confidently in your life.

Advance Confidently!

from "Walden and Other Writings"by Henry David Thoreau

“I have learned this, at least, by my experiment: that if one advancesconfidently in the direction of his dreams, and endeavors to live thelife which he has imagined, he will meet with a success unexpected incommon hours…

“He will put some things behind, will pass an invisible boundary; new, universal, and more liberal laws will begin to establish themselvesaround and within in him...

"…or the old laws be expanded, and interpreted in his favor in a moreliberal sense, and he will live with the license of a higher order ofbeings.

"In proportion as he simplifies his life, the laws of the universe willappear less complex, and solitude will not be solitude, nor povertypoverty, nor weakness weakness…

"If you have built castles in the air, your work need not be lost; that iswhere they should be. Now put the foundations under them."
