WEDNESDAY MORNING ROUNDUP

Jo-Jacks 12, S&C Tribe 8– In an inter-

league game with first place consequences for both teams, Jo-Jacks jumped out to a 5-0 lead in the top of the first on walks to Bryan Buck, Frank Cilona, and Rick Arnholt, a Bob Lung double, and singles by Josh Na-thanson and Eric Walsky. Trailing 6-5 heading to the top of the fourth, Jo-Jacks scored two runs without the benefit of a base hit and plated three more runs in the fifth with a two-out bases empty rally featuring a two-run Arnholt double and another RBI-single by Walsky to take a 10-6 lead. Ed Cosentino singled to lead off the seventh inning. After Buck reached on a fielder’s choice and Lung singled, Nathanson smacked a clutch double to score Buck. Cilona followed with a sacrifice fly to make it 12-6. Walsky, the veteran right-hander, settled into a grove in the middle innings en route to a complete game victory. S&C Tribe battled back from the early 5-0 defi-cit with two runs in the second on singles by Brian Woodard and Aaron Morgan, and walks to George Soos and Jack Morgan, and four runs in the third with the big blow coming off the bat of Morgan, who ripped a two-run double after Soos singled, and Doug Smith, Chris Moore, Jim Batzel, and Woodard walked.

Da Boyz 9, Buffaloheads 8— With the

bases loaded in the bottom of the first, Trevor Durkalski drilled a bases-clearing double to give Da Boyz a 4-1 lead. Paul Ciccero singled and Matt Cole doubled to open the third. Greg DePace drilled a triple to drive them home to extend Da Boyz lead 6-1. With one out in the fourth, John Bordonaro singled and Mike Pressnell doubled. Bud Baeslack’s RBI-grounder made it 7-1. In a reversal of fortune, Da Boyz trailed 8-7 heading to the bottom of the seventh. Bordonaro and Baeslack drew walks and Pressnell singled. Frank Durkalski’s RBI-walk then tied the game 8-8. After the next two batters were retired, Matt Cole hit a clutch hard single to center field that scored Baeslack for the walk-off victory. Court Durkalski went the distance and did not allow a run in five of his seven innings of work. Brett Wilhelm singled and scored on a bases loaded walk to Jeremy Bilsky in the top of the first for Buffaloheads, who were held scoreless until the sixth when they erupted for seven runs on singles by Wilhelm, Scooter Bilsky, Matt Underwood, Todd Silverman, and Brian Roberson, and walks to Ken James, Brent Hanks, and Jim Bitgood before Jon Waler blasted a two-run tri-ple to take the lead 8-7.

Snowbirds 6, Desert Dogs 2— Terry

Daniel doubled to open the game for Snowbirds and then scored on Jeff Smith’s one-out single. David Shipps hit a home run in the second to make it 2-0. Mark Shipps doubled to lead off the third, but did not score. In the fourth, John Ginty doubled home Josh Sorge, who had singled with one out for a 3-0 lead. In the sixth, Josh Polster and Sorge each singled and Ginty then stroked his second double. Joel Campbell’s RBI-grounder made it 6-0. Ginty, the veteran right-hander, threw a shutout over the first six innings and was effec-tive with his fastball, curveball, change-up mix in allow-ing just five hits to notch a complete game victory. The defensive highlight was a Jeff Smith to Curt Reiff dou-ble play that stopped a rally in the bottom of the fourth. Rick Parsons doubled to open the home half of the seventh for Desert Dogs’ only extra base hit. Fol-lowing a walk to Greg VanValkenburgh, Chad Bryant hit a line drive RBI-single past a diving shortstop to get his team on the board. Ted Lesiak then walked to load the bases for Tim Zelenak, who plated VanValkenburgh with a fielder’s choice grounder. Bryant went the dis-tance and had good control in yielding just one walk.

Lefty Style 8, Southwestern Tribe 5— Locked up in a scoreless battle through three in-

nings, Frank Maire walked and Brian Gongaware sin-gled to open the top of the Lefty Style fourth. With one out, Bill Maire walked to load the bases for David Wil-len, who smacked an RBI-grounder for a 1-0 lead. Vic Murdock and Maire singled to open the sixth. Gonga-ware, Mike Detering, and Bill Maire each then walked. With one out, Ron Budz walked, Mike Maire singled and Tim Murdock, who smashed a double to right-center in the second, drew his second walk of the game. Don Seager then slapped an RBI-single for the sixth run of the inning. Seth Willen walked and scored in the sev-enth for Lefty Style’s final tally. Gongaware struck out twelve and did not allow a walk in going the distance for the victory. Southwestern Tribe scored five runs in the bot-tom of the seventh on a Willie Geiser triple and singles by Ken Seelie, Nate Segall, Bill Schubert, David Az-zolina, Ken Kramer, and Steve Sutker. Segall and Chris Schubert clicked on a 4-3 double play to end a threat in the top of the second. Seelie made two nice plays at short in the third to stop a rally. In the fourth, Azzolina made a nice catch in center to limit further scoring. He also pitched well in an inning and two-thirds of relief.

