,THE WEST'VALLEY LIGHT OPERA ASSOCIATION The object of the Association is to promote cultural activity in the area and to provide opportunities for drama students and others who have dramatic aspirations to take par t in theatrical productions under the guidance of professional directors. West Valley Light Opera is fortunate to have secured the services of Mr. Sherwood Goozee as Director. His picture and past accomphshments appear elsewhere in the program. I t was under his skillful direction that our first show of this se£ison, "OHver", was produced. We sincerely hope that you enjoy our shows. Should you feel inclined to become a member, our representative will be happy to explain the advantages of membership.
THE OVERTURES One unique feature of this Association for players is that we operate the entire year. To accomphsh this, a group was formed from among our membership. This group is called T H E OVERTURES. They consist of six males and six female singers, two pianists, a Director-Choreographer and a Lighting Director. The OVERTURES provide a training ground for stage presence and experience to newcomers to our group, a pool of talents for our productions, and maintain interest on the par t of our players between shows. They are available at reasonable rates to perform for business, civic and fraternal orgemizations. For information please write to the Association or telephone 243-6353 or 356-6410.

JOHN P. POWERS Mr. Powers attended Long Island
University on an athletic scholarship (baseball and basketball) where he participated in college Drama group activities. He had a major singing role in Guy Lombardo's "Night in Venice" in New York. Following college John played professional baseball for four years w i t h the Boston Red Sox. While i n the armed forces he received a diploma from Tala Birrell's School for Directing, in Paris, France. He played piano and did vocals for his own trio for six years, appearing in New York, Philadelphia and Baltimore, where he played at Brooks Robinson's Key Club. He has also directed a Pantomime group in New York. His most recent appearance was in "Mademoiselle Colombe" at the Mon-talvo Carriage House.
GRACE SOTO Miss Soto is a San Jose lass who loves
the theatre. After the usual children's plays, she first appeared in the chorus of "Finian's Rainbow." She next played the part of Ella Peterson in "Bells are Ringing," and she has earned the same part in West Valley Light Opera's production of that show. Impressed by her talent, Grace was awarded a scholarship at San Jose State College's summer session. She intends to make the stage her career, and we w i l l watch her future w i t h interest.
