Class RG Prayer Service

Thank you to Mrs Gill and Class RG for leading our prayer

service this week. This was their very first Prayer Service

and they were amazing! They gave us a very important

message. They told us all about St David and why he was

such a special man. Some of the children explained that

they were named after saints. They said that a ‘ Saint was

someone who listened to God and led a good life..” Finally

they gave us all the opportunity to reflect on our Lenten

journey. The children spoke so clearly and sang beautifully.

We are all extremely proud of them all.

World Book Day

Thank you to Miss Coy for organizing our World Book Day. It was wonderful to see the children and

some of the teaching staff really embracing this opportunity. World Book Day is a celebration! It’s a

celebration of authors, illustrators, books and (most importantly) it’s a celebration of reading. In fact,

it’s the biggest celebration of its kind, designated by UNESCO as a worldwide celebration of books and

reading, and marked in over 100 countries all over the world.

Railway Network assemblies

On Monday the KS2 children learnt about the importance of safety on the railways when we were visited by Rail Enforce-

ment Officers from Great Northern Railway. They spoke to the children about how to safely travel on trains, what to do if

they need help and who to go to.

The children, as always, were a credit to St. Catherine’s: listening attentively, giving well thought out answers and asking

relevant questions. Our visitors commented on how well behaved our children were and how impressed they were with

the responses given to questions. The children were invited to colour/design a train for a competition where the first prize

is £30 worth of vouchers. The entries will be displayed at New Barnet station for a short while.

World Book Day Continued… Activities during the day!

Some of our children celebrated World Book Day by cuddling up with a

good book dressed in their pyjamas or onesies! They shared the books

they had chosen to bring in from home and produced a new front cover

for their favourite book.

Our Lenten Journey

At St Catherine’s we have set up spiritual stations around the

school to help us reflect on our journey through Lent. The chil-

dren have really enjoyed finding the stations and spending

some time in reflection looking at the reading, the painting and

the artefacts. Here are two more stations.

see so many of our parents were able to attend. It was extremely informative giving parents strategies to help their child

read at home and inspire a love of reading.

how you can help at home? 100% very helpful/ helpful

sion? 100% very helpful/ helpful

Please share the ‘Wednesday Word’ at home. In this coming Sunday’s Gospel we hear about Jesus. Gospel Mark 9:2-10 23 During his stay in Jerusalem for the feast of the Passover many believed in his name when they saw the signs that he did, 24 but Jesus knew all people and did not trust himself to them; 25 he never needed evidence about anyone; he could tell what someone had within. Science Week

The week beginning 12th March is Science Week and we are planning lots of exciting activities in school. A huge thank you

to the parents and extended family members who have volunteered their time to come and work with the classes to give

them an insight into scientific careers and to lead workshops.

Don’t forget that the children are invited to come to school on Monday 12th

March dressed in clothes of a scientific theme. Please see the leaflet that was

emailed to you and is also attached the to the newsletter email for more ideas.

School Council

The School Council met on Monday and we spoke about the very important role they played in ensuring the voice of all the children at St Catherine’s is heard. Every class also has a concern and suggestion box in their class room . Before our school council meeting we can gather up the suggestions and discuss the ideas submitted that would be worth taking for-ward. We will share our findings on our School Council Web page.

Rights Respecting Schools

The Rights Respecting Steering Group met this week to discuss our

journey so far and our aim to be awarded Level 2 this academic year.

We also ensured all classrooms had their new Article of the Month

and Thought for the Month on display.