WEDNESDAY AFTERNOON ROUNDUP

Snowbirds 5, Southwestern Tribe 4

- Josh Polster walked with one out in the home half of

the first to get things started for Snowbirds. Terry Daniel, Jeff Smith, Josh Sorge, and Joel Campbell fol-lowed with consecutive singles that tallied three runs. David Shipps then belted a two-run triple to complete the five-run uprising. That would turn out to be all the runs Shipps needed, as the right-hander had good control over his slider, fastball, and curve in walking just two in his complete game victory effort. He was backed by good defense including center fielder Daniel’s throw to Smith at short, who fired to the plate where John Ginty applied the tag to end the second inning. Josh Polster made a great catch in left in the third to rob a hit. In col-lecting ten base hits, Daniel and Sorge led with two each, and Steve Lab, Shipps, Campbell, Smith, Polster, and Mark Shipps followed with one. Southwestern Tribe scored two runs in the fourth and single tallies in the fifth and sixth to fall just short. Bill Schubert and Steve Sutker led their team with three hits apiece. Willie Geiser’s triple was his team’s only extra base hit. Dave Schubert, Dave Tracy, Chris Schubert, Chad Tracy, and Ken Seelie each had base hits.

Lefty Style 3, Desert Dogs 2— Trailing

1-0, leadoff batter Seth Willen walked to get things started for Lefty Style in the bottom of the first. Follow-ing singles by Vic Murdock and Frank Maire, Brian Gongaware and Mike Detering had RBI-fielder’s choice grounders to take the lead 2-1. Hits were hard to come by in what turned out to be an extra-innings pitcher’s duel between two rookie right-handers. In stroking seven base hits, Vic Murdock was the only Lefty Style batter to collect two. Tied 2-2 heading to the home half of the eighth, Ron Budz and Mike Maire each singled to open the frame. Tim Murdock followed by nailing a single that drove home Budz with the walk-off game-winner. Frank Maire dominated in striking out nine and walking just two to gain the complete game victory. Rick Parsons and Chad Bryant each singled in the top of the Desert Dogs first. With one out, Ted Le-siak singled to drive in Parsons for the early 1-0 lead. With one out in the third, Maury Bell drove a pitch to the left centerfield gap for a double. He later scored on an RBI-fielder’s choice grounder off the bat of Greg VanValkenburgh to tie the game 2-2. Using his slider, fastball, curve and change, Lesiak struck out five and walked just one in a commanding pitching performance.

Buffaloheads 6, S&C Tribe 5—In the

Heroes League regular season finale that would decide first place, rookie Brian Roberson took the hill for Buf-faloheads to face S&C Tribe’s playoff-tested veteran Jim Batzel, in a duel between two right-handers who would each toss a complete game. Trailing 1-0 in the bottom of the second, Brent Hanks doubled. With two outs Roberson doubled him home to tie the game 1-1. Hanks again doubled to lead off the fourth. Todd Silverman followed with a single and Jeremy Bilsky reached on a fielder’s choice grounder that drove in Hanks. Roberson again doubled to drive in the speedy Bilsky. Cody Westmoreland advanced the runner with a grounder and Jon Waler’s RBI-single made it 4-1. Trail-ing 5-4 in the bottom of the seventh, Hanks, Silverman, and Bilsky singled to load the bases for Roberson, who then clubbed his third consecutive double to drive in two runs to win the walk-off thriller. S&C Tribe struck for four runs in the top of the seventh to take a 5-4 lead on Aaron Morgan’s triple, a Brian Woodard double, and singles by George Soos, Will Soos, Erica Dobie, and Doug Smith. Batzel had excellent command allowing no walks in his complete game effort.

Da Boyz 16, Jo-Jacks 5—Taking advan-

tage of the nine walks allowed over the first two innings and Bud Baeslack’s bases-loaded triple, the visiting Da Boyz took a 13-1 lead and never looked back. In adding two runs in the fourth and one in the seventh, rookie right-hander Trevor Durkalski showed a good fastball and was able to relax in cruising his way to a complete game victory. Battery-mate Court Durkalski had four hits to lead his team. Paul Ciccero and Matt Cole fol-lowed with two hits each. Greg DePace, Dick Harkness, John Bordonaro, Mike Pressnell, and Trevor Durkalski each singled to round out the fourteen-hit attack. Bor-donaro led his team with three RBI, while Trevor Dur-kalski, Harkness, Court Durkalski, and Pressnell each had two. With an eye towards post-season play, Jo-Jacks played steady despite the large early deficit. Bob Lung had two hits, including an RBI-triple for his team’s only extra-base hit. Marc Gutin also had two hits, while Ed Cosentino, Dick Molder, Eric Walsky, Rick Arnholt, and Josh Nathanson chipped in with one hit apiece. Heather Millar played well in right field and Arnholt was effective in his six innings of relief work. Jo-Jacks advances to the LLCS as the Wild Card winner.
