OUR POSITION

WHAT IS WORLDSKILLS?

WorldSkills is the global hub for skills development and excellence. Through International cooperation and development between industry, government, organizations, and institutions, we promote the benefits and need for skilled professionals through grass-roots community projects, skill competitions, and knowledge exchange.

We show how important skills education and training is for youth, industries, and society by challenging young professionals around the world to become the best in the skill of their choice.

We connect WorldSkills Members, Global Partners, governments, regional, continental, international organizations, educational institutions, and NGO partners to help create and facilitate initiatives for sustainable skills development for youth in Africa and the future establishment of WorldSkills Africa, which is a continental platform that will sit within the African Union to support and facilitate skills development initiatives with WorldSkills network.

Why skills competition

Together with Festo, African Union, and the Ministry of Education of the Republic of Rwanda, WorldSkills Africa Kigali will be held in Kigali from 20 to 23 Nov 2018.

Followed by the East Africa Regional Competition led by Festo in 2016, this is the second time that a high-quality skills competition will take place in the continent, which would help us shape the foundation for developing future competitions on the continental level.

Skills development in Africa has been an important agenda within WorldSkills and a key focus to engage our Global Partners and stakeholders. A project like this is a significant step to start developing a more sustainable way to attract young people to pursue vocational education and training in Africa. It is also efficient model for policy makers and organizations who would like to explore how skills competition could enhance their work in skills development.
