     The diabetes epidemic is rapidly

    increasing in many countries, with thedocumented increase most dramatic inlow- and middle-income countries.Diabetes is a chronic, metabolic

    disease characterized by elevatedlevels of blood glucose which may overtime lead to serious damage to theheart, blood vessels, eyes, kidneys,and nerves. The main goals of WorldHealth Day !"# are to increaseawareness about rise in diabetes and

    its staggering burden $ conse%uences.

    staggering burden and conseuences

    tackle diabetes# !hese will include steps to prevent

    diabetes and diagnose, treat and care "or people with

    diabetes#

    • $aunch the "irst WHO %lobal report on diabetes, which will

    describe the burden and conseuences o" diabetes and

    advocate "or stronger health systems to ensure improved
