On 23 August, as the Swedish summer slowly transforms into early autumn, we will open the doors to this year’s World Water Week, themed “Water for Development”. In this year of major decisions regarding sustainable develop-ment and the path the UN and its member states will take, it is important that we take a step back and reflect upon water and its central role in development. Water is not only the condition for life, but also central to economic and social development, and a prerequisite for healthy ecosystems. We need to talk – about how to manage water, and how to finance it, today and in the decades to come. Financing for Development, a process run-ning alongside the negotiations about Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and a new climate deal, is as important as the Post-2015 Development Framework itself. Without money, no implementation. Not of a water goal, nor of any other goals. We need to bring these perspectives into our discussions at World Water Week, and I am certain we will. We have an im-pressive programme with events covering topics such as develop- ment financing, the SDGs, integrity, gender, climate change, energy and sanitation. All events this year will be held in a new format: 90-minute sessions spread evenly throughout the day instead of three-hour seminars and shorter side-events. Please browse the following

pages for more details and inspiration. And, we have some more news that we are very proud of: as of this year we are moving the Week (back) into central Stockholm, close to the city’s quays and waterways and only a stone’s throw away from City Hall, where this year’s Stockholm Water Prize laureate, Shri Rajendra Singh, also known as the water man of India, will be honoured at a Royal Banquet on 26 August. This year is a milestone for us at SIWI. It is the 25th World Water Week, although it began as Stockholm Water Symposium in 1991. It is also the 25th time that we honour an outstanding contribution to water by awarding Stockholm Water Prize. We hope that you will come to Stockholm to discuss, be inspired and celebrate with us. It is time to register for the 25th World Water Week!

A festival-feel this jubilee year! This year is the 25th anniversary of Stockholm Water Prize and World Water Week! To celebrate, the Week will be extra festive with fun and informative events such as art shows, experiments, games and mini-seminars taking place in the lively exhibition area. The exhibition will be open to the general public, including school classes who will be invited to join the fun and learn about water. Also new this year is the SIWI Sofa. Located in the exhibition area, the sofa will be a cross between a speakers’ corner and an outdoor studio, where journalists can conduct interviews and facilitate discussions between experts on a variety of water-

related issues. Expected interviewees include high-level speakers, representatives from water and development organizations, the private sector and, of course, SIWI. Targeting a broader range of decision-makers and interested public, as well as World Water Week participants, segments will focus on hot topics of the Week and highlights, interdisciplinary collaboration, knowledge sharing, and on creating a deeper un-derstanding of key water issues. They will also be recorded (video or podcast) and promoted through various online channels.
