Introduction World Para Swimming, under the governance of the International Paralympic Committee, acts as the international federation for the sport and is based in Bonn, Germany.

Para swimming is practised internationally by athletes in around 100 countries and has featured in every edition of the Paralympic Games, growing into one of the biggest and most attractive sports. There is a major championship held every year, either World Championships or European Championships, in alternating years. Local Organising Committees work directly with World Para Swimming to ensure the best possible Championships are offered.

The purpose of the Host Expression of Interest Application is to initiate the bidding process for the 2022 European Championships, 2023 World Championships and 2024 European Open Championships. By securing all the major championships host for the next Paralympic quadrennial early this will enable more time for host to plan, approach sponsors for funding and to promote the event, to ensure the Championships will be a success. By completing this application your organisation will have expressed their formal interest to participate in the bid application process. The application requires your organisation to provide general information necessary for World Para Swimming:

• to create a single register of applicant organisations, thus ensuring a transparent exchange of information between the parties;

• to capture comparable information and data required to assess the initial feasibility of the potential bid applicant to meet the requirements; and

• to assess the preliminary guarantees identifying the level of support given by the various partners.

Benefits of hosting 2.1 Some benefits for the host nation:

• The Championships draws over a thousand people (athletes, team officials, and fan) into the city, therefore it is an excellent opportunity to promote not only the host city but also the country.

• Hosting a premier Para Sport event of this size bring accessibility to the foreground, not only for the venue but for the city as well.

• The Championships are a perfect opportunity to create a legacy. Through initiatives like talent ID camps hosting the Championships can have a lasting effect on development of young athletes and the future of the sport in the host country.

• Capitalising on the Championships, nations can also improve their para swimming national technical official pool.

2.2 Digital Statistic Fast Facts

European Championships- There were 400,000 livestream views on Facebook alone, totalling over 42 thousand engagements across social media, with posts having been seen by more than 1.4 million times. In addition, the events website pages had more than 635,000 page views. World Championships- In the more than 500 hours of TV broadcast and livestreaming broadcast time from the Championships there was a 143.25 million cumulative audience resulting in over 1,3 million event marketing Impressions. On the Social media side there was over 900,000 engagement across all social media platforms, with posts have been seen more than 1.8 million times.

3.3.1 Training Venues

The LOC must provide two (2) training pools (one of them can be the competition pool):

Next Steps The first step is putting together a bid application, which includes information such as when and where the proposed competition will take place, a brief description of the host city, a proposed budget and possible accommodations.

Then, after the deadline, World Para Swimming will review the applications. In case there are follow up questions, World Para Swimming will follow up with the LOCs. If the bid is accepted contract talks will follow, which include a detailed schedule of work. Once all parties are in agreement the contract is signed and the Championships planning will begin. The aim is to finalise all these steps and announce the championships by the end of 2020/early 2021. World Para Swimming is there every step of the way to help the Organising Committee.

Accommodation and Transport Accommodation facilities and services must be equivalent to a minimum of a 3-star European standard, wheelchair accessible and generally suitable for people with impairment. NPC Teams cover for their own accommodation costs. The Championships Officials, IPC Guests and the media must be accommodated in a separate location/area from that of athletes and NPC team officials. Media representatives cover for their own accommodation.

PROPOSED BUDGET The approximate cost of hosting a World Para Swimming Championships is approximately €1.200.000 – 1.500.000. World Para Swimming will financially contribute to the success of the Championships, as well as provide technology support. Example of some possible cost breakdown: Revenue Areas: Ticket sales, sponsorship & advertising, merchandising, and funding, etc. Expenditure areas: LOC co-ordination, sport presentation, IT & telecommunications, venue cost, medical services, ceremonies, transport, etc.
